Love that this show taught chemistry too. Basil saying sodium chloride is followed by Dawson's line of "salt water" and bam. Kids learn chemistry. Kids look at Basil playing with chemistry, kids learn chemistry. That's really smart.

It depends on the kid watching and how well they understand the context.
I can remember watching this scene but not understanding a word Basil was saying even with Dawson's "salt water" line. So the fact that he was using chemistry never occurred to me until I rewatched this movie as an adult.
For me, Basil introduced me to the process of deduction. While I didn't understand what he was using, the fact that he knew what type of pen was used, what type of paper it was and that different alcohol could produce a different smell as well as the type of coal dust simply by looking and smelling help me understand how he knew where to find the seedy pub in the first place. His confidence and no second-guessing in what he saw was inspirational to understand "truths" which is needed in the process of deduction.
I guess I was more like Dawson then I realized when I was kid: not stupid by any means, but in awe of a new way to look at the world.

But only IF they get good writers, good voice actors, good artists, and good advertisement.
Of course respect the original movie by keeping it 2D animated for the most part, maybe add a bit of CGI for things.
