An insanely useful thing I heard from BroadcastJedi of Heatblur was how to quick-designate waypoints based on radar returns. Scenario - You're flying about and find a group of targets not in your flight plan, and rather than punching coordinates or manipulating an adjacent B/M-point to the newly found targets:
0. Set radar in A1-mode
1. Select desired BX 1-5 (when in ANF or NAV)
2. Press T1 (the waypoint will now appears straight ahead on the radar screen)
3. Manipulate waypoint onto target
4. Press TV to update target position
5. Follow regular weapons launch procedure (set QFE, master mode ANF, Mach 0.7-0.9, altitude, etc.) for said BX waypoint.
Using this method, you can have a set of BK90s launched within seconds after identifying a new set of targets.
wow. OK will have to look into this. Thanks
@@grimreapers And this, of course, works rather nicely every time you want a quick waypoint outside the route-polygon (B/M waypoints).
I remember as a kid being able to buy diecast planes that were based on real planes, they were die cast made, and something like dynacast or similar to it for the name. Remembering I had an F-14, a Mig-27 (both of those with positional swing wings), and also having an AJ-37 Viggen. Back then I didn't know what nation used the Viggen, but I used it as an enemy plane at the the time cause it reminded me a lot of the Kfir's used in movies like Iron Eagle.
I love the Viggen, but I dont like the Viggen.
Awesome video =) i've been part of a crew hanging a live BK90 under a JAS 39 Gripen (never been so nervous in my life) we were told it could cover 4-6 soccer fields and had 40 times overkill ratio =)
the team on the other side was hanging a live RB-15.... no one spoke much during this event =P and of course we then had to take them both off again =P
LOL nice story!
thanks for your service!!!
Now that’s a tutorial! Well done Cap, Shiftie, Auntie etc
Those are definitely getting some action in the new campaign!
As a yank, I would appreciate a tutorial that explains all the different accents we hear from GR pilots.
We're a rather internationally staffed unit 😁
South England, Scottish, Irish, Swedish, North German, errrm think that's it?
@@grimreapers Thank you!
@@grimreapers who is swedish?
Excellent! Of course now I want to see you guys do a hollywood-esque mass drop with as many viggens as you can muster in close formation, all dropping at the same time.
sounds fun
@@grimreapers Great to see you responding to comments again! I hope that means you are doing well.
You guys only left one minor detail out. Their is one more option for the BK90's, and that is in their default state the two gliders fly right next to each other and concentrate the explosives in a smaller area. Great for the MJ2 as their are fewer of them in a BK90.Oh, and Cap, with the ELINT pod and the BK90's you can effectively hunt down SAMs and kill them from range. I've had some sucess with that method.
Interesting, I would like to know about this SEAD method.
The U22A you guys covered in an earlier video can be used to find the SAM radar systems. After you pinpoint the location of the system, enter the coordinates as a target waypoint. After that, Turn the U22A pod into jamming mode. The jammer will jam the signal while flying towards the target and the Viggen is the expert at low and fast Terrain masking. Get in close, fire the BK90s at low Altitude, then Reverse direction. If you get the coordinates close enough they should hit. I would go for two planes with two MJ2's to make sure they kill the target.
The Bk90 and RBS15F communicates with the Viggen computer via the 1553-bus that's probably why you have to select Attack on the weapons selector!
thx aj
The PERFECT SEAD weapon
Cool , this is an interesting system .
I have got to try that weapon on my viggen :-) thx Cap
If i’m not misstaken BK90 or mod/90 is they year it was introduced in the swedish airforce (1990) . Swedes use the year on some systems like the uniforms M59 was the old one from 1959 and M90 is the new one used today. Officially introduced in 1990. BK90 has 24 bomblets.
If wishing made it so !
The classical system is a year based one yes but there are other systems as well. Missiles are named with numbers that have nothing to do with years, unless they are surface to air missiles and then they kind of do to within 5-10 years!
In the 50's and 60's the Army switched systems completely to which i have no idea what the basis was. We had Recoiless anti tank gun 1110 in that system and howitzer 4140.
When something is called 90 you have to be carefull because a lot of things in the Swedish armed forces are called 90 and it's within the 5-10 year span i mentioned.
We have CV90 Infantry Fighting vehicle that came in the mid 90s
We have KSP90 which is the 5.56mm Minimi machine gun.
We have Combat Boat 90H that came in the pretty much around 1990
We have m/90 uniform system that came in the late 90's
We have RBS90 which is an RBS70 based anti aircraft missile but is based around it's own radar tracked carrier and uses joystick controlled launchers while the crew sits inside.
@@AdurianJ yes, but more importantly for the bk90 is that a lot off stuff like stril-90, roadbase-90, these things whereof course devoped for the gripen which was supposed be fully operational -90 (roughly as you said)
Also, technically, the BK90 is not to be considered a cluster bomb either, it's officially a "sub-munition dispenser".
One of the few modules I don't own yet. Always thought it was just a one trick pony and would get boring. Could be worth a look after all though. Thanks for a great video!
It can do most types of ground attack, but not easy to use.
It might be a one-trick-pony but it's some of the most fun I've had in DCS. If you like high speed low level flights and canyon runs it's a blast.
as the Viggen has limited ground mapping capabilities with its radar allowing you to see vehicles and such in some circumstances the BK90 is the perfect weapon if you want to attack say a convoy using only your radar.
Just move the target waypoint over the radar target and fire :D
Copy AJ, that's a little above my skill level at the moment.
Thanks for the reminder that I need a new computer and TrackIR...
Useful vid, but my latent OCD wants to see a column like that attacked in line rather than from abeam. Any chance of doing another in that fashion with maybe on-the-fly waypoint designation for use against a moving column?
Yes will try this in a proper mission soon.
made it look easy
Hunt the general w/ like 10 generals vs a couple of viggens w/ bk-90s
dont think that'll work since it needs a waypoint
that was fuckin sweet
You're taking off with the M1 waypoint select, which gives me a major headache as you are supposed to take off with the LS waypoint selected, which is the initial waypoint of your starting base which is used by the nav computer during takeoff to align the nav system. It can't do that if you don't have the LS waypoint selected...
Roger noted.
Reason you didn’t get the wide separation is you never asigned code 922 to the target you were attacking. Instead you typed 922 and then LS as some kind of general ”enter button”.
You should’ve typed 922 and then B2.
...or whatever waypoint you were attacking.
roger, TBH need to redo all of these old Viggen vids.
Where's Sherman ?
He left to join two other groups.
Are you going to make a video on combatflite the standalone dcs mission editor ?
What is this? I do not know it.

Looks good will look into
@@grimreapers So far we can't use trigger or place ground units with this version (maybe in the next).
Hi bro
Thought cluster bombs were illegal in war, wait is that cap commiting a war crime????????
Cluster munitions are not illegal in itself. It's just that some countries have signed a treaty on banning them and because Sweden is one of those countries they have outphased the BK90 by now.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_on_Cluster_Munitions
@@realQuiGon Oh good! Looking forward to picking up a few at a military surplus store.
How can I get This game?
www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/
The base game is free and comes with the Su25-T and the TF51, other aircraft modules can be purchased from the Eagle Dynamics web shop.
@@Motorman2112 thx
Bk90 also known as Mjölner or mjolnir
thx
Thor's hammer indeed.
72 submunitions btw, not 90. ;)
OK. Time to dust off the joystick and hit the skies again. It's been a while. DCS BS.
1:16 There are 72 bomblets per pod
