I like using the vacuum sealed little packs of country ham. Shelf stable and works great for packing into the woods. I grew up with Granny frying strips of fatback in place of bacon as well, since we processed and cured our own pork off the farm.
Well, Blackie, this video was my favorite in the series because breakfast is my favorite meal. I gotta try making sausage gravy in the cup to pour over campfire biscuits.
If you put the eggs in a freezer bag you can cook them in the water and even add stuff for an omelette…then you even have hot water for your coffee.have fun stay safe.
Love this, Blackie! I was thinking about using the Real Bacon Bits (already crumbled & cooked) for a shelf stable option that would last for days in a pack. I use a STEEL pie pan for a plate when car camping & turn it upside down on the campfire when finished eating. Wipe out the ash. Clean and sterilized. Aluminum will melt doing the same.
i could have done it and i was going to but to be honest when i picked up the cozy the grits were still very hot and they had the bacon good and hot so there was no need to mix them
have a safe weekend everyone!
It looks like it all came together great! I do love some grits!! Take care brother.
Really been enjoying the canteen cooking series.

Same here and I miss that lifestyle
Seriously Blackie you need to combine all of these recipes in a Book form. I Guarantee you that it'd see out of the first run. 👍
I'd buy it.
I second that idea. It'd definitely find a place on my shelf
@Arcahnslight 👍
I was screaming in my mind…”BLACKIE!!!!! Cut the bacon open with your wicked new knife.” And then you did. 👍 I was highly satisfied.
I am glad you enjoyed it!
Me too. 😂
Never cared for grits, you can also use a diced up potato and cook it in the bacon grease. But like you said "you need to practice at home".
Excellent!
I worked in restaurants for many years. Its all about the order. Thanks Blackie
Very Nice ideas Blackie, now I would put a big chunk of Butter on my Grits,
You can do that!
I would use the piece of foil to make a plate. Simply add everything together on it and eat. Fascinating video.
Like that trick with the baggy . 👍
glad to help

Blackie, what are Grits please?
Grits are ground corn, a south east US staple. I’m a northerner and love them on a rare occasion.

Thanks. I’m in Australia and although I’ve heard about them but haven’t had it explained to me. I appreciate your kindness.
I asked the same, 13 minutes after you did. Also in Australia.
Guess we are both up early on a Saturday 😅@cordellkent4790
called polenta in europe if that helps
I am not from USA and have zero idea what grits are.
Might see if Amazon has it.
However if anyone wants to send me some... 😅😅
in europe they are called polenta
A cast-handle mess kit knife? Don't you DARE cut that puppy, Blackie! They're rarer than hens teeth, around here! 😮
Nice, but how about some cream of wheat mister!?
Next time! LOL UP NORTH YOU GUYS SURE LOVE THAT STUFF
@@BLACKIETHOMAS yessir! Lots of butter and sugar!
I swear I can smell bacon right now
funny how that happens
So you just made scrambled eggs! Just put the bacon in the egg mixture and cook it together....it's a lot easier and quicker.
A Proper serving of bacon!
but of course !!
I thought bacon went in with the eggs.
i could have done it and i was going to but to be honest when i picked up the cozy the grits were still very hot and they had the bacon good and hot so there was no need to mix them
Instant Grits? That's a sacrilege.
Take a plastic gallon milk carton. Cut out 2 sides. You now have 2 cutting boards. Lose one, no big deal.
That is a great idea, I’ll give it a try.
