There is no timeline. Each movie contradicts the previous movie and continuity isn't a thing. George Miller has said in interviews that Max is a mythological figure, a folk hero, tall tales told in the wasteland. Each movie is a campfire story told by different people recalling these stories.

Except in the road warrior when there is a 5 min intro explaining the events of the first movie and how max connects between them. And at the beginning of fury road how max is narrating and literally says he used to be a cop like in the first movie.
Well that explains why Max car appeared in fury road despite being blown up.
7:41 The little girl is explained in the prequel comics you mentioned. She is not his daughter. She is a girl named Glory. he couldnt save her so she died with her mother. All this happened while he was rebuilding his car, before Fury Road.

@@HappyDude1 It was depicted in the prequel comics first, part 2 of the Max series. She dies exactly as the Flashback Max had in Fury Road, runned over by a truck. In the game she dies by torture.

I’ve done the math to back this up, it’s based purely on canonical info, such as Max’s back tattoo in Fury Road, signs, script info, character ages, etc.

The feral kid was revealed at the end of the movie to be the narrator of Mad Max 2 ( Road Warrior) . He grew up to become the leader of the survivors.
There's a theory that the Feral Kid is Max in Fury Road.And that the real Max lost his mind in the Wasteland and went on to become Dementus.Similarities include them both losing their families and also the leg brace both Max and Dementus wear.

The movies are the corrupted memories of a man descending into madness as the world fell to ruin all around him.

I always saw it as how the MSX Metal Gear games connect to the "Solid" chapters. The MSX games being loose recounts of what happened with only the pivotal, iconic events being cemented in the franchises history. Snake fighting Grey Fox, killing Big Boss etc all happened in the Solid chapters. But some of the sillier bosses and the shot for shot events that popped back up in MGS1 didn't. Or how the PS1 Resident Evil 1 connects to the new continuity, as Lisa Trevor doesn't even exist in that game until the remake. So the Fury Road version of Max was a cop like the Mel Gibson version, lost his family and got his leg messed up as well. The events of the other movies happened as well, just within a loose timeline. Fury Road is a reboot that keeps certain pivotal events from the past movies intact. Like every Batman has his parents killed, every Spider-Man lost an Uncle Ben etc.
I like to think of each movie past the 1st 2, that these movies are just someone telling us fables of "The Road Warrior" Inconsistencies would make more sense. Its basically me coping. lol
I read the next mad Max movie, Wastelands, takes place before Fury Road.

A coherent timeline only works if Max in Fury Road is the 2nd Max. OG Max would have had to be in his 60s or 70s. This is evidenced by the fact that only the very old women in the film seem to remember the world before.
Or maybe he got immortal for a reason. Or maybe it's a soft reboot. Where he already born years after apocalypse

Mad Max held the title for 20 years of being the most profitable movie till that dumbass Blair Witch Project came out in 99 and dethroned it.
And that was because idiots believed it. Same way Peter Frampton had the number 1 live album ever because we kids believed he actually was making the guitar Talk. (least up till the Clapton one/mostly because of the song about his dead baby)
Music back then wasn't really seen on TV. it was on something called FM Radio.
Mad Max is an anthology, it doesn't matter if there's no continuity because each film is a retelling of the story of a mythical man surviving in the wastelands.
George Miller once said the whole idea of the Mad Max movies are telling a story of a legend figure, therefore no timeline, nor continuity. Its like a grandpa gathering kids together and telling stories of the legend Mad Max who saves people.
There isn't a Mad Max movie that I don't absolutely love, but Beyond Thunderdome is always going to be my favorite. Come on, Tina Turner as Auntie Entity?! Impossible to beat. And I really love Fury Road. I can’t find a weak entry in the entire ouvre. Miller made something really special. "Ain't we a pair, Raggedy Man?"
It's the most childish of the movies. but I'm guessing The Goonies is high on your best list as well. Another movie that had the bits and pieces of a great film, with the rest being B-Movie with the B certainly standing for Bad.
I love a universe with continuity …but also its kinda refreshing to have Miller interpret a world a little more loosely ….not researched factual history but more based on stories handed down which suits the idea of living and surviving in a broken world

From what I understood since I watched these movies was that nuclear war happened before the second movie, so the comic book is right, the second movie was based on what happened after the nuclear war
Where did you get 2050? I am guessing Fury Road happened actually in 2015, 30 something years after the 3rd part making the nuclear war actually happening in the mid early 80s, between the 2nd and 1st movie

While I'm not disagreeing with you, the first film to actually mention a nuclear apocalypse is "Beyond Thunderdome"

my theory is when you mentioned the fact that 2015 had A daughter and 1980`s mad max had A song perhaps the max we see in the reboot is the decendent of the original or was given the name in honor of the original
Actually mad max: the wasteland was meant to be a prequel to fury road.
I take the Mad Max movies like with the Evil Dead theory. The later sequels are different universes and we follow different versions of Ash or in this case, Max, but has resembling events from previous installments. So with Fury Max, with Tom Hardy being 37 at the time, I saw the film more a prequel to Thunderstorm and with gaps between 2 and 3, I just chalked it the flashbacks Max been hallucinating are events we never seen.
Should've included the comics and the 2015 game in this list.

