    It is a total rip off.
    Even for basic white color you have to pay around 127 EUR, depends on the country. This is for all the VW-Audi models. Basis free color is only ugly gray. Manufacturer should be ashamed, they already charge a fortune for cars and every decent option. They should at least offer some basic non metallic free colors, like Red, White and Black.

      @@KazanKhan786 some of there new high end cars such as the a8 and a7 are quite good and I always have a soft spot for the R8 (the new face lift is stunning) but I agree everything lower than an A5 is quite crap. Particularly the A3 and A4. And I think the q7 is praised far too much. It's an estate car trying to be a top of the range massive SUV and I find the interior really boring compared to the Volvo XC90 and the Land Rover Discovery.

    Very disappointed about the scratchy plastics in the A1, at this price point. And charging extra for all colours except white is outrageous!. You're right, Polo is very similar and a whole lot cheaper.
    Great video Ginny, as always! You're the car reviewer I most enjoy watching - worldwide!
    (One tiny gripe, if I may: a grammatical mistake that's spreading like wildfire and, as a linguist, makes my hair stand on end: It should be "from Batch and ME", we can't say "from I". e.g. John and I are waiting for a new video from Batch and me.)

    • @Astke
      @Astke 5 лет назад +2

      Really? I went to a dealer as well and thought the audi was quite a bit better than the Polo, let alone the Ibiza. Especially that interior design. The LED head and tallights are really something special in this segment. It only should have been maybe 1-2 grand more expensive than the Polo not the ridiculous amount that it costs now.

    • @ast5515
      @ast5515 5 лет назад

      These do look cheap but so does the Polo.
      Value for money and VW group cannot be in the same sentence regardless of model you are talking about.
      Buy a Mini if you have the money, buy a Fiesta if you don't.

    • @Astke
      @Astke 5 лет назад

      @@ast5515 Cars are not always about value for money. It is about what you want to buy. and what you like. I can't stand the Fiesta except the ST-line. But here in the Netherlands you can only get the 5-door ST-Line one with a 100 Horsepower manual.
      And that one is a fair bit slower the 115 horsepower DSG that you can get in the Polo. So it is just not worth it for me. Besides that, regardless of the exterior looks of the ST-line, it won't change the fact that I don't like the interior either.

But with the new models i've got a 2018 polo and I can't help but think that there's not much difference between the polo and new A1, I think that audi have been a bit lazy with this model sharing a lot of parts with the polo.

    I had the last version of this car. It had a sort of feel of luxury for a small car. It was reliable. But it wasn't a nice drive. It had no feedback. It was the dullest drive. It looked sort of sporty, but that was where it ended. Apparently, this new model is the same. Top Gear says: "Ride and handling: The best you get from the A1 is competence. There’s no steering feel and no sense that the chassis wants to engage". - I was glad to trade it in.

    The 3-door of the previous gen will go down as a design classic. This one looks terrible. Apart from that, the lack of a 3-door will kill its sales

      I agree, the previous gen looks better on the outside, and I have to say, the interior looks so much better as well, less complicated, with great soft touch plastics. I can't believe there aren't soft touch plastics on the new one... All in all, the new A1 made me consider a 2nd hand first gen A1!

      @Astke 5 лет назад +1

      @@sequentialgear The only thing is. this one has soft touch plastics (only on the dash though, so I kind of get it), and I doubt that no 3-door version would kill any sales. Otherwise why would you think almost every manufacturer is killing them. Probably because the costs of making different version is not worth it.

    • @VolvoMetal
      @VolvoMetal 5 лет назад

      Lack of 3 door will kill the sales? They removed 3 door variants from more or less all the new hatches because they are down to like 5-10% of the sales, simply not worth making two different bodies when so few buy them.

      Lack of 3 door will kill sales?...... Almost every car manufacturer is now not making 3 door variants because the sales of the 5 doors are higher than the 3 door.....

    From this video it looks like plastics have been downgraded. The old A1 had plastics a grade up from a polo. This seems to be the same grade and similar to a fiesta for quality. Doesn't feel premium despite all the tech. Audi's USP it's interiors seem to be slipping a little. The A2 looks smarter.

    Why would anyone buy an Audi/Volkswagen? The Koreans are doing more for less and still above (and increasing) industry average for reliability, whereas Audi/Volks probably have additional charges for breathing near their cars and have horrid reliability. The argument that their “quality” is better because they use soft plastics, and higher “quality” materials doesn’t mean much when they’re more likely to breakdown and leave you stranded on the side of the road. Your soft dash plastic won’t help you much in that situation. Why people still buy these in the numbers they do is dumbfounding.

    Good independent report. Bad news if the A1 is based on the A3 as the this is a 7 year old design. A 3 year old Golf would be a better buy. I will never understand why people pay for the badge on any car less than the mid range A4/MB C-class/BMW 3-series - anything smaller from the same brands are just not worth the premium price when compared to the competition from Hyundai/VW/Honda/Toyota/etc.

    I used to wash my hands with a similar "Stück Seife".... The VAG has created merely one more car, that's all. The global trend to build nice gadgets instead of automobiles seems to be the same for all brands nowdays.

    All colours should be stadard as there no way they will be paying the paint companies different amounts for different colours. Ok may be chromaflare effects might cost a little more (like what TVR used to do).

    I’m seeing all this negativity towards this car but this is Audi’s entry level car priced at £18,540 which is aimed at the “lower class” mainly which is why it looks cheap in some areas, you get what you pay for I wasn’t expecting soft touch dash and luxury materials because most likely messy kinds will be using this car and tbh it has Audi’s virtual cockpit and a pretty good infotainment screen so compared to the previous A1 this is definitely and upgrade
