There are 3 rules in flying and they all about you looking cool.
    1. Don’t crash. Nobody looks cool while crashing.
    2. Know your weapon systems. Missing your target and looking cool never go together.
    3. Don’t fly in clouds. How can you look cool if no one can see you?
Sage wisdom from a senior Apache IP. Hopefully they include the terrain following function on the FCR for the AH-64 module. That thing was money!
    Great video Cap!

When I was flying the Apache there was no terrain following function available.
Then again, I flew the Jane's version only.

Dang could you imagine how short the first Star Wars would’ve been if the rebels had this in the first movie? Lololol

    Nice!
    2 things to mention:
    - the big light (red) next to the radar will turn on if the Alt Radar detects ground being to close
if it turns red go Stage 3 and rapidly climb
    - second the Slav Si is only a de-cluttered HUD mode
T it's on so that at low level will only show necessary info
F it's off and will show the normal things

The redirect light turns on if the radar altimeter starts to rapidly lose height. This means that you are either about to hit the ground or a mountain. It also has a bunch of other meanings, but altitude is one of the more important ones.

Thanks. Amazing tutorial. Would like to mention that Chuck revamped his viggen guide for anyone who likes a good manual to go along with the video tutorials and practice.

    Hi Cap.
The radar in the F-5 is good for terrain avoidance.
Take the range down to 5 miles & make sure scanner is level ( right side in middle).
    Give it a try.

    Many thanks for testing, Cap!
It looked very easy until 4:17. Also shows why Tornado or F-111 low flying abilities were quite revolutionary.
I still have and sometimes even fly DI Tornado. With hires graphics it would be still a great sim. Many aspects not as accurate as in DCS but the overall package is still impressing.

Thanks Cap, never quite got good at this, but guess it should mostly be used with a carefully pree planed route.

Nice video! I love the Viggen and it's old school way of doing things. Also, to make "höjd" easier to pronounce, you could say it like "hoid", you can hear a sample at folkets-lexikon(.)csc(.)kth(.)se/folkets/service?word=h%C3%B6jd

I am still struggling with some procedures. E.g. in plan bomb mode with slick bombs (CCRP): does the "trigger unsafe" kind of designate the planned impact point? If you want to attack a target which is not directly under the target waypoint it seems you do a pop-up, put the dot onto the target, trigger unsafe tells the weapons computer that this is the point you want to attack. Then you press and hold the trigger and CK will release bombs at the correct timepoint. Same for DYK precision mode.
In other aircrafts I think you just press the trigger to mark the CCRP point.
Also, it seems you to release bombs ideally from the preplanned safety altitude or otherwise they might fail to hit despite QFE and all other parameters were set up correctly.
      Time to re-read Chuck's guide.
An amazing aircraft. Would be great to have the dedicated AA-version of the Viggen. Modified engine for high altitude and some radar modifications. Would even pay for it.

@@slowhornet4802 Sorry mate, haven't got that far yet, but on page 239 in Chuck's Guide, it says for CCRP level bombing:
      16. Steer the aircraft to align the reticle dot with the TIR (Target Indicator Ring)
. Once the TIR and the reticle dot are aligned, confirm that radar ranging is being
      performed (“fin” should be visible)
      17. While TIR and reticle dot are aligned
, set Trigger to UNSAFE by clicking on the stick’s safety cover. This will mark the target and provide more accurate
      ranging information
      .

Great! That was very cool. Now do it for a strike mission where you have to follow waypoints. That would be so friggin’ cool to take out a runway when no one can see you.

In summary basically no.., you can't do this all day, it seems too dangerous to be used as a sole navigation practice but very useful for terrain "AVOIDANCE", no mention of the red warning light at all in this demo. Why? Half baked cookie serves as half baked cookie that's all. Too busy to get ready for the next one.