Going thru all this... binged the 5 films today, while guzzoline might be in short supply nobody mentions that in thunderdome they've already begun establishing alternative power/ fuel sources such as methane and even the ending whereas the group of children had already started to keep thier own history whilst rebuilding a society. George Miller having a character that is legendary and essentially a "dread pirate roberts" assumed moniker that could be feats attributed to one man while actually being many a random anti hero in the course of lifetimes is epic💪🏽💯
I just love this entire world. I could live in it. Film wise lol. Actually living in it would terrifying. Can’t wait for the 6th. There better be one! No idea what the story would be. Maybe just another siege of the town after Furiosa and them take over the citadel.

Even tho it's essentially discredited, the theory that 2015's Max is actually the Feral Child from Road Warrior is still a good theory and makes more sense. He isn't so much the same Max, but a who kid who has lost his tribe and his only sign of hope is keeping a legend alive that he knew as a child. He grunts and is more silent as the feral kid, he is a narrator, and he has no memories of the original Max.
actually, we need atleast a trilogy for Mad Max played by Tom and I'm very excited for the Wasteland. We don't need a Prequel like Furiosa but its already there so its okay I'm still watching it.

It was childish is what it was. I liked it when I was a child but only the first two aged well. The first one ages the best as it's more adult story then just Action with a cool background idea like the 2nd one. But the 2nd one was Damn Cool!!!!

I’d rather see an origin story on both Toe Cutter and his brother Immortan Joe, both played by Chris and Liam Hemsworth.
Personally enjoyed all of them. I wasn’t too keen on the original but then again they never went with the post apocalyptic feel of in the first one. It was just basically about Max just fighting some bikers before the apocalypse started. It wasn’t really till part two it was really the mad Max. We all know in love I really like the video game as well was a bit underrated. It was basically like Batman as I’m just in the mad Maxwell, really like the video game as well was just very underrated

What if "mad max" is like a title, or archetype, in some post apocalyptic mythology. Like how 007 isn't always one guy. Imortan Joe could be the original mad max, and the video game mad max could be someone who comes after Fury Road mad max. Furiousa is a mad max
I believe Max is a folk hero passed on through oral tradition in a world where few can/bother to write rhibgs down. The same way stories like these kn history changed over time or were told differently by different people, the details will never all match up

Holy f at first i thought this was a sequel to previous movie but it's not the author waited 8 years to release the prequel of the first mad max movie and my theory is the big nothing was actually true in mad max game but because furusa had the map on he left arm and she lost she lost path going back home omg and that's why the gas town was already burned in mad max game 🔥
Some of the questions are answered in the comics and in the video game "Mad Max" which was confirmed cannon in an interview. The little girl could easily be the same girl that (SPOILERS, I know people started buying the game again since Furiosa came out.)

Yeah but everyone has heard that story line and the director denies it. It makes sense but it's really not worth repeating if everyone has heard it and the director has debunked it.
I would like to see a prequel of Colonel Joe too & get the Soldier turned Ruler perspective on the whole franchise. Anyway, I love all these movies & grew up with them starting with the first one in 1979
Mad Max game in 2015 has parts that add to the story as well as some comics and as well the fan made film "Mad Max: Hope & Glory" those can all explain the young girl in Max's visions. His son is long forgot to him by the time of Fury Road.

Is it possible that the feral boy on the road warrior became the mad max on fury road? He was given the musical box by max and the box reappeared on fury road.
The way I figure it, first was Mad Max, and in between there, perhaps not as direct at Australia but elsewhere there is a Nuclear exchange which would still be devestating and create the conditions we see in the later movies; then I imagine we have the events of the Road Warrior, we see Humongous, one of a growing number of 'Warlords' looking to build a Wasteland empire. After the movie Max Wanders, simultaneously Furiosa is born to a group of survivors and we see her story unfold, but during this interim Max would then encounter the events of the Mad Max WB/Avalanche video game which happen after Furiosa and before Fury Road. Then you have Fury Road. Max then wanders off again and we see an older Max in Thunderdome. Then possibly whatever new movie gets introduced....at least that's the way that makes the most sense to me. Both Mad Max and Furiosa have become two of my most favorite fictional characters and as long as they keep making these amazing movies about them, I'll keep watching them.

