It's a very small development team and the original sai is built off of code that is antiquated but the new sai developer software has a similar feel but is modernized so it may be possible that things change in the future! But I agree csp on iPad made me switch to csp because it's so good and uncompromised!
I'm so happy you said it was like using your wacom cintiq 16, because that's exactly what I'm looking for! I do my main painting and drawing on my wacom cintiq, but I also wanted something small and portable for on the go, because I take my laptop nearly everywhere with me. I'm totally going to try this out~
Thank you for the comment! I have been in a similar situation for many years now, working on a cintiq at home and an iPad on the go. Depending on the app and work I will often work on the iPad at home as well. There are of course differences, with the wacom screen/pen having a more natural feel and with more custom buttons but I think many could use an iPad as an alternative!
OMG... Works on my iPad Pro 2021! Thank you so so so so much! My Cintiq had broken and I thought an iPad would be a better replacement, but I struggled with how different the apps felt. SAI is just so different and imo the best drawing app. It's just so buttery smooth. No app I've tried felt the same. Medibang came close tho. I'm broke, but was literally about to purchase a Huion right now just because of how I missed SAI. As extra and unadaptable I sound, I feel like SAI made my drawings look better lol but that's probs because I just enjoyed SAI so much. I'm so glad I found this. Thank you!

Although I have mostly (happily) compromised with Clipstudio Paint which offers a very similar and in many ways more powerful experience I do go back to SAI often using this method and I'm so glad I could help others do the same!
I 100% agree. Coming from sai to clip was a lil hard. Clip is nice but too many features makes it not good. Grabbed an iPad for Procreate cuz I can't afford Wacom mobile suit to continue with Clip. I am not happy with Procreate so now I'm on a clip subscription just for my iPad :( . I have to buy Sai

Thank you for the comment! There are a few apps that can help connect an iPad to a windows computer with various levels of functionality. It doesn't always work perfectly and has been frustrating to use in the past, usually from lag or inaccurate inputs but this looks promising! i really hope this would work. i been using paint tool sai for 8 years but because of technical problem with my pc and my intuos tablet finally gave in after 10+ years I had to buy smtg that could compensate my laptop and my pentablet. Procreate is nice but I really miss SAI. Been trying to find the way to make my ipad as extension after I fix my laptop but no luck so far.
Hello and thank you for the comment! I was also a long time sai user that compromised with other apps on the iPad. This method should work, and there is also astropad for windows and duet display but you will need to download the sai developer version for any of these methods to have pen pressure. I hope it works for you, and if t doesn’t fit well I would recommend trying Artstudio pro, Paintstorm or clip studio paint on iPad! All of them have a little bit of the sai feeling and clip studio has now been my preferred drawing software for 5 years or so!

