As someone who exclusively watches streams and has no interest in any community, RUclips is the far better viewing experience. Ads arent as invasive, I can rewind when I miss something, quality is far better because the bitrate isnt capped and so much more
I would say the whole point of livestreaming is being part of a community lol. I never truly used Twitch because I am more a VOD person myself, so having the ability to easily find a VOD is a big boon to me. The only time I ever used twitch was maybe once or twice when Mutahar would stream on there, but even then since I was watching on my TV through a game console I wasn't able to easily chat. With RUclips when I do watch a livestream I can easily pull out my mobile phone to type in the chat. Can't comment on chat functionality, but can say with 100% confidence if it wasn't for youtube VODs no way would I have ever become a fan of VineSauce Vinny since I don't think I have ever actually seen any of his livestreams live lol.
Same here. There's streamers I've been watching for 10+ years and have never commented a single thing in their chat. It's funny to me when people say the whole "point" of streams is community. The point is what you want it to be. It's just entertainment like any other media to me and RUclips works way better for that currently
That eye tracking ad thing is literally in a black mirror episode, except when you look away, the ad blares RESUME VIEWING at max volume with a high pitched noise
I'm terrible and have had RUclips Premium so long it was called Red. Not having ads on RUclips for over a decade has insulated me from just about any other platform. I appreciate streams on RUclips!
RUclips Revanced on my Mobile and Adblocks and SponsorBlocks on my PC I choose what channels i want to watch ads on and support, forcing me to do something makes me f*cking hate you with a passion.
@@cameroncorrosive925same. I don’t feel bad for paying for it, it’s the ONLY “streaming service”(besides ps plus if ya count it) I pay for and there’s a yearly option, unlike Netflix Hulu and every single streaming service that I know of that makes me pay monthly.
Charley has doctored the numbers… no one is making that sorta money. Not even the king Mr Beast… lot of contestants come out and said they win no money but have to sign NDA’s
The best part about RUclips streaming for me, as a life-long VOD gang, the VODs never expire! With Twitch, the streamer (or someone in the community) needs to run a VODs channel (which usually cuts out chat as well) because Twitch VODs expire after 2 months. Both VODs have chat which is great but the longevity of RUclips VODs just makes it win out for me.
I will say, for vertical streams on YT I've found that the superchats are actually REALLY high. I make more from donations on live vertical streams than I do on Twitch.
RUclips also pushes long streams when you have autoplay on at night. I've fallen asleep with RUclips on, only to wake up to a Charlie Dark Souls VOD playing for the third time.
Be careful with that, that counts as super-engagement and will really mess up your recommendations. Make sure to go into history and remove the streams you don't want.
I very much appreciate you being this forward with the money aspect. I kept wondering where the ratio lied but you're the only provider big enough to do this where the data sample is large enough to get a good feel for it. Again, thank you.
Well, honestly, it's THE technique. I'm looking at a streamer who has about 500 viewers per stream and only streams from time to time, one day he shown his salary on stream and he earns $20K a month JUST from ads. I can give you the name, the clip is available on RUclips. Ads pay extremely well that's why so many streamers runs them a lot
Thank you for this information. Us new streamers and content creators need people like you every once in a while to have these discussions. You should do this every 3yrs for more candid discussions and understanding of the current market of streaming and content creation.
Not even a year lol. Where I'm from a good yearly salary is 7200€-8500€. So basically for me he just made a 10yr salary in 4hrs. Times have changed. Never work a 9 t 5 job anymore.
From what I've seen between each platform, there's more audience on RUclips, yet there's more retention on Twitch. RUclips = Growth Twitch = Community This is from what I've seen, and I'm still pretty new to both, so it may be different for you. Best of luck to you all!

Another good thing with youtube is the fact a ton of people probably already have premium which lets us also watch all streams without ads and is better value than nitro
Agreed. Having YT Premium is like also having Twitch Turbo, Spotify Premium, CuriosityStream, and Quora Premium all-in-one, not to mention the usual entertainment, how-to's, and recipes. That's why I only have YT Premium and nothing else since I'm not into movies. It's good value when compared to others. (I still use AdBlock, since Premium doesn't work in Incognito, and to also block some annoying UI elements on desktop.)
I imagine the vods make so much because of people falling asleep to RUclips, I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve woken up for school and your streams are on, the same streams too I’ve “seen” your dark souls 2 vods probably hundreds of times while I was sleeping
the same happens to me, I'm never sure how soon it goes from the normal 10-15 minute length videos to the 4+ hour streams on vod. Part of me thinks RUclips know you've fallen asleep from the number of videos that multiplay so it switches to longer content to reduce how much is paid out (I'm guessing a 4 hour stream vod doesn't pay 12 times more than a 20 minute video to the creator)

this video came at the right time, im just now looking into seperating my streams from my main channel and was debating starting up another youtube channel for streams and twitch too

you can get ad free on twitch with adblockers or certain scripts, mobile is completely fked though. And its a constant cat and mouse game between the platform and adblock developers but atleast you can still watch for free without ads somehow
Charlie casually made what I'd make over 4 years of a 9/5 while streaming a game for a couple hours. Jokes aside, this is super insightful! Thanks Charlie!

