I’m looking forward to changing the oil on my polo, can’t wait. I’ve never done anything like this but I want to learn and this along with many other videos is much help!
I had the battery featured in this video too, so lasted what 12 years? Pretty good going! Only started hitting trouble when it occasionally struggled to ignite. Safe to say it has been replaced. Thank you for the video however; really helpful and easy to understand.
For this engine is best full synthetic oil. And 15w 40 is not recommended. I am using 10w 40 full synthetic Castrol oil with VW 501 01 or 502 00 specification and changing it every 7000 kM (oil can get pretty hot in this engine, so it's better to change it sooner). But nice video :)
hello, recently I bought a polo9n from 2003, this car is awesome, only 3 of this in my country.. a real problem if you try to find some parts and accesories but this car has only 75k km and use still full sythetic oil, so is a good proyect for me to keep it into the family. btw great video, I have learned so much from this ...link
Always like your vids before I even watch the whole thing! I know they're going to be great anyway! Really hope you blow up soon mate and start earning those youtube big bucks! Like his vids guys it only takes us 5 seconds, I imagine it takes him hours to make these vids.
I don't recommend to use SAE 15W-40 oils in a car with timing chain like the 1.2 VW engines. Rather synthetic 5W-30 or 5W-40 according to the owners manual. For this engine I would use ACEA A3/B4 or C3, SAE 5W-30 or 40 oils, with a specification of VW 502.00 according to weather conditions.
Very helpful video thanks. I had no idea that maintenence like this was such a easy job. You'd think considering the price you pay to mechanics that this would be a nighmare job to do yourself.
Great video. Do you know if this type of air filter is only in earlier Polos? I have to do an 05 1.2 later this week and I think it might have a simple air box with some screws, all accessible from the top................??
If you have idle problems with your polo 1.2 check the ignition coils. If one (or several) the of coils is (are) broken, then also change the spark plugs.
Question. I have Skoda Fabia MK1 with the same engine (air filter housing is maybe a little different). Considering the airflow sensor location, am I free remove this air filter housing and put a different one without tuning? Thanx!
Hi, Great video as usual. I have got vw polo 9n3 1.4 2009 auto with only 17k miles so far. I've done about 8k since last service 2 years ago. Few months ago I could smell burning plastic or something inside the cabin from air vents during driving but only sometimes and for few seconds only. It's a different smell to the burnt clutch. Checked coolant level which is only about 5mm below the minimum, oil doesn't seem to leak and doesn't smell burnt too. Opened a bonnet but couldn't find the source of burning. There is no errors on dashboard. Is it normal for automatic gearbox that car jumps a bit when changing gear from 1 to 2? On higher gears it runs smoothly. Please can you advise what that could be. Thanks
I have a question, a VW Polo 1.2 of 70 hp 6R, to change spark plugs is it imperative to buy originals from the brand so as not to make a mistake or can we buy brands like Bosch or NGK or similar in competition? I heard an engineer say that he saw a case where they put some NGKs and it went wrong after a few kilometers, which then went out.
yes, great video, detailed and explained, keep them coming, you got a big like! btw, I have a polo 1.2l 47kw 2004, and I have a strange clicking/ ticking sound when the engine is running, it is like metal on metal. do you have any idea what could it be?
I take the procedure you did on this 2002 MK 4 Polo would be the same as the procedure I would need to follow on my 2006 Polo Face lifted version? Thanks! Mine is a 1.2 (55) but mine doesn't seem to have an engine cover like yours?
Great video. Really Useful info. One question though, did you say you were using a part synthetic 15w40 oil rather than a fully synthetic 5w30? If so why is that? Thanks
Joel B BMAC VAGS Wondering the same thing as I have a 10w40 semi-synthetic and i am planning on using that will that cause any problems? anyway awesome vid thanks
can you tell me where the mass airflow metre is on this car I would love to give it a clean. Also this might be a stupid question but are spark plugs standard or specific to the car?