Hello and thank you for the comment! The other apps I know of would be duet display and astropad. I believe they offer the pinch to zoom but are pretty expensive or a subscription. Easycanvas does offer shortcuts and you could add zoom in and out to be a a simple button press or maybe make a shortcut that involves the apple pencil for zooming. I hope that helps! Thank you.
Well, I got it to work with pressure sensitivity but every time I pick up my Apple Pencil it leaves a big blot where I picked it up, even if I used lighter pressure as a was drawing. When I pick it up it seems to default to the size it’s on as I pick up the pencil. Any way to fix this?
Hmmm thats an interesting issue, I have not experienced it but maybe uninstalling and re-installing on both your iPad and computer may help? Yeah not quite a surface but I think sai isn't really built like clipstudio for gestures and all so either way a keyboard is necessary for my needs. There might be a wireless option but regardless you need a computer with you 😂 I have some ideas though!! Gotta test stuff out 👍 ahh tha m you I have a lot of fun doing this kind of tinkering especially when there's a good result!
Hello and thank you for the comments. I have gotten a lot of comments from users that the pen pressure or other aspects of the program not working. I recommend making sure you have the newest wintab drivers and restarting your computer. Many comments say that after shutting down and restating things work properly. Hope that helps thank you!
Last time I checked the did not, easycanvas has a few shortcut buttons and you can add zoom in/out. Also paint tool sai doesn't have any touch gestures to my knowledge... Clip studio and Photoshop might be able to take advantage of touch gestures. Easycanvas does offer a free trial so you can test out your workflow! I hope that helps! Hello and thank you for the question. I have used desktop Photoshop with easycanvas and it works great! Just like paint tool sai. Sometimes you have to adjust settings but in general it's great!
tsukepen Thank You so much!!! I had already purchased the App Duet Display and the app was already paid for and it was not possible to draw on Photoshop only if we bought another package of a few dollars a year more !!! So now I'm afraid to invest in this App!
I also have duet display and the yearly subscription should also work with photoshop and has unique features. Another app like this for Macs is astropad which has its own features. Easycanvas also has a free trial period before you have to pay to test out your programs!
Hello and thank you for the question! I believe this has more to do with the frame rate I film at and the refresh rate of old iPad screens. The delay looks significant but in practice and to the eye it is snappier than other apps I have used. A lot of these mirroring apps use an extended tail function on strokes which helps things look smooth but in general I found no issues when drawing and painting using easycanvas. Hope that helps! Easycanvas does have a free trial if you are interested in testing it out yourself.
Thanks so much for this, I managed to get most of it set up but my apple pencil is completely off by a few inches on the ipad now? I've troubleshooted all the scaling stuff so I'm not sure what's up with it.
Hello and thank you for the question. It could be the driver's you are running. Maybe try installing the latest wintab drivers. Is it happening only on your software or the actual operating system? Hello and thank you for the comment! Any iPad should work as long as the OS is new enough to download easycanvas. It's a pretty light software so I don't think you should have any issues but there is a free trial to test out both the iPad and whatever programs you want to use on PC. As far as the desktop software mirroring shouldn't be an issue, the only thing I could see is if you have special mouse functions that can't be replicated with the apple pencil. If not it generally acts like a tablet connected to your PC. Also any accessories like keyboards need to be attached to the PC when mirroring. Hope that helps! Haha well I use both the 9.7 pro and mini 5 but it's a surprisingly nice combination if you have a small and light Ultrabook and the mini 5. Sai can run on just about anything haha the screen is smaller but I do end up doing this outside of my office because it's so easy to take with me all I need is a lightning cable and my usual everyday carry
Each time I make a stroke on Paint Tool Sai 2 with my iPad, the end of the brush stroke keeps giving me a hard round edge instead of a sharp one, do you know how to fix it?
Hello and thank you for the comment. Hmm thats an interesting problem you have... It could be the pen drivers on your computer. Updating or reinstalling could help. Are you using the Windows API (for windows vista or later) setting on PTS2? I would also recommend uninstalling the EasyCanvas software on both iPad and computer and reinstalling to see if the situation improves. If not I would contact the EasyCanvas developers, they have always been very helpful in the past. I hope that helps!
@@tsukepen No, I actually have it set it on WinTab with Ver.1 compatible method as well as using an iPad pro with apple pen, I installed Easy Canvas with the free trial, the pressure settings weren't appealing with Paint Tool Sai 1 and Krita as well when I tested it to see if it was just Paint Tool Sai's 2 pressure settings For Krita, it wouldn't allow me to make an instant stroke after each one I mad, I had to wait 5 seconds or more to paint another stroke. Paint Tool Sai 1's wasn't working with me as well, it kept giving me hard round edges when I finished following each pressure settings tutorial
So I know for a fact paint tool Sai 1 does not work with these kinds of mirroring apps and krita also has lots of issues. On paint tool Sai 2 switch from wintab to windows API and then you will have to quit out of paint tool Sai and re-open it. This should give you more accurate pen pressure. For whatever reason the only setting that works in paint tool Sai 2 is the windows API setting. Unfortunately I haven't found a fix for Krita.

I downloaded it however I'm using an apple pencil alternative and it doesn't work. I also tried the finger option but I can move anything in the pc screen except for the menu items in the app. Can you please help?