George Miller needs to get Mel involved in some way in this film series. Mel's portrayal of Max was the entire film series.

If Miller gets too old to make the next movie, Mel Gibson should do it. I can't imagine anyone other than Mel Gibson directing a Mad Max film. It would be incredible.
Gibson was supposed to be in fury road as max, albeit in the 90’s when Gibson was busy and getting into trouble, so it never happened. In that ending, Max would’ve gone on the platform at the citadel, thus accepting the rebuild of society
@@tijustme24correct. If i rm they wanted to do Furh Road since 1998!!! But because or Gibson being too much and playing in other movies it slowed the process and they kept reporting the movie, was supposed to happen again in 2007 but theb delayed again until they started filming in 2012
How can there be a time lime when everyone in the movies after the first are like centuries has past since the break down but then you have max that seems to be the only person who remembers the actual collapsible of society
Mad Max 79 is the best. Just the fact that it was made on such a low budget and became so iconic says as much. Not to mention that it put Australian film making on the world stage. Just a shame the yanks had to dub it.

4:00 There's no sign of nuclear event at the start of Interceptor. This is a common mistake, in my opinion mostly due to the syncretism with Hokuto no Ken.
The nuclear event took place between Interceptor and ThunderDome: as evidence, you probably remember the story of Captain Walker.
The Mad Max story narrates a progressive decay of the society as a whole, but the igniting event was the war for gasoline: the nuclear event followed many days after, when the nations were almost collapsed.

as much as I love this franchise and the world it take's place in, I can't get into a spin-off, or the practice of using the clout from a successful franchise to push something else. Probably gonna skip theatres and wait for it to stream or otherwise become available on the high seas.
This is like if Steel Frontier arbitrarily slapped "Mad Max" somewhere in it's name for no reason.
MCU has taught us that everything is supposed to be connected. 007 movies are a good analogy for this type of sequel, or the legend of Zelda games. They are stories made to fit loosely together while being stand alone movies. I loved Furiosa, but unfortunately it seems like an overall misstep bc the core audience insists "wHy WoUlD i SeE mAd MaX wITh OuT MaX..."

I heard a theory that everything after the first movie was in Max’s head. Hence why Mad comes before Max.
I think Tom Hardy's Max Mad is the mute kid from the second film Mel Gibson's Max disappeared into self exile or fake his death or died whatever and the kid took on his name and title of the Road Warrior and when he continues to tell his story as an old man.
Stupid theory,that kid was mute and Max speaks during Fury Road,so it's clearly not him.

Is does not make sense because the game comes before fury to give you all the info you need ( really good game ) But you allready start with a interceptor and it was allready destroyed in road warrior. But you rebuild it again in the game.
Miller says the installments are tall tales ..urban legends …so I stopped trying to make sense of a timeline …
At times Miller even uses a narrator who ends ups being the guy around the camp fire telling the story much like how history was passed down in the days of old.
There is no timeline that makes sense given Furiosa and Max are roughly the same age when they meet. As someone noted below Max would have to be close to 70 when he meeting Furiosa's for it to make any sense at all since Max is a grown man when the world collapses and Furiosa is clearly a child some time after the collapse. So who knows. Maybe somewhere along the way Max took on a younger protege and somehow transferred his life experiences to the younger version. Or maybe every survivor had such a similar story they took on a Max like persona. Or maybe the story teller credits Max with the deeds of others. Who knows, but clearly no timeline holds up to scrutiny.
It was written for Mel Gibson play an aging mad Max but they didn't rewrite it to accommodate the younger Tom Hardy
From what I gathered. Mel wasn't going to be asked to play the character again. Probably due to his cancellation. Man he rocked that real life grey beard though. He definitely could have came across as a oldie but goody.

There is no definitive timeline. So we go by Max's age difference in each film.
Mad Max - Max is somewhere in his mid to late 20's.
Mad Max 2 - set 5 to 10 years after the original
Mad Max 3 - set another 5 to 10 years after Mad Max 2
Fury Road is a reboot. It is not a continuation of the origjnal Mad Max trilogy.
Okay this may have already been said but you’ve taken the time to put together a pretty entertaining video but you have t read the fury road comic. That baffles me. If you had you would know that that the woman and girl from fury road are Hope and Glory from the comic. 🤷♀️

The point is Mad Max will appear as old man, and Fury road does not even have connection with mad max, Fury road is just Furiosa life, but in Furiosa movie mad max appear on cliff so back than he was young man and some how they are connected with Furiosa by the way furiosa had only mom but not dad so that will. Be the key point here.