what oil did you use, my manual suggest i should use VW500.00/VW501.01/VW502.00 oil. problem is i can't find these types. PS: which oil/fluid is used for the powersteering.
hi vags in video where doing filter ,what's the name of the rubber that's between the filter box and carb as mine has split , but can't find name of it thanks
@bmac vags i am having vw polo 1.2 2002 model last night its timing belt left its place and but not broken but remoed from all whels does it will hurt my engine or not bcoz when i reached home engine was fine and ok i switch of and jst again try to start but it wasnt start but when i was driving no bad sounds nothing it was fine when i switch of and try again to start its not stariting i am scard help me to tell me is thier ant danger or not thanks
That's what I want to know, I have this same model and cannot find a k&n filter that fits it so have now turned to an induction filter but do not know how it will work with the tubes that connect to the engine cover
Hey! I have a VW Passat VR5 2000, It keeps making this sound where it's like someone is revving up the engine but in fact the car is standing still with no gears in. A friend suggested that it could be the throttle and i took it out and cleaned it. It's still making this sound and the arrow on the dashboard keeps moving between 10-15 rmp. And sometimes when i have the first/second/third gear in and press the gas pedal and I remove my foot the car starts jumping. Do you know what the problem is? (Sorry if I don't have the correct name for all the car parts, love your RUclips Channel, keep up the good work! :D)
Hey grate vids verry helpful . I have a question for i have a standard mark 4 an I'm having power loss an sputtering wen pulling off an is puting out not even half of the power it did before could this be the fuel filter/pump or something els
An old thing but copper washers can be reused if you heat them to a mildly glowing red heat to re-soften them, but no more than twice in its lifetime. And lets face it there so cheap why bother anymore :)
lez briddon actually re using a copper washer in this way is really stupid... because when the washer is first used it is compressed crushed if you will which makes it more dense and at the end of its crushing range. Re heating may soften the washer but you are now using a thinner washer than is required. You may get away with it or it may write off your car. Spend a penny and buy a new one. peace
Awesome, my Bora is at 58k at the moment, I've got a Haynes I was going to attempt it when the weather is a bit better. But it's invaluable to actually see someone doing it!
It didn't work lol i changed the inlet and fuel filter and air filter and still the same so think I'll hav to bite the bullet and take it in to a garage
Its a bit hard to say what the issue could be with the symptoms you have stated. It really could be anything, fuel pump, coil pack, leads, injectors etc. Does it idle rough?
Yes it dose a bit but iv just fond that the manifold hose has a few cracks in the part that sucks the oil in gana go get a new one and hope that's wot the problem is . I almost didn't see the cracks
Yea i have been can't seem to find any other leeks ther was some oill on the manifold it self but thort maby it's just dripped from the hose an also the oil is low so ill top that up . Dose the cracked hose make the engine sputter ?
Yes, a vacuum leak would affect the the general running of the car. It is unaccounted air entering the combustion chamber, which causes engine management problems.
@@liviu9181 Viscosity does not define use of oil. It only defines temperature range it can be used for. The best choice for this engine is actually 5W-50 as it resists high temperatures very well as this engine seriously overheats engine oil during summer long trips.
I’m looking forward to changing the oil on my polo, can’t wait.
I’ve never done anything like this but I want to learn and this along with many other videos is much help!
Cool, just don't do the air filters replacement on the hard floor or you will scratch the cover.
well done , clear , simple and well paced , a great teacher , keep it up BMAC !
Tools can short to earth through bodywork or other parts if Positive terminal is being loosened 1st...so always loosen Negative terminal first!
I had the battery featured in this video too, so lasted what 12 years? Pretty good going! Only started hitting trouble when it occasionally struggled to ignite. Safe to say it has been replaced.

