I don't know anything about guitar but "I Love Rock and Roll" is the easiest song on the video game Rock Band. It's what my 6-year-old daughter started out playing. If that means anything.

+ She's a top rock frontwoman. She is very expressive on stage. I'm a huge fan of J.J. but she isn't known for being a guitarist. You can't put her on the same list as Brian May, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Django Reinhard or Jimmy Page.
It's like Freddie Mercury even if he played guitar it would never cross the mind to put him in the list. When you see that there isn't a guitarist like the French Georges Brassens... but that there is Joan Jett... The guys we make the list are on drug.

Joan, as kick ass as she’s always been, is not, and has never been known for her guitar playing. She is a stellar front woman who plays mostly back up riffs while she sings, that’s it. Uncle Ted is right.

Joan is a song writer and rhythm guitar player who hires various people to play lead in her band. She is not a gun slinger by any stretch of the imagination. Ted is spot on. Seen them both many times, both are great entertainment but Ted and players like him are on a whole different level than Joan's capabilities.

She was waaaay better. She wrote much better songs too. I mean, she was a REAL rock star. I always thought there was something cartoonish about Joan Jett - a bit like those schlocky one-hit-wonder hair bands from LA. Looked good in the magazines, but didn't quite cut it musically.

Great comment! Best I've seen in awhile. There's so many talented guitarists that many have never heard of. Especially jazz. I know what I like. As do most people. So they're gonna be biased towards that. I like Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton or maybe Jeff Beck as my favorites. Maybe Peter Green. All talented but are they more talented than some fine Jazz players? Allan Holdsworth. Earl Klugh. Path Metheny. George Benson. Django Reinhardt? I like Joan Jett but neither her or Nugent are top 100. I have been a Joan Jett fan since I was a kid. She was much more influential to people, in my opinion. A lot of girls picked up guitars and learned to play because of Joan Jett. She kicked open the door for so many people. I still go see her perform every time she comes around (like today)! Cat Scratch Fever was one of the first songs I learned to play when I was a kid, but Ted Nugent has always been an asshole. I side with Joan Jett! She was a trend setter, writes great music & I think she's HOT!

It's unfortunate Nugent picked Jett to make a point.
As you said, it's not easy to include females on these things.
I would have used Poisin Ivy or those gals who played for Michael Jackson.
But their not as well known as Jett. So I probably would still put Joan in there.
Players who say they could do better just play along to a song.

Joan Jett just plays barre chords. Anyone playing the guitar for about a month can do what she does. I don't even think she knows what alternating picking is.
My buddy rescued her off the stage in Okinowa in the early 80s when the locals started rioting at the military base venue. He saw her like 20 years later and told her he was the guy and she said "Honey I really dont remember anything about those days" giggled and walked away.