Hi, I own an ipad pro 9.7 (1st gen, bought just because I saw this video!) and I have some question just for clarification! Is this portable in the sense that I can leave my house so I can draw out at a park/cafe or whatever? There doesn't seem to be any 100% portable art tablets out at the moment and I desperately want to leave my house and draw without having to outright buy a laptop and lug everything everywhere >.< If it is portable is it REQUIRED that I leave my pc on so it can continue mirroring? I'm so excited to finally start being able to do digital art outside my home, but I don't want to keep an ipad if I specifically bought it for the sole purpose to do art >_

Any kind of mirroring app (duet display, astropad, easycanvas etc) wireless or wired will need a PC fairly close to the ipad to work. Unfortunately what you are looking for is more of a remote PC functionality but as far as I know there isnt a great drawing related remote PC solution for iPads at the moment. What you can do is use a mini laptop like some I have reviewed on the channel (ruclips.net/video/Dvy_G_UT5Kg/видео.html) as paint tool sai should run fairly well on any modern PC. If you are willing to try other software the iPad pro 9.7 is still a very portable and powerful creative tool that I still use today. Clipstudio paint is my favorite alternative to paint tool sai and it runs very smoothly on your iPad. Proceate, artstudio pro and many more apps that run natively on iPad are often capable of making great work, with a little time and practice of course. I have made various videos on this channel about iPad drawing apps so you might want to take a look around! If you are determined to use paint tool sai, a windows based tablet PC like a surface device might be the most portable way to do so. I still on occasion use the surface go 2 and paint tool sai on the go. The pen is not as accurate as the apple pencil but it is ok, and apparently the surface pro 8 has an updated pen that may be more accurate. Also, the surface X may not be compatible with paint tool sai 2 im not sure, if that is a model that you would look at please do some follow up research. Also most modern windows tablet PCs will not get pen pressure on paint tool sai 1, so you will need the developer version or paint tool sai 2. Lastly, I used the wacom cintiq companion or mobile studio for quite some time and although it is fairly large it can still be used outside of the house with some fantastic results!

As far as paint tool Sai, I wouldn't hold out too much hope for an iPadOS port as the software has been Windows exclusive since it's release and progress is slower than a larger corporate app... Clip studio paint has a lot of resources online and a large community of former sai users that have replicated brushes etc. Art studio pro also reminds me a lot of sai! Hello and thank you for the question. There are a few ways to wirelessly mirror your PC to your iPad. Astro pads project blue, duet display premium and easycanvas pro all offer wireless capabilities. With settings similar to in this video you should be able to get pen pressure working on paint tool Sai, but you need the developer version or "paint tool Sai 2".
I think there might be a misunderstanding from your previous comment. At the moment there isn't a great way to run paint tool Sai on an iPad, using only an iPad. There are remote desktop apps but they can have lag and may not allow for pen pressure. If you were asking about wirelessly accessing paint tool Sai that's running on another computer then easycanvas pro, duet display and asteopad offer various options for this. Hello! Thank you for the comment. For this to work you are going to need to use the paint tool sai developer software available on their website. It is often called sai2 and has many improvements over the original to make it more modern. You can import your brushes and it works very similarly to the original program. I hope that helps!
As far as I know there is no way to have Paint Tool Sai loaded directly onto an iPad. The developers would need to make a version specific for iOS and as it has been exclusively a windows app from the start I wouldnt get my homes up. There are alternatives on iPad though like artstudio pro, procreate and clip studio paint. I hope that helps!

Let me ask you, are you using sai 1 or sai 2(aka developer version)? I believe the original sai does not have many options but sai 2 has several options for pen pressure settings. If you are using sai 2 maybe uninstalling and reinstalling the latest build could help. Hope that works! Thank you!

Thank you very much! Easycanvas is available only on Android and iOS for drawing, and pc and Mac for the mirroring. So the surface can only be used as the computer and still needs another tablet for drawing. For a surface device you will have to find a remote way to use your current computer, preferably wired. Easycanvas is wired only but easycanvas pro has wireless capabilities!

EasyCanvas and other mirroring software doesn’t work with sai 1 nicely, it’s just an old app and doesn’t have great compatibility with modern drivers. If you go to the official sai website there is an option to download a developer version which is often called sai 2. @@tsukepen Update: Pen pressure works now! This morning I logged onto my PC and got a barrage of notifications about devices being connected. I decided to test this again after that and now the pen pressure works! Not sure what happened there maybe it was an issue with my computer not syncing with the devices, but I'm happy to get to test sai with ipad!
Hello and thanks for the question! I think just about any lightning cable should work but for easycanvas I use apples official usb A to lightning as well as apples official usb C to lighting cables. If you have a more recent iPad pro 11 or 12.9 inch then i'm sure any usb A to usb C or usb C to C cable will work. I hope that helps let me know if you have any other questions!
Did you try setting the stabilizer to a setting with s in it (like S-3)? That may be a solution. If not uninstalling and reinstalling easycanvas and sai might help but I am not sure. Let me know if those don't work hopefully we can figure it out!

