  • Chapter 57 - Effect of Capillary Rise of Water on Effective Stress
    Sometimes water molecules in soils travel in upward direction even against the gravitational forces. It happens because of a phenomenon called the capillarity or capillary effect. Capillary effect is the ability of a liquid to flow in narrow spaces without the assistance of external forces. This risen water is called capillary water.

    Big fan sir. Pls make video on compaction.......have a major doubt between zero air void line and line of optimus

    • @ashishkumarpatel734
      @ashishkumarpatel734 4 года назад +1

      Bro...
      If you put different values of water content in formula of theoretical maximum dry unit weight (S=100%)
      you will get zero air void line.
      It's significance is that no real compaction curve can intersect it or can be beyond it, as for real compaction at field max. saturation that can be achieved is 80 to 90 % only. Line of optimus is line joining maximum dry unit weight of compaction curves at different compaction energy.

    Your videos are really helpful and easy to understand.
    I have one doubt, that is -
    6:06 if capillary effect produces tension in soil then why we neglect the ignore the effect of capillarity as we increase soil depth? Do The soil above reference line posses no tension ? If it posses tension even we calculate at bottom then why not it's included?
