She thought she couldn't sing. He is still my favorite singer. I got to see them in concert and got to talk with them for like 15 minutes. He was bigger than I thought and it was the only time I was star struck! When I was really little I would kiss the tv when he was on. She told him to give me a kiss. I started crying! She was a spitfire!

She grew up with a singing family called 'The Carter Family'. When she married Johnny, she became June Carter-Cash. She was the love of his life. They were married 35 when she passed i 2003. There are cool pics of her towards the end of his video for 'Hurt'. Also, the shoes look like cowboy boot heels.
Reese Witherspoon won a Best Actress Oscar for playing June Carter Cash in Walk The Line. Joaquin Phoenix was nominated for Best Actor for playing Johnny (he was robbed!! - though he did win the Golden Globe). Great movie! The Carter family was a famous country/gospel music family.

June Carter was soon to be Cash at the time of this performance. June was Country Music Royalty. She performed with the Carter Family with her sisters and mother Maybelle Carter (original Carter Family was Maybelle, her brother in law A.P. and sister in law Sara). The original Carter are considered founders of Country Music.
Their love story is epic.
They’re singing about Jackson, Tennessee, which is where Rockabilly legend Carl Perkins lived. He wrote “Blue Suede Shoes” made famous by Elvis Presley, and had several hits of his own. He was part of the Million Dollar Quartet, with Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The Beatles and many others counted Perkins among their musical influences.
June and John loved each other for life.

Johnny Cash used to listen to The Carter family on the AM radio and he was a huge fan. It's just so funny that he would fall in love with a younger generation. And their love story is tumultuous and a long time unfolding but it is really ultimately beautiful. She was so damn good but then she came from one of the greatest musical families in that era.

Johnny Cash and June Carter met backstage at the Grand Ole Opry after an Elvis concert in 1956. Presley had told June about Johnny Cash prior, having made her listen to his songs on a jukebox multiple times. It took approximately a dozen years of his pursuing her and her saying no intil she finally she said yes. They were married for 35 years until her death. Johnny died 4 months later officially of complications from his diabetes, although many believe it was a broken heart that was the real contributing cause of death.
June was actually a bigger name than Johnny was when they first got together.
June Carter Cash can play quite a few instruments. The Whole Carter family was very talented, and Mother Mabelle Carter wrote some beautiful songs.
Johnny Cash was my grandmother’s favourite artist and Elvis was second. She went on the bus tours in the 70’s to see Johnny and Elvis in concert. I can’t help but think of her each time I hear them both sing. Thanks for sharing.
In 2009, there was a biopic movie about them. Called, "Walk the Line" starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. It was pretty good. I believe it's on Max now.

June is good but Johnny is a legend...the world lost one of the best when he passed.
Definitely react to more of Johnny & June singing together. He fell in love with her when he was married with I think 4 kids. (He married too young and his career was very hard on his marriage. She left him when she heard the rumors about him and June.) He pursued June for years, and hired her often in order to be with her on the road and win her over. It wasn't until after he got sober, if I remember correctly, that she finally agreed to marry him. He'd asked her many times to marry him and then one day on a live TV performance he asked her in front of the audience! Of course she had to say yes.
When they performed together, their love for each other was so evident. It was a beautiful and heartwarming experience to witness them together. It was truly one of those rare love stories of people finding their soul mate. Their love for each other never faded. They were together until she passed away a few years back. He passed about a year later, I think.

June comes from country music royalty. The Carter Family were legendary before Johnny was famous. June’s parents were Ezra and Maybelle Carter. Ezra’s family were all musically inclined. It’s almost impossible to understand the importance of the Carter-Cash dynasty and their impact on not only country music, but over all American music. John Carter-Cash is the son of Johnny and June. He is leaving his own musical legacy mainly working as a highly sought after musical producer.
This may be out of left field, but if you LOVE Johnny Cash then may I suggest you listen to perform It’s Crowell’s Love Song to Johnny Cash and what makes it so special is that Crowell wrote it for Johnny - who used to be his father-in-law when Crowell was married to JC’s daughter Roseanne! (BTW: Crowell released the song six years after he & Roseanne divorced so it’s obvious Crowell remained close to the Cash family after that split.)

My favourite Johnny Cash song is “Man in White”. The song I enjoy hearing him singing with his wife June is “Far Side Banks of Jordan” It’s quite prophetic regarding the order they went.
Don't know what year this is but it might be before Johnny and June were married. This looks total 60's and I don't think they married till the 70's... not sure I know June had a growl in her voice that was amazing... love her

When Johnny was presented with the song "Hurt" he said that wasn't his type of song. "June Bug" as he referred to her as told him that it's just the him and when he does decide to record it it will be his. June directed Johnny many times on songs and those are the ones that became iconic. She was a savvy writer and business industry woman.
