What I love about the Viggen is that most systems are automated. It doesn't even need the full runway to land, you just engage reversers and you are done.

    3:rd landing alternative.
    AFK (Automatic Speed Control) on.
    Reverse thrust on.
    Throttle to full.
Follow the flight path marker that's pointed at the runway. The AFK gets disabled when the front wheel hits the ground and the thrust reverser turns on at full power.

What you said about violent take offs is equally valid for all the other planes. Many planes (e.g. A10-C and F/A18) have a button for "take off trim" - using that, the plane will fly it self off the ground. In the videos we see a lot of near tail strikes and very steep take offs - not so nice. Taking off in a fighter plane, you should generally keep the nose down till you have gained a decent speed and first then pull up.

If you go into Afterburner that overrides the thrust reverser

Thanks good Sir, the vid is still nice in 2023 :)

There's a horizontal bar in the HUD that fills up when the speed is right for rotation.equal to about 280kmh. No heads down needed.

Why dont you use AFK - Automatiskfartkontrol, the big lever beside the gear lever? Makes landings even easier.

I’m new to dcs and when I go free flight, I don’t know how to get past the briefing section, like it loads then goes to a page called briefing and I don’t know what to do

Do you guys ever abort take-offs? Can see not wanting to hit the g-key while still on the ground if you’re subsequently up but need to set her down again. Pretty sure you guys have a perfect takeoff record except for warbirds!

yup plenty of aborts in the past

Thanks for a refresh on the Viggen Cap. I take it you will be covering ILS and radar approach in another video?

What do the afterburn levels mean?

    • @grimreapers
      @grimreapers  5 лет назад

all modern planes have different stages of burn.

Another great video well done :D
You do not use ruder to prevent Viggen from snake twitching when you're doing a thrust revers landing with hard power on...
Reason it start snake twitch is front wheel is under to much heavy load and back wheel start to lift with less weight on them, like a car when under heavy breaking it get lose in the back end and start twitching left and right. To prevent that from happening all you need to do is pull the stick back to lift nose up as soon as you see nose dip down hard, put in equal stick back to the amount of thrust you put in and it will land just fine and straight with no snake twitching. A side note to that, a Viggen can easy land to a full stop in less than 100 meters if done right with the thrust reverse and that much thrust reverse obviously take some practice but that much reverse thrust is not recommended unless situation make it a necessity like landing on a road, reason is it can damage the thrust reverse plates with to much reverse thrust. ;)
    CHEERS!

On takeoff there is an indicator on the bottom of the HUD that tells you when to rotate.

You keep using the term 'clicks' when referring to speed - 250 clicks for example. A 'click' is a unit of distance, being 1000 metres. So in saying 250 clicks you are actually saying 250,000 metres. Very cringe worthy! Stop it!

    • @Darkdally

From my experience, "klicks" is often military slang for "klicks an hour".. saying "250 klicks" is .. well, 250 kilometers per hour. Idk why you're saying 1000 meters instead of "kilometers", which is what "klicks" is slang for.