Cool man, you save big bucks doing the job yourself, and got all the satisfaction.
Great video! Should have shown replacement of the cabin filter as well :)
Really helped me out. Nice one, clear and straightforward guide. Excellent.

Like his vids guys it only takes us 5 seconds, I imagine it takes him hours to make these vids.
Great video mate. Cheers. Have you got a video showing how to replace the rear brake shoes on the same car ?
NICE ONE BRUVVA!!! Very useful, am going to go get my hands dirty now
No problem
Thanks for the video but you should have put some Vaseline or grease on the battery contacts.
Plain and simple. Only difference on my 1.2 is that the sump nut is removed using a star * socket instead of the allan socket.
thank you for taking time to post this video here
Really, REALLY helpful!!!!! This is my sunday sorted!!! Thanks!!!
Very helpful video thanks. I had no idea that maintenence like this was such a easy job. You'd think considering the price you pay to mechanics that this would be a nighmare job to do yourself.
You're welcome!
awesome video man....I feel more confident to do mine....I actually going to download and simulate this video....Good work !!!
The day I buy my first car which will be a polo that will be the day I buy my first toolbox too
This was a very well done video. Fantastic work.
Thank You Bruno :)

Great video and channel, easy to follow and good advice. Nice one!!
Good video! These polos are breeze to work on, used to have one myself, never got into any problems with this nippy motor.
Yh defo, they are solid vehicles
If you have idle problems with your polo 1.2 check the ignition coils. If one (or several) the of coils is (are) broken, then also change the spark plugs.
Great video. I have a slightly different engine on the same year car but turned out the same. thanks

Great video. Does anyone know what size spark plug socket he used?
Spot on Video Mate ... Keep em Coming

Thank you for watching
Good stuff, good man. very helpful

Hi, great vid, but I have a little question, how do you replace the fuel filter?
It's my question too, go on BMAC, we are waiting and thank you by advance :)
Under the car, offside rear, near to the tank, just two hoses and one metal clip holding fuel filter, simple.
Thank you for this video and explaination :)
How do you avoid timing chain on 1.2 polo 2006 jumping a tooth after oil change with low oil pressure first turn of key it can jump a tooth
Where is the mass air flow sensor?
Top vid mate - nice one
This is awesome, thanks bro!!!!
hi vags in video where doing filter ,what's the name of the rubber that's between the filter box and carb as mine has split , but can't find name of it thanks
Hi, what company did you buy the spark plugs from?
3 valve or 3 cylinder ?
How would you install a induction kit on here ?
Hi could you please help me how to lower revs for my car vw polo 1.2?
Many thanks
Dan

great vídeo really helpful
Will it be 100% safe with the different oil?
15W40 ? Aint it bit to heavy for such small engine ? 5W30 would seem as better fit, or even 0W30
Nice one.
Thank you very much!
can you put an air filter for a 1.4 on a 1.2?
Great job bro.. Can you come and fix mine......
great video. cheers
i have a slight oil drip under the drivers side of the oil pan from behind the engine, no idea where its coming from :-(
Bearing in mind the air filter is housed in that engine cover, is it possible to put an induction filter on this engine?
That's what I want to know, I have this same model and cannot find a k&n filter that fits it so have now turned to an induction filter but do not know how it will work with the tubes that connect to the engine cover

Nice video, BMAC!
Thanks For taking the time to watch it
Mar5253 what a nice thing to say
Nice one m8, the Mann filters are good?
Mann supplying VAG parts, so they are basically genuine product that you get from a dealer only without the vw logo.
KALARADO thanks bro
and that the track at the beginning?)

anyone an idea what socket size to use for the spark plug ???
thanks!
а что за трек в начале??)
Okay, big ask. Have you thought about doing a tappet/cam change video for the MK4? :-)

15 w- 40 oil?? manual recomands 5w-30 ? is that not gonna damage the engien?
It is not a good idea as there is a hydraulic chain tensioner. And it could take longer to get pressured oil to it.
