Blackie is that dude that keeps your interest by the way he draws attention to details that you otherwise would miss. I suppose the word im looking for is Experience. I like it when i say to myself "oh yeah thats smart". And i find myself saying that quite often whilst tuning in to blackie. His video on the M65 jacket for example pure insight. thanks blackie.🤠💫
The potato crisps, used as hash browns is an ingenious suggesstion. Had no idea that crisps could be substituted for hash browns. This simple suggestion opens a whole new horizons for, both camp, as well as home cookery. Many thanks Mr. Thomas. Stay well & safe. Cheers.❤❤
You are looking back to normal. Great quick meal. I do like hashbrowns more so if they are golden but that would require a skillet. I remember taking a class about 4 hours from home. Had to be there for a week. Stayed at a clean motel with a weekly rate that included a coupon for a breakfast every day at the restuarant. Two eggs, large helping of golden hashbrowns and toast plus a glass of orange juice. Everyone wanted sausage, bacon, pancakes or something else. This ol country boy had the free breakfast and was alert the whole morning when others were falling asleep at 10:00 in the morning. By the way tell Bear hibernation is over down there. 🤣
Wow Blackie, between you and Matt Mercer from Black hat buschcraft, you guys made cooking in the woods is fun!! Thank you so much!! Looking forward to watching your next adventure!! Strength and honor!! Be well!!👍🏽💯❤️ from Washington state 🇺🇸
Blackie, Great Video Thank You for sharing, always makes it easier and you always eat very well and looks very tasty. God Bless Y'all You and Mrs. Blackie.
Hi Blackie. I am a new subscriber. I am here on Scab’s suggestion to help out. I’m watching as much as I can and learning a lot! God bless you brother!
query have you tried other flavors of lay's chips? in particaluar thinking bbq with say hotdogs. or sour cream & onion as a potatoe agratin. now pringles has done up in the can mini doritios. easy too use for bag tacos or is it street tacos. 2 meals from a walmart can of diced ham... 1/2 can into couple eggs for ham & eggs- maybe add some cheese. next lunch or dinner the sour cream & oinion chips with the left over ham.. may need to add tsp / tblsp of milk / creamer. scallop taters with ham of augratin with ham. had a aunt who allways did up a 13 x 9 pan when we visited.
Yes I have and they can spice up the meal it all comes down to personal taste but bbq makes a good side dish to small game and sour cream and onion makes a good side to go with hamburger meals
Thanks for all the videos you do Blackie. I do learn a great deal from watching. I did purchase the book and military pouch you recently presented. I can tell that is a heavy duty lid by the sound it made as you moved it around. I heard you say that company is out of business. My question is, where can I find that lid in today's market? Thank you so much.
@BLACKIETHOMAS Any chance you would know the brand? Any info would be appreciated. I'm looking. If it was made someone has it somewhere. Thank you again
Blackie, I discovered those box of hashbrowns at Dollar General for $1! They are awesome and actually will feed several people! Besides your old BP revolver series this canteen cup cooking is my favorite i think! Lol Also, thanks for the info on the Knorr tomato and chicken cubes! Holy cow they are awesome!!
This is another meal I'll try for sure. Blackie , if you add some mayonnaise (not Miracle Whip) to the eggs it'll make them more fluffy and rich tasting. For the canteen cup I'd estimate between a teaspoon to a table spoon depending on your taste.
I've been doing lunches out of the 48oz pathfinder nesting cup, a little big, looking for a 32oz one, but been doing minute rice with homemade dehydrated deer burger, with brown gravy powder. Sometimes I add a Velveeta cheese pack. I also switch it up with spaghetti and powdered spaghetti sauce mix.
Do you have a good recommendation for where to find out about gatherings in advance? It seems like I hear about cool Bushcraft gathers and meet ups on youtube as people are packing, getting ready to go. With some planning I would love to try making it to some next year.
When you go to dollar tree to get your potato chips and hash browns, check the kitchen section. Mine has silicone spatulas and spoonulas that are good for canteen cups. They are about 7” by 2” inches 😊
A trick I learned from Alton Brown on Good Eats. I think it was a mans Breakfast episode If you want to use fresh potatoes for hashbrowns, look for a flat coarse cheese grater. Cut the potato in half. Leave the skin on and grate the potatoe into a handkerchief and squeeze out the excess water. Season and pan fry. I would wxpect new potoes would be a good option for canteen cups.
Love the canteen cooking course, thanks Blackie.
More to come!
Continued prayers for Blackie and his family for a speedy recovery.

Kettle Cooked chips and cheese make a good Au Gratin. Add some sausage and you’re full.
that's a great idea!
I wont ever look at a canteen cup the same way again. Great course.
It really opens up a new world of possibilities.
Thank you, Blackie!

you know your stuff! i often will add a little real mayonnaise to mine to make a egg salad of sorts

That's a great meal prep idea.
