I've said it before, and say it again: massive respect for you Matt! What a rust, almost the same kind of rust my ur quattro had 22 years ago. Sills, A pillars, floor pans etc. Saved the Crown Vic from the scrapyard.
Well done Matt, that was a daunting major repair to attempt. You’ve done a great job, this Crown Victoria will be back to its best very soon I’m sure!😊.
@furiousdriving I have a jump pack very similar to that. I don't think it's a Topdon but it does the job. Very surprising for such a small piece of kit. I DO however have an ODB2 diagnostic kit made by Topdon, so I can definitely vouch for their greatness!
That's significant progress after some solid effort, but I can't help thinking there is more internal rust lurking under the scabby bits of that front chassis member around where you did the repair...
Brilliant job so far matt! just a shame the previous owner bodged it up in the 1st place, then sold it to you......will be great when finished though 🙂
Thé TopDon jump starter is the business ! I’ve had mine for about a year. It’s saved me many a time. I was so pleased with it I bought my son one for his birthday last summer. Very useful when he hasn’t moved his Renault 21 for a couple of weeks.
Well done Sir! you deserve the " Welding Medal of the Month" Keep it going! love to watch your posts you will need a new welder if you carry on at your present strike rate - just remember Christmas is around the corner...
Great work and determination Matt! A lot of hard work done and some to go, but it will be worth it. Looking forward to seeing the Crown Vic at some meet ups and shows next year 😊
So pleased for you Matt, it’s soul destroying to find a fault like this in your pride and joy, so glad your persevering and now that the passenger side is nearly finished look upon it as a glass half full and thus well on the way to being driven again. 10 out of 10.
Weld done Matt. So I guess that's about a good third of the work done. It's been an education for me over the series on this car to see how things can be taken apart and fixed up. It's not only really good to see this on a Crown Vic but how it could be applied to other cars and other items as well. Many thanks for sharing, much appreciate your hard work.
Since you have come this far, with your welding skills and all, don't be worried about repairing whatever body parts you cannot procure for whatever reason.I've been watching your magnifiscent efforts since the begining, sometimes with dispare, when things were going south, but most of the time with satisfaction and joy, because your efforts and perseverance paid off.Being an owner of some classics myself,I know this restoration is gonna take a lot more welding,so,hang in there. And know this,I''ll be watching..Btw,you must have some really friendly neighbors!
Well done Matt for getting this far. I know only too well how much time, effort and sheer determination it takes to do resto work, it looks like it's all coming together nicely! Ps I usually use spot weld drills when drilling through panels for plug welds, seem to go through much easier.
Major result Matt 🎉 big thumbs 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 🆙 only one side of furious sill welding and than………lots of other things to do 😅! But plenty content for the channel!

Hey, you're getting quite good at this fabrication lark Matt, I'm impressed, those repairs look sturdy and neat considering that's not your day job. I like how you sink your teeth in and buckle down to do the necessary. That Crown Vic is going to live a lot longer thanks to you. 👍😎

Nice work, really powering through it now! I'm glad you decided to keep it. I understand the bitter feeling and the want to get rid of it initially, but you'll hopefully have that feeling of accomplishment and like it even more once you have fixed it all yourself! Keep it up! :)
Well done! Certainly a lot of work goes into a job like this. Your progress has been amazing considering the conditions you're working in. I found a garage that would take on replacing the sills on my Amazon, and even they have had the car for over a month now.
It could be an effect of the video and sound compression , but it looked sparkly and sounded like you needed more gas output for a cleaner weld , just a thought for next time .
Looking good Matt, do you not use gas on the welder? Looks like flux core wire. If not grab yourself a hobbyweld bottle of argon/c02 mix and your welding will jump up several notches. Best thing I ever did welding wise. Really enjoying the videos as ever.
@@furiousdriving ok, only reason I asked was I used to get similar looking welds before I changed from flux core. I imagine there's some improvement in using proper regulators with a large bottle but just from a cost point take a look at hobbyweld.
Regarding fenders, why not buy two and ask supplier to kindly chop bottoms off at the styling curve. Save a large volumetric weight. Your welding is certainly better, a few more cars and you will be able to earn a living welding cars for others. Well done.
If you can mig plug rather than continuous weld .Looks neater and quick less distortion .Less weld to finish off then use seam sealer over it .3m panel bond works well as brush sealer as well as bonder but it's expensive .invest in a hole punch and Puch the holes with the panel off the car,an oh get rid of the no gas mig ,they were never up to much
This is a gas MIG, only got the small bottles but they are there. I used plugging along the bottom for that reason I would like a hole punch, so many toys to buy...
@@furiousdriving Good advise above.. I'm also pretty interested in panel bond, though I haven't used it, it seems like a good option for some repairs. Welds look good enough for the most part (hard to get a really pretty weld on sheetmetal, but that's what grinders are for!). It does look like you were not getting enough gas flow on some of the welds, that sort of pitted appearance generally happens for me when I run out of gas or forget to turn on my bottle.

The only issue I had with my mk1 Punto was some kind of current leak somewhere, causing the same start problem that you are having. Had it researched by 2 FIAT main dealers but they couldn't find it. Eventually found out it helped to remove the fuse from the heated rear window! So no heated rear window anymore but that was OK. No more current leakage. Might be worth a try.