@@tp2657 It could be a driver issue. Updating wintab could help. I have also heard from many people that simply restarting the computer will help resolve these issues.
I'm trying duet pro right now and aside from the fact that the pen is lagging like crazy, the resolution of the ipad is stuck at 2048x1536 while my main monitor is a 1920x1080, so the ipad image is all blurry and pixelated...Do you have that problem with easy canvas?
Hi thanks for the comment! Duet is pretty laggy but if you use the line lead function it can help. I still find inconsistencies with the stroke weight. For the resolution, on the desktop app there is an option to change the resolution along with the frame rate and quality of connection. Ive changed it to a variety of settings and regardless of what I do the image is not 100% sharp... I have been using easycanvas now and it is very nice. Not much perceivable lag and the image is very clear. Hope that helps! Feel free to comment any time.

Ok thanks for the info, if you have a mac then quicktime might be able to do that. If its for drawing some apps have built in live streaming capabilities. If not then maybe a capture card or usb capture device like elgatos cam link might be able to do it but im not sure. If you have a modern ipad pro the usb c port should help if not it might be difficult. Sorry I dont have the best information I would reach out to elgato to see if they have a solution for you. Hello and thank you for the comment. Unfortunately paint tool Sai 1 is not compatible with software like easycanvas and it doesn't necessarily even play nice with the surface series of tablets. Since it is an older software, modern technology can be hit or miss. Paint tool Sai 2 is free if you have a license for the original software and if is very similar. You can also import your brushes!
Video definitely captures a lot of information that the eye cannot perceive, in my experience easycanvas has been the best of these mirroring apps and feels really snappy and responsive with a wired connection. You could always try it yourself as there is a free trial period to test the app as well as compatibility with the software you use. Hope that helps thank you!
I believe this is a newer function added to the pro version but I have not had much time to test it. I used the shortcuts for zoom in and out or a keyboard/controller. Hope that helps at some point I will take a look at the pro version!

It could be a factor, it's always best to update the operating system and app just to make sure. Even uninstalling and reinstalling. By mirror do you mean your desktop screen doesn't appear on the iPad? In which case try the same for your desktop. For iPads they can be a pain especially on PC, you might have to authorize? the iPad so your pc can recognize it as a device then easycanvas may work properly. So the issue might not be with the software, you might want to look into paring your iPad with your computer! Cheers hope something works
I believe it's something like trust this device? When you plug in the iPad to a pc it should come up as a prompt on the iPad. I'm not sure what to do if it doesn't show up but you should research that it may be what is keeping easycanvas from working. If not you should email their support. They've been very helpful to me when I had questions or problems!
If you go to the easycanvas website (www.easynlight.com/en/easycanvas/) there's a button for the iOS app and it should take you to the app store page for it! Hope that helps!

If you have a license for the original paint tool sai you can transfer it over from here www.systemax.jp/en/license.html and read the section on systemax website "How To Apply Your Software User License of SAI Ver.1 to the technical preview version of SAI Ver.2" in the developer room section.
Unfortunately at the moment it doesn't seem like easycanvas is available for Android... There are some desktop mirroring apps but the performance isn't great. Hopefully in the future there are some apps to do this on Android
To my knowledge there are no ports of paint tool sai, it only runs on windows. On Android there are several ways to mirror your desktop to your tablet and one may let you use pen pressure but I haven't tried it myself. Sorry I dont have much experience with Android tablets but a fellow RUclipsr carritube covers a lot of drawing software for Android and may be able to help you!
Hello and thank you for the comment. You could try adjusting your PC's resolution settings and finding something that looks crisp. Easycanvas also allows you to "zoom into" an area of the screen and you can use the full screen of the iPad with this crop, it may lend a more detailed look to the image.
Easycanvas pro, a wireless option, is available for Android tablets. I have yet to test it but it is on my list of videos to make! If you're android tablet can be used with a stylus it might be a good option!
After using a variety of drawing tablets for many years the iPads are some of the best value for money with an amazing drawing experience! I don't like apples practices with hardware and the app store but the overall experience lately has been good enough for me to recommend them highly for drawing.
For some reason whenever I try to draw it only leaves a grey kind of transparent trail, but doesn’t actually draw and I could only draw using my computer mouse. Any way to fix that?

