I made this a few weeks ago for my RS4 3 Evo and they work great for low speed and fun drifting. A hard rubber compound drift tire like the HPI Super Drift A-Type tires are great once you get experience and are ready for high speed drifting. The only problem I have with the raw ABS is that you don't get enough grip for transferring but They're cheap and fun nonetheless. Also after some experimenting instead of gluing and having the possibility of not being able to reuse the rims Wrap the inside lip with Electrical tape and mount them outside rim going into the rim by pushing it down. The tape makes a very snug fit and I have 15 tanks through the tires before I had to re-adjust the tires a little bit from slipping off.
Yeah, I like the T Drifts for the places I run. The ABS tires are great practice tires and for asphalt. I was kinda forced to make these as the wide wheels on the porsche had no alternatives
Lol i remember when i was 13 watching this video and doing this to my tamiya m06 hahaha. I miss ur videos man hope ur doing good during these hard times 🙏🙏
Good deal. One thing that I didn't mention in the video, that I later dropped a spot of CA glue on back side of the tire wear it touches the rim. Just kept it in place better
What sucks is the new version with the Porsche body that's about to be released has these same wheels it looks like, and I'll probably have just as much trouble finding drift tires:-( Such a crazy wheel size, but the body looks so good.I also wonder if you could make up the offset difference with a different wheel hub.
Pretty good. Like I showed, they are little less in diameter, but you can't really tell. They work great though. I got about an hour of drift time in today.
the tire height difference will def alter vehicles original performance the result will be a lower top speed but in turn initial torque will increase all depends on preference !!
Just buy the HPI touring wheels and cut the ABS pipe in the video....They should bolt right on. I ran HPI wheels/tires on my 1/16th Traxxas Ken Block (same chassis as the Slash)
Look for a D3 or D4 from Sakura - most likely used....The chassis alone is about $100. If you don't mind a 50/50 drivetrain, the HPI Sprint 2 / Sport 3 ar3 decent, but they're in the $250+ category RTR
i have the sukura d3 3r front motor, with a hobbywing brush-less motor and the only issue is the belt wore out in the front a little faster than expedited, but overall its pretty great with the right battery youll be pushing alot of power, with rubber wheels itll do burnouts
I wouldn't get to cuttin all them tires yet cuz w different body's it's different offset just an FYI.. That was me learning the hard way thinking it's always 3mm front 6mm in back lol most have 3 all the way around smh I wish I would have known that before I got my wheels lol
Yeah, I realized that a while back with my original Sprint 2 Flux. It had 3mm/6mm and then when I went a 200mm body, it was way off. I'll pretty much buy the wheels and custom cut them for those wheels
hey fella nice job on making the wheels definitely a good alternative I just thought I'd let you know if you wanted some really nice looking style I have the HPI rs4 sport 3 flux brushless it's the even wider Porsche body with the same rims and tires pretty lots of power people never beleive me when i tell them my porche swings both ways I race it as a touring car and drift for fun i dial it back with my flux programmer power level 25% and my punch level to about level 2, adjust my end steering end point then I throw on a set of HPI low profile 35 millimeters wide with a9 offset and the front I the matching rim with a 32 millimeters wide and 6 offset with matching low profile tires HPI has a whole line of the low profiles that are official licensed real wheels with about five or six different rims styles each ranging in size from 9 offset the three offset and 35 millimeters wide to 29 millimeters wide this series also includes several different types of tires for the drifting radial such as a Bridgestone Falcon and you Yokohama and they look so.bad a$$ hpi did have rubber radial m compound brimstone tires to match these rims as well but they discontinued them which really ticks me off because I'd like a set of them and I can't find them anywhere. any way I payed 26 dollars for the front and back rims and 15 for the tires off amazon there are still alot of them. drift on brother
my car is buggati veyron 16.4 red can't find any drift wheels but my wheels are kinda different front are slim and the back wheels are thicker there are no hobby stores only hobby lobby there was one but its closed down for like two years
They're the tires that came with the Falken Tire Porsche 911 GT3 RSR Sprint 2. Very unique tire with wheels that have a 9mm offset front and a 14mm offset rear
I use duct tape to make the mudders and electrical tape for drift. And I have studded a rc car out with just screwing in 1 inch screws to keep the heads or then you have studs good traction in rougher terrain
There are much cheaper ways of doing a lot of things. You'll find as you get older tho that cheaper isn't always better. Tape wears off, doesn't work as well, and especially if you want to compete are terrible for actually practicing for real, especially if you're on rough concrete or asphalt. Sure it's okay to goof around with every once in a while, but not if its what your hobby becomes geared towards. If he decides to further progress in drifting, concidering the type of car he owns (not a cheap wal-mart car) I'm sure even he will spend a few extra dollars for some actual drift tires. As for myself, the hour it takes to research how to do this, time it takes to shop for the right pipe, time it takes to cut them, bevel them, and color them, and make sure they fit, I could just stay at work an extra few hours and just buy the actual tires.
I would use combination of different techniques. 3D print your rims of choice to get your wanted look. ABS can be chopped and combined with it self using acetone to chemically weld the seam, if proper size pipe is not available. You can collect HDPE plastic, heat it in oven (not your kitchen oven:D maybe get small one from drift store) and press into mold. PVC has its own glues and technically you can plastic weld it with heat, but that vents harmful gasses so its not recommended. To get best results i suggest you make a tool for your drill. Steel rod or bolt size of your car axle, drill a hole for pin to keep hub in place. Make treads in the end for nut in case of steel rod or just chop the back end off from bolt. Mount this into your drill, install your diy wheel into tool and now you can smoothen the wheel in this make shift lathe using files and rasps. If you make stand for couple of low friction ball bearing to put the tool in, you can also balance your wheels for some extent.
Probably not, those cars aren't extremely powerful and this piping can add a bit of weight, also like he said, to get the tires off and fit to the piping could be quite a challenge. But you could bring your car to Home depot and see what sizes they have! could be an awesome experiment! Again it goes back to power, this is a 300$ power machine.
Next time don't buy hpi. HPI sucks. Their cars are junk, their trucks are okay..ish, and their bodies are absolute garbage. Next time go Tamiya, Yokomo, 3racing, Losi or MST. But, kudos on the tires. Nothing beats custom builds :)
The RCNetwork Try using washers to take up the spacial difference. If the front axle isn't long enough, it could take some custom fabrication to the axles but it can be done. Good luck with your project. And again, awesome job on the tires. They look legit.
i remember doing this 10 years ago haha.. great to see people still do this! nice tutorial
+jeiarnee castor Nice! Yeah, it's not rocket science!
@Exprert so 14.5 years
@@ilikeyacutg8618 so 14.6 years ago

