    I'm so happy you're saving this great car and not scrapping it! Looking forward to seeing this project completed and the car back on the road! Also anticipating what you do with some performance modifications as well. I can highly recommend Stainless Works tubular exhaust headers. Headers, high flow cats, some good 2.5" or 3" piping and a pair of Magnaflow mufflers makes the 2V 4.6 liter in these cars sound absolutely amazing! Also, look up Marty Ochs of Mo's Speed Shop outside of Atlanta, Georgia. He's the absolute best tuner of these Panther platform cars.

    I feel your pain Matt, I've been welding up my T4 on the drive the last few weeks and the weather is a big frustration.
    Re the regulator leaking, I've had that in the past so I now remove the bottle each time I finish welding (even if I'm going back in an hour or 2). I've also found that the 60l CO2 bottles last better than the argon/CO2 mix ones and are the same price.
    Anyway, cracking progress, you'll soon be back driving it and the pain will be all worth it.

    If you're getting a new regulator, get one of the adaptors to let you use a proper gas cylinder; the money savings and the time savings are SO worth it.
    I updated my 80's era Clarke welder by doing this and I've never looked back.
    I get my gas from Adams Gas via steel and welding supply shop Austen Knappman. There's a one-off deposit on the cylinder, and after that it's just exchanges for the price of the gas.
    A 6.35 kg cylinder (less than a metre tall) is roughly £32 exchange.

  • @FrankInAShed
    @FrankInAShed 3 месяца назад

    MATT!! You're welding with too much "stick-out" In other words, you need to put the welding torch nozzle really close to the point that you lay a weld to in future. It won't shortcircuit or anything. With the welding torch very close, then dial the welder settings to get a good bead.
    Welding outdoors with that much stickout is going to use all of your gas and make your welds look the way they do. Weld in a wind-free environment with very little (or no) stick-out and suddenly you'll weld like a pro.
    Seriously, when you weld anything; throw a lap-fence-panel / tarp up to enclose the carport you've just made and weld in there. It's painful seeing how much better (and therefore far easier) your welding could be, i promise you'll actually start enjoing welding, no lie.
    😁

    Matt, great effort with your welding, it's great to get stuck in and feel the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself. Can i recommend a tip for you? To save time and money, ditch the gas bottle and buy gasless MIG wire, the gas is in the wire itself. I have a 30 year old Clarke Weld 90 EN MIG welder which i've been using for donkeys years to weld sills, wings, floor pans, iron gates etc and never bothered to attach any gas bottle or regulator, i just bought the gasless wire, they sell it everywhere, i even picked up a few more rolls recently in Lidl of all places for six quid a roll!! Hope you give it a go it's a life saver.? Keep up the great videos, i'm looking forward to you returning to the Classic Mini. Personal Regards Roger .

    I think that would pass inspection in New York and New Jersey. The frame rails aren't rusted, so the car isn't going to fold in half.
    Of course, maybe US states don't have inspections at all anymore.
    When I was a kid, I think NJ inspection was stricter than NY's. NJ didn't allow holes later than a certain size (maybe ½" or 1"?) in non-structural external body panels.
    Of course, most cars were body-on-frame then, like this Crown Vic
    My old '05 Jetta passed inspection in NJ with badly rusted Fenders (wings to you), but they're non-structural. Rust in the unibody would have been a fail.
    Rocker panels? Pass, as long as they're not structural.

It's great to see the Crown Vic getting closer to being back on the road, OK you've had to rebuild lumps of it but hopefully the end is in sight to get her back on the road. At least she's better behaved (so far) compared to the Rover P6. Great work and thanks for sharing.

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 3 месяца назад +1

      I'm not a welding expert but an electrical engineer and I think the only dangerous bit is the mains going into the welder. The output side is very few volts but lots of amps instead, enough to create the almighty arc you want for welding but certainly not enough to kill anyone. So as long as you don't plonk the extension lead that feeds the welder into a puddle you should be safe. Not sure if you could get into trouble with water hitting hot metal and turning into steam that could scald you.

    Your determination is amazing. Most people would’ve just given up. It will be worth it once you get through the MOT and get back behind the wheel.
    I’ve watched a few videos lately where a lot of these get turned into dodge charges in America.

      Cambridge Audio Melomania, great sound very good, very good noise blocking but a bit fussy about charging in their case