There are of course differences, with the wacom screen/pen having a more natural feel and with more custom buttons but I think many could use an iPad as an alternative!
OMG... Works on my iPad Pro 2021! Thank you so so so so much! My Cintiq had broken and I thought an iPad would be a better replacement, but I struggled with how different the apps felt. SAI is just so different and imo the best drawing app. It's just so buttery smooth. No app I've tried felt the same. Medibang came close tho. I'm broke, but was literally about to purchase a Huion right now just because of how I missed SAI. As extra and unadaptable I sound, I feel like SAI made my drawings look better lol but that's probs because I just enjoyed SAI so much. I'm so glad I found this. Thank you!
Hello and thank you so much for the comment! SAI is certainly a unique program and in many ways it is the best program for the way I draw! Although I have mostly (happily) compromised with Clipstudio Paint which offers a very similar and in many ways more powerful experience I do go back to SAI often using this method and I'm so glad I could help others do the same!
I 100% agree. Coming from sai to clip was a lil hard. Clip is nice but too many features makes it not good. Grabbed an iPad for Procreate cuz I can't afford Wacom mobile suit to continue with Clip. I am not happy with Procreate so now I'm on a clip subscription just for my iPad :( . I have to buy Sai

It doesn't always work perfectly and has been frustrating to use in the past, usually from lag or inaccurate inputs but this looks promising! i really hope this would work. i been using paint tool sai for 8 years but because of technical problem with my pc and my intuos tablet finally gave in after 10+ years I had to buy smtg that could compensate my laptop and my pentablet. Procreate is nice but I really miss SAI. Been trying to find the way to make my ipad as extension after I fix my laptop but no luck so far.
Hello and thank you for the comment! I was also a long time sai user that compromised with other apps on the iPad. This method should work, and there is also astropad for windows and duet display but you will need to download the sai developer version for any of these methods to have pen pressure. I hope it works for you, and if t doesn’t fit well I would recommend trying Artstudio pro, Paintstorm or clip studio paint on iPad! All of them have a little bit of the sai feeling and clip studio has now been my preferred drawing software for 5 years or so!

Hello and thank you for the comment! The other apps I know of would be duet display and astropad. I believe they offer the pinch to zoom but are pretty expensive or a subscription. Easycanvas does offer shortcuts and you could add zoom in and out to be a a simple button press or maybe make a shortcut that involves the apple pencil for zooming. I hope that helps! Thank you.

Well, I got it to work with pressure sensitivity but every time I pick up my Apple Pencil it leaves a big blot where I picked it up, even if I used lighter pressure as a was drawing. When I pick it up it seems to default to the size it’s on as I pick up the pencil. Any way to fix this?
Hmmm thats an interesting issue, I have not experienced it but maybe uninstalling and re-installing on both your iPad and computer may help? Yeah not quite a surface but I think sai isn't really built like clipstudio for gestures and all so either way a keyboard is necessary for my needs. There might be a wireless option but regardless you need a computer with you 😂 I have some ideas though!! Gotta test stuff out 👍 ahh tha m you I have a lot of fun doing this kind of tinkering especially when there's a good result!

Hello and thank you for the comments. I have gotten a lot of comments from users that the pen pressure or other aspects of the program not working. I recommend making sure you have the newest wintab drivers and restarting your computer. Many comments say that after shutting down and restating things work properly. Hope that helps thank you!

Do touch gestures like zoom and rotating the canvas on SAI work with EasyCanvas?
Last time I checked the did not, easycanvas has a few shortcut buttons and you can add zoom in/out. Also paint tool sai doesn't have any touch gestures to my knowledge... Clip studio and Photoshop might be able to take advantage of touch gestures. Easycanvas does offer a free trial so you can test out your workflow! I hope that helps! I also have duet display and the yearly subscription should also work with photoshop and has unique features. Another app like this for Macs is astropad which has its own features. Easycanvas also has a free trial period before you have to pay to test out your programs!