Rich those are the best looking homemade drift tires I've ever seen
Thanks Johnny! They did turn out nice! I'm set to make some more for. New set of wheels I just got in.
Awesome, can't wait for the new wheels video
Lol i remember when i was 13 watching this video and doing this to my tamiya m06 hahaha. I miss ur videos man hope ur doing good during these hard times 🙏🙏
Doing great! Thanks for watching!
Thank you , now I can do my own tires
+Hicham66Hicham Good deal, glad to help!
Sweet rich, great job on the wheels.
Thanks SCRC!
Cool now time to see them in action .
That will be soon. Just got done with the first few stages of mods.
Appreciate your help because im urgrading my rc truck to a drift car
Glad to help!
Thank Rich for sharing this. Hey by the way riding season is around the corner and it's time to dust that Pivot off and hit some single track :)
Riding season??? I was on the trails this morning! Lol
Keep your speed Fast hey Man
Awww dude!! You a master!! hahaha!! In case of RWD.. does the wheels put front and rear? Thanks!
yes but on the front and rear
Excellent job
Thanks for watching!
Dude those look awesome good job!
Thanks GF!
"GF" confused me for a second.
I made drift tires the same way and they last a hell of a lot better than store bought no lies
+impjig nice! They really do work great, especially if you use them on rough concrete. I just don't like the smell of the burning ABS! lol
Are you still doing a run video of the Losi? I wanna see it hammering around the track.
Yeah, just ironing some things out with the set up. Also ha a slipper clutch mishap
Awesome work, I sure wish I had the tools to do up some like that!
Really, the needed tool is a miter saw or band saw to get the pipe cut perfect. As far as rounding them over for the bevel, you can you sandpaper
they look excellent. how did you like the performance?
+koollee Very good on asphalt...not so good on concrete, but they did okay
It is a great thing you beveled the edge so when in a drift on a parking lot it won't catch the edge and kick the car around
Yeah, at first I was thinking it was all cosmetic. Now it's a performance mod!
this is awesome
Thanks Ty. It's pretty simple to do
Thank you . Was reli helpful, in India its not that easy to get Rc drift tyres and even some give a weird look when i go enquire about it.
Good deal. One thing that I didn't mention in the video, that I later dropped a spot of CA glue on back side of the tire wear it touches the rim. Just kept it in place better

