Thank you so much for watching! Sorry about the wait between videos in this series but the next retrospective will be on Killzone Shadowfall as we conclude this series of retrospectives. But, I do have a question for you and that is, which Killzone is your favourite and why?
Will you be doing a retrospective on Killzone Mercenary, or the PSP Killzone? (I forget that ones name, and it’s also available on PS Vita through PSN digital) Would love to see one for those titles as well.
@@gregoryfoster6071 I won't be covering the portable games unfortunately, I've heard they're a good time but I don't have any experience with them personally.
The multiplayer in Killzone 3 was cool because whoever was doing best on the team would show up in cutscenes mid match. It would be cool if they remade these games. The multiplayer on mercenary was pretty cool too if you got an interrogation on an enemy it would reveal the rest of the enemy teams positions for a while
You reminded me of how much I miss this game. It was another of my favorites, definitely a series that needs a remaster at least. Loved how varied and action packed the gameplay was in 3.
edit: I really wish we would get a MCC style game for the Killzone series on ps5/pc. For me Killzone 3 is the better game, mainly as it finally added characters I enjoyed watching bicker. Admittedly this was for the villains and is helped tremendously by the voice actors they had in those roles. Brian Cox as Scolar Visari for the intro along with Ray Winstone as Admiral Orlock and Malcolm McDowell as Stahl really made those scenes stand out. It also helps that there is an internal civil war between them which then directly effects the core of the story. It isn't just there as fluff. Sadly they recast Stahl in Shadow Fall, and whilst I still enjoy that game it was a huge let down and the actor playing Stahl very much so comes across as someone doing a pretty good impersonation vs having the original actor back.
Killzone 3 was my first foray into the series, it was literally one of my first games tbh, so kind of have that nostalgic love that makes you ignore the flaws a bit more. Really good videos, looking forward to the Shadow Fall Retrospective!
I've never been a massive fan of Killzone even though I've played them all. I think it does a lot of things right and I love the look of it. The gritty setting as well as the darker story is something I can get behind and I quite like the 'heavy' feeling combat. And I have to admit just watching this video the game holds up well for being 9 years old in every department. I'm pretty sure my biggest problem is that I always preferred the Resistance series on Playstation and that I'm a Halo fanboy lol. Great retrospective as usual my friend! Thoroughly enjoyed :)
I totally understand that. I'm also a massive fan of both the Resistance and Halo series but I think Killzone definitely has its place. I have my issues with the games, mainly that they don't live up to their full potential in regards to the Helghast but they're a good time to play. I appreciate the support as always mate!
TBH I know KZ2 was supposed to compete with Halo as a system seller but I don't really see much similarity between the series. Star Wars: Republic Commando (an awesome game) had more of a Halo vibe than Killzone ever did. Killzone and Halo are both 1st party FPS games with a bit of sci-fi but imo the similarities end there.
I love to kill zone 3 MP so much that I still play bots zone to this very day. I played online with several friends back in the day and I miss that so much!
I feel like the killzone 3 story should have been about a helghast campaign, where you wipe out remaining ISA, after that a civil war breaks out between the politics where the game concludes on another attack on vekta. That is where shadow fall would be about the helghast attacking vekta once more, I think that would have been a better story in my opinion as visari said chaos has begin.
This was a great retrospective Mr. Mayor! As you can probably tell from my name and profile picture, I've always been a huge fan of the Killzone series. While I unfortunately wasn't able to experience the games when they first came out, I've been a fan for quite a long time. The art direction of the series alone was enough to get me hooked on the games, which I ended up loving. I must admit though, when I first played Killzone 3, it was almost immediately after I finished Killzone 2, which I thought was one of the greatest game experiences I've ever had (Still is, tbh). And unfortunately I ended up being pretty disappointed with Killzone 3 mostly due to it's change in tone and art direction that were drastically different from the first two games. That being said though, while I do disagree with some of your points such as Killzone 3 having a better story than Killzone 2 (Though I do agree that the political scenes of the Helghast were a definite highlight) I still had a fun time watching your review of this game and you've opened my eyes to a few positives of the game that I haven't thought about beforehand, so I still thought it was great! With all that said, I thoroughly enjoyed watching your interesting retrospective of one of my favorite game series of all time and I'm looking forward to seeing more videos from you in the future, best wishes kind sir!