Hello and thank you for the question! I believe this has more to do with the frame rate I film at and the refresh rate of old iPad screens. The delay looks significant but in practice and to the eye it is snappier than other apps I have used. A lot of these mirroring apps use an extended tail function on strokes which helps things look smooth but in general I found no issues when drawing and painting using easycanvas. Hope that helps! Easycanvas does have a free trial if you are interested in testing it out yourself.
Thanks so much for this, I managed to get most of it set up but my apple pencil is completely off by a few inches on the ipad now? I've troubleshooted all the scaling stuff so I'm not sure what's up with it.
Hello and thank you for the question. It could be the driver's you are running. Maybe try installing the latest wintab drivers. Is it happening only on your software or the actual operating system? Hello and thank you for the comment! Any iPad should work as long as the OS is new enough to download easycanvas. It's a pretty light software so I don't think you should have any issues but there is a free trial to test out both the iPad and whatever programs you want to use on PC. As far as the desktop software mirroring shouldn't be an issue, the only thing I could see is if you have special mouse functions that can't be replicated with the apple pencil. If not it generally acts like a tablet connected to your PC. Also any accessories like keyboards need to be attached to the PC when mirroring. Hope that helps! Haha well I use both the 9.7 pro and mini 5 but it's a surprisingly nice combination if you have a small and light Ultrabook and the mini 5. Sai can run on just about anything haha the screen is smaller but I do end up doing this outside of my office because it's so easy to take with me all I need is a lightning cable and my usual everyday carry

Hello and thank you for the comment. Hmm thats an interesting problem you have... It could be the pen drivers on your computer. Updating or reinstalling could help. Are you using the Windows API (for windows vista or later) setting on PTS2? I would also recommend uninstalling the EasyCanvas software on both iPad and computer and reinstalling to see if the situation improves. If not I would contact the EasyCanvas developers, they have always been very helpful in the past. I hope that helps!
@@tsukepen No, I actually have it set it on WinTab with Ver.1 compatible method as well as using an iPad pro with apple pen, I installed Easy Canvas with the free trial, the pressure settings weren't appealing with Paint Tool Sai 1 and Krita as well when I tested it to see if it was just Paint Tool Sai's 2 pressure settings
For Krita, it wouldn't allow me to make an instant stroke after each one I mad, I had to wait 5 seconds or more to paint another stroke. Paint Tool Sai 1's wasn't working with me as well, it kept giving me hard round edges when I finished following each pressure settings tutorial
So I know for a fact paint tool Sai 1 does not work with these kinds of mirroring apps and krita also has lots of issues. On paint tool Sai 2 switch from wintab to windows API and then you will have to quit out of paint tool Sai and re-open it. This should give you more accurate pen pressure. For whatever reason the only setting that works in paint tool Sai 2 is the windows API setting. Unfortunately I haven't found a fix for Krita.

Hi, I own an ipad pro 9.7 (1st gen, bought just because I saw this video!) and I have some question just for clarification!
Is this portable in the sense that I can leave my house so I can draw out at a park/cafe or whatever? There doesn't seem to be any 100% portable art tablets out at the moment and I desperately want to leave my house and draw without having to outright buy a laptop and lug everything everywhere >.<
If it is portable is it REQUIRED that I leave my pc on so it can continue mirroring?
I'm so excited to finally start being able to do digital art outside my home, but I don't want to keep an ipad if I specifically bought it for the sole purpose to do art >_

Any kind of mirroring app (duet display, astropad, easycanvas etc) wireless or wired will need a PC fairly close to the ipad to work. Unfortunately what you are looking for is more of a remote PC functionality but as far as I know there isnt a great drawing related remote PC solution for iPads at the moment. What you can do is use a mini laptop like some I have reviewed on the channel (ruclips.net/video/Dvy_G_UT5Kg/видео.html) as paint tool sai should run fairly well on any modern PC.
If you are willing to try other software the iPad pro 9.7 is still a very portable and powerful creative tool that I still use today. Clipstudio paint is my favorite alternative to paint tool sai and it runs very smoothly on your iPad. Proceate, artstudio pro and many more apps that run natively on iPad are often capable of making great work, with a little time and practice of course. I have made various videos on this channel about iPad drawing apps so you might want to take a look around!
If you are determined to use paint tool sai, a windows based tablet PC like a surface device might be the most portable way to do so. I still on occasion use the surface go 2 and paint tool sai on the go. The pen is not as accurate as the apple pencil but it is ok, and apparently the surface pro 8 has an updated pen that may be more accurate. Also, the surface X may not be compatible with paint tool sai 2 im not sure, if that is a model that you would look at please do some follow up research. Also most modern windows tablet PCs will not get pen pressure on paint tool sai 1, so you will need the developer version or paint tool sai 2.
Lastly, I used the wacom cintiq companion or mobile studio for quite some time and although it is fairly large it can still be used outside of the house with some fantastic results!