Charles has also been streaming consistently for years. Routine is important in content creation and whatever one may choose to do, continue to do it regularly, post consistently and the algorithm may share the video more. @@RookSolis somehow my other comment got deleted but I’m still getting tagged in this. So I’ll say it again. If he’s buff you’ve never walked outside a day in your life.
This doesn’t just apply to large creators too. Structuring your streams as VODs on RUclips is fantastic. As a channel that just hit 20K subs, my largest livestream still made 1.5K. Just one stream out of so many more. It’s watch time that matters, not even viewership.
Two fun facts about twitch ads!!!!! If you turn an ad down to 1% volume twitch will turn the volume back up for the next ad... without moving the audio bar so it still says 1% but now you have a 100% volume ad, however dont think it will keep that volume when the ads end because twitch will then turn it back down to 1% for the livestream. Also if you mute a twitch ad and go to another tab on PC, twitch will pause the ad until you return!
A better fun fact about Twitch ads, there are countries that don't have them like Poland and the subscription of a good VPN is the same price of one Twitch sub. Can't chat though 'cus they blocked the VPN IPs from ban avoiding? Simple. Get Chatterino which is a chat client for Twitch channels, and then split tunnel it (look it up, basically it launches a program outside the active VPN so you connect to it with your own IP), and there you go. Adfree Twitch for every channel on the site with chat.
I have multiple tabs of a few twitch streams open at a time and I use my browser to mute the tab rather than the actual in-video audio slider... I do this because I ASSUME it helps the streamer but I guess I don't honestly know. I wonder if people do the same thing for me at all but it all just shows as me basically having no viewers regardless. At least it's just a hobby for me rather than a particularly serious attempt to shift my income.
personally I prefer youtube because it is more “simple” and transparent where twitch pushes me off by puting a lot of pressure on monetization because wherever I look on any strim I see “subs, bits, gifts, points etc” and not to forget about the rewinding option which is a deal breaker when twitch stream sudennly decides to freeze and then show me an error so i lose plot damn it

W video! I will try that out and come back if it is something I am willing to keep going! I plan on becoming a streamer and uploader since streaming is now a thing to do nowadays
Keep in mind, that 80k is over a 4 month period. The 20k is revenue generated since April. While these are extremely impressive numbers you have to factor in Charlie's view count on top of the fact that it was generated over a period of time. We're talking months. That's quite a long time. It's not like he printed that number in a day. And keep in mind, Charlie is one of the largest content creators out there. There are infinite ways to make a lot of money, and this is one of the hardest industries to break into. It's over saturated, the payouts aren't consistent (higher/lower depending on content, sponsor friendliness, etc), and it's extremely time consuming. Don't try to follow in Charlie's footsteps just for the money seeing his statistics unless you truly love content creation and would love to continue doing it for an average salary for another decade with the slim chance of hitting it big.

This doesn’t just apply to large creators too. Structuring your streams as VODs on RUclips is fantastic. As a channel that just hit 20K subs, my largest livestream still made 1.5K. Just one stream out of so many more. It’s watch time that matters, not even viewership.
Discoverability is way better on Twitch. RUclips never shows me streamers. You earned another sub because I checked out your streams.

It's over saturated, the payouts aren't consistent (higher/lower depending on content, sponsor friendliness, etc), and it's extremely time consuming.

its still not too late tbh , better late than never starting..
@jskyler5422 Open any twitch game category and keep on scrolling. All these 99%+ streams with 0-10 viewers would be probably you. I'd argue it's easier to win a lottery than starting a streaming career now, unless you are really good at a game or extremly entertaining, which nobody would even know, because nobody would check on a 1 viewer stream.
10:35 100% agree, I would rather wait for the RUclips video rather than watch a twitch stream that’s filled with 10 consecutive ads and it ends up being 70% ad and 30% what I’m there to watch
Ironically getting this recommendation right before multi streaming myself. This is the greatest psychic summoning of all time. applause charles👏🏾
This is so so helpful. Thanks for making this and showing how it can be.
I appreciate your openness Charlie.
This streaming situation is crazy
I don't currently multi stream but have looked into it. I will say that the RUclips vod's are insane, some of my vod's make a difference on income from RUclips Adsense. It's nice to also see Charlie be very transparent about his analytics, it's really interesting to see the analytics
keep up the good work man good luck
this is a great point, i usually watch vods on youtube that are re uploaded from fan channels, i wish more streamers posted their own vods here to get the double bag

You know chimeras aren’t just from full metal alchemist right? They’re from Greek mythology and are the combination of multiple animals often lions, goats, dragons and many other animals.
Bro that last bit really inspired me. the honesty and also recognition of what was important is really admirable. Keep killin it
I multistream which is helpful because as a small channel, when one side has no numbers/chatters, the other does which makes me happy to multi stream all the time.
what multistream service do ypu use i was looking at the obs built in one but aperently it uses alot of resorces
@@ghost942 Streamlabs is lightweight for struggling laptops and computers, it works on my potato hooked with a antenna
I'm interested to know as well. Is there a way to combine the chats from Twitch and RUclips on the stream? Or did you just make separate chat boxes?
@@ghost942 I used one thats built into OBS too
@@MichaelStallingsmadmike472 I just use my 2nd monitor and pop out both chats, however that is a good idea
I needed this man. Thank you
you're the only guy on youtube who'd give us the actual numbers and not bullshit us
if we know someone makes a million dollars a month playing video games we are less likely to give them money, charlie is just at the point of doing it for 10 years that he doesn't give a shit anymore, this video is probably just him needing an ego boost cuz hes short and boasting about making our yearly salaries playing a shitty video game for 4 hours.