Matthew Fant Yep, same wheels and tires, which makes doing anything different with that body almost impossible. I tried all sorts of axle ideas....
Nice work! How do they look on the car?
Pretty good. Like I showed, they are little less in diameter, but you can't really tell. They work great though. I got about an hour of drift time in today.
I always wanted an RC CAR like that
The Sprint 2 from HPI is a great all around touring/drift car and most of the time retails for $249 for the base model and $349 for the fast one
Thank you tape
Nothing like warm ABS smell though!
How did you make rims?
Yes good quest i want to know
He bought them
how to make the rims and the pvc bodyshell dude?
@@luftwaffle6701 how to "make" not where to bought🤡
good job on those drift tires man. nice touch adding the bevel.
Thanks Ryan! I think it took me longer to set up all the shop tools vs actually cutting these!
it always does!
the tire height difference will def alter vehicles original performance
the result will be a lower top speed but in turn initial torque will increase all depends on preference !!
Yep, realized, but these are for a drift car, so top speed isn't really an issue
I wonder why people don't run these on the rear of a rwd chassis. It seems like it would add more grip for more speed.
There's a ton of science in rwd drifting these days.,.....
Nice
hi there. how did you manage to take the rubber tires of the rim?
drop them in boiling water??
any help would help.me out .
cheers.
+Hydra Inarms I purchased new rims....but I do know the boiling water trick works.....be careful and protect your hands from the boiling water though
+The RCNetwork cheers mate will do
Where are you mann!?
Oh, I'm still here! Just not making RC videos....after 1,000 videos, I think I'm good 😁
Do you live in Charlotte because I live near there
Très belle voiture de drift

What is your opinion on the hpi Nissan 350z rtr? And is it worth buying to drift with?
+Elis Mendez I would skip the 50/50 touring cars with drift tires on them......there's much better alternatives now.
Great job!! Nice touch with sharpie! I was wondering how you got them black!! Good job! Keep'em coming
Thanks Jeff! My friend JP at my local shop gave me that idea. Thanks for watching
Rc car is really fun
I agree
I did mine with abs in my cheap 3d printer.
Nice!
Was it eazy?
If you have all the right tools....yes
This is interesting, since apparently there's no source for 83mm - 85mm drift tires
Yep, you just need to find the the right diameter pipe for your wheels
Can I do it with 1/8 buggy wheels for a 1/10 sct? I have adapters.
The Video is end but. U no show the made tyre
My car is a traxxas 1/16 slash 4x4 how can I make drift tires for that?
Just buy the HPI touring wheels and cut the ABS pipe in the video....They should bolt right on. I ran HPI wheels/tires on my 1/16th Traxxas Ken Block (same chassis as the Slash)
how to make it?
is it "pipe" covered already applied tyre?
This is for drifting - the ABS pipe is very hard and slick, causing an RC to slide easier on most surfaces
is it advisable to sakura d3 to 50/50 the weight? cause cant drift that well im using pro grip tire. i need an advice.
+jhun mmanalang I'm sure it's possible. I took a HPI Sprint 2 and turned into a CS car, so I'm sure the opposite is possible
+The RCNetwork Thanks bro...i put the battery at the normal place do i need a battery tray to balanced it? to put it at the top.
Is the 1:14 Electric Speed III Nissan Skyline GT-R RTR RC Drift Car a good car?
+ZiovanGamer Hax Not sure, never owned it....but being that it's 1/14th, is will be much harder to drift. 1/10th scale is hard enough! lol
The RCNetwork Oh /: i just ordered it...What a waste. Couldnt find a cheap car that's good. Thanks.
I want a drift rc which should I get on kinda tight budget

I have the same exact car, And I'm trying to make it drift as well, What is the width of the Charlotte Pipe?
1.5" Charlotte ABS pipe. I got it in a 2' length, so plenty for 5-6 sets of tires
Thanks! The tires work AMAZING!!! The video helped a ton.
Thanks for watching!

Tape is garbage especially when it will fly off with that much rpm, trust me terrible idea.
How to make it

how to make drift tires with stock tires just do burnouts on the concrete :]

how did they work?
They worked great....smelled like burning plastic though
Do they grip at all? Is it slick like pvc
They are slick and work better on non-polished concrete