As far as paint tool Sai, I wouldn't hold out too much hope for an iPadOS port as the software has been Windows exclusive since it's release and progress is slower than a larger corporate app... Remote PC technology may have more prospects to finally allow artists to use paint tool Sai on their ipad with no accessories! And please check out the videos! Clip studio paint has a lot of resources online and a large community of former sai users that have replicated brushes etc. Art studio pro also reminds me a lot of sai! With settings similar to in this video you should be able to get pen pressure working on paint tool Sai, but you need the developer version or "paint tool Sai 2".

I think there might be a misunderstanding from your previous comment. At the moment there isn't a great way to run paint tool Sai on an iPad, using only an iPad. There are remote desktop apps but they can have lag and may not allow for pen pressure. If you were asking about wirelessly accessing paint tool Sai that's running on another computer then easycanvas pro, duet display and asteopad offer various options for this. I hope that helps clarify the answer to your original question.

Hello! Thank you for the comment. For this to work you are going to need to use the paint tool sai developer software available on their website. It is often called sai2 and has many improvements over the original to make it more modern. You can import your brushes and it works very similarly to the original program. I hope that helps!

As far as I know there is no way to have Paint Tool Sai loaded directly onto an iPad. The developers would need to make a version specific for iOS and as it has been exclusively a windows app from the start I wouldnt get my homes up. There are alternatives on iPad though like artstudio pro, procreate and clip studio paint. I hope that helps!

Let me ask you, are you using sai 1 or sai 2(aka developer version)? I believe the original sai does not have many options but sai 2 has several options for pen pressure settings. If you are using sai 2 maybe uninstalling and reinstalling the latest build could help. Hope that works! Thank you!

Thank you very much! Easycanvas is available only on Android and iOS for drawing, and pc and Mac for the mirroring. So the surface can only be used as the computer and still needs another tablet for drawing. For a surface device you will have to find a remote way to use your current computer, preferably wired.
Easycanvas is wired only but easycanvas pro has wireless capabilities!
Unfortunately I couldn't get this to work on my Ipad Pro. The pressure sensitivity won't work. Shame I really miss using sai!

EasyCanvas and other mirroring software doesn’t work with sai 1 nicely, it’s just an old app and doesn’t have great compatibility with modern drivers. If you go to the official sai website there is an option to download a developer version which is often called sai 2. There you find options for wintab and other drivers and I explain in the video which one allows for pen pressure. Hope that helps! Thank you.
@@tsukepen Update: Pen pressure works now! This morning I logged onto my PC and got a barrage of notifications about devices being connected. I decided to test this again after that and now the pen pressure works! Not sure what happened there maybe it was an issue with my computer not syncing with the devices, but I'm happy to get to test sai with ipad!

Hello and thanks for the question! I think just about any lightning cable should work but for easycanvas I use apples official usb A to lightning as well as apples official usb C to lighting cables. If you have a more recent iPad pro 11 or 12.9 inch then i'm sure any usb A to usb C or usb C to C cable will work. I hope that helps let me know if you have any other questions!
I switched to tablet pc api and got pressure but at the end of each of my strokes theres a single full pressure dot :( Any solutions?
Did you try setting the stabilizer to a setting with s in it (like S-3)? That may be a solution. If not uninstalling and reinstalling easycanvas and sai might help but I am not sure. Let me know if those don't work hopefully we can figure it out!

I'm trying duet pro right now and aside from the fact that the pen is lagging like crazy, the resolution of the ipad is stuck at 2048x1536 while my main monitor is a 1920x1080, so the ipad image is all blurry and pixelated...Do you have that problem with easy canvas?
Hi thanks for the comment! Duet is pretty laggy but if you use the line lead function it can help. I still find inconsistencies with the stroke weight. For the resolution, on the desktop app there is an option to change the resolution along with the frame rate and quality of connection. Ive changed it to a variety of settings and regardless of what I do the image is not 100% sharp... I have been using easycanvas now and it is very nice. Not much perceivable lag and the image is very clear. Hope that helps! Feel free to comment any time.

Ok thanks for the info, if you have a mac then quicktime might be able to do that. If its for drawing some apps have built in live streaming capabilities. If not then maybe a capture card or usb capture device like elgatos cam link might be able to do it but im not sure. If you have a modern ipad pro the usb c port should help if not it might be difficult. Sorry I dont have the best information I would reach out to elgato to see if they have a solution for you. Since it is an older software, modern technology can be hit or miss. Paint tool Sai 2 is free if you have a license for the original software and if is very similar. You can also import your brushes!

Video definitely captures a lot of information that the eye cannot perceive, in my experience easycanvas has been the best of these mirroring apps and feels really snappy and responsive with a wired connection. I believe this is a newer function added to the pro version but I have not had much time to test it. I used the shortcuts for zoom in and out or a keyboard/controller. Hope that helps at some point I will take a look at the pro version!

Thank you for the question! I used the iPad pro 9.7 inch from years ago in the video. Easycanvas should work with any modern iPad and I frequently use it with the ipad mini 5! I hope that helps please let me know if you have any other questions!

@@pingandblue there are some settings that have to be adjusted and it has to be the developer version aka sai 2 but it is a smooth experience with easycanvas!

@@pingandblue of course! Easycanvas has a free trial to test things out but if you follow my video you should have no issues. Occasionally people say that without a restart of the computer they experience issues so keep that in mind.

It could be a factor, it's always best to update the operating system and app just to make sure. Even uninstalling and reinstalling. By mirror do you mean your desktop screen doesn't appear on the iPad? In which case try the same for your desktop. For iPads they can be a pain especially on PC, you might have to authorize? the iPad so your pc can recognize it as a device then easycanvas may work properly. So the issue might not be with the software, you might want to look into paring your iPad with your computer! Cheers hope something works

I believe it's something like trust this device? When you plug in the iPad to a pc it should come up as a prompt on the iPad. I'm not sure what to do if it doesn't show up but you should research that it may be what is keeping easycanvas from working. If not you should email their support. They've been very helpful to me when I had questions or problems!
I can’t find it in the App Store.
If you go to the easycanvas website (www.easynlight.com/en/easycanvas/) there's a button for the iOS app and it should take you to the app store page for it! Hope that helps!

If you have a license for the original paint tool sai you can transfer it over from here www.systemax.jp/en/license.html and read the section on systemax website "How To Apply Your Software User License of SAI Ver.1 to the technical preview version of SAI Ver.2" in the developer room section.

Unfortunately at the moment it doesn't seem like easycanvas is available for Android... There are some desktop mirroring apps but the performance isn't great. Hopefully in the future there are some apps to do this on Android

Hey do u know how to download paint tool sai for android?
To my knowledge there are no ports of paint tool sai, it only runs on windows. On Android there are several ways to mirror your desktop to your tablet and one may let you use pen pressure but I haven't tried it myself. Sorry I dont have much experience with Android tablets but a fellow RUclipsr carritube covers a lot of drawing software for Android and may be able to help you!

Hello and thank you for the comment. You could try adjusting your PC's resolution settings and finding something that looks crisp. Easycanvas also allows you to "zoom into" an area of the screen and you can use the full screen of the iPad with this crop, it may lend a more detailed look to the image.

Easycanvas pro, a wireless option, is available for Android tablets. I have yet to test it but it is on my list of videos to make! If you're android tablet can be used with a stylus it might be a good option!

After using a variety of drawing tablets for many years the iPads are some of the best value for money with an amazing drawing experience! I don't like apples practices with hardware and the app store but the overall experience lately has been good enough for me to recommend them highly for drawing.

For some reason whenever I try to draw it only leaves a grey kind of transparent trail, but doesn’t actually draw and I could only draw using my computer mouse. Any way to fix that?
Hmmm that's an interesting issue. I would try to uninstall and reinstall the app and companion software and re install. If that doesn't work I would reach out to the developers. They have always been helpful and should be able to help.