I appreciate you taking the time to comment mate! I do understand peoples complaints and criticism's for Killzone 3, as I noticed them more this time around than before but, I just loved learning more about the Helghast and how often the game tried to mix in different gameplay mechanics. Again though, I do understand and everyone is going to see things differently but I'm glad that whilst you did disagree with me you still enjoyed the video itself! I'm excited to revisit Shadow Fall very soon but I do hope you enjoy your stay on the channel and best wishes to you friend 🙏
The option to disable the SixAxis functionality plus the aforementioned tweaks to the controls and gameplay variety give Killzone 3 a sharper edge for myself personally. Even though the multiplayer is dead nowadays, bot zone is still a blast.
I remember playing Killzone 3 when i was 10 on my dad's ps3 , sitting on our big sofa after school. Amazing game, except the part with the wheel. Took me forever to save up for a wireless controller
My boi back at it again with the great retrospective. Never even played the Killzone games at all but they've got one of the most recognisable enemy design in FPS. Good shit as always fam 🤘❤️
I appreciate the support fam! Whilst I do have my problems with the Killzone series, there is so much to like about this series and you're right the Helghast is so iconic! 😎
I always hated how Rico kept appearing through the entire game despite being the most unlikable character and never got ANY punishment for the bucket of stupid things his done. Haka was much more interesting and Natko more likeable.
Sony's IPs was at it's peek during PS3's generation, They had Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted, Last of us, Infamous and many more, sadly most of them didn't cross that generation.
Is funny how the antagonists are way more interesting than the protagonists. I wish Guerrila had the balls to make a game where the Helghast win. But we all know they won't because of what inspired the Helghast (Nazis) and with the stupidity of political correctness It would be bashed
I agree, the Helghast are just so much more intriguing. I wish we could see a game in this series that let us play as them it would up the story potential dramatically.
Has a brick recently fallen on your head? What does anyone of that mean. The moment a women appears in any piece of media it instantly becomes politically charged
Great retrospective. Sorry don't really have an interesting comment to put lol. I wanted to enjoy these games but fell out of love with FPS games around that time and never went back to play them when I got the PS3 late in its life. And with the PS4 I played destiny and that satisfied my FPS itch.
If they do another one it has to be in the vein of KZ2 for overall attention to detail and atmosphere, but also 3 in terms of set pieces. Shadow fall looked and played mostly terrific and had a great soundtrack on the Helghast side especially, but while the story made efforts to be darker and a more serious tone it fell flat due to pacing and poor characterization. Basically the approach to game progression and story needs a drastic overhaul. Basically the God of War treatment but grittier. Show a much more personal side to the Helghast and their suffering, and expand the game design into a wide linear style with bar raising gun fights.
@@MayorHairBear Thanks for the upload btw. I have been really nostalgic about the Killzone series lately. So much so that I played some botzone matches tonight in both KZ2 and KZ3.
@@KBWrecker No worries at all mate. I've been a fan of the series since the original and saw RUclips was lacking some Killzone content so I figured it was about time I revisit them!
I loved it as much as kz2. The ps controls are rubbish and real pain coming from mouse but it’s so much better and easier using motion controllers. Wish someone ported it for 60 FPS.
I played through Carrion, had a lot of fun with it but just don't have the time to make a video about it unfortunately. Crysis is a series I'm very interested in covering though
I'm surprised that people prefer KZ3's multiplayer to KZ2. It felt really dumbed down with the static spawn locations instead of squad leader and beacon spawn points. That plus the linear map design led to a lot more spawn trapping imo. The abilities were an improvement but the sniper was op and the random bots meant less players per match. The main thing I hated with the sequel was how CODified it felt with the weight removed, ADS and the awful GUI. There was always icons on screen reminding you to reload or points gained for a kill. It completely ruined the immersion and cluttered the screen, which was a horrible design choice. I'm still salty that Killzone never recovered that uniqueness of 2. All they had to do was improve the framerate, remove the input lag and add a bit more colour and maybe dial the weight back a bit and it would have been a worthy sequel!
I think people with Killzone 3 remember more the new game mode with the intro cut scenes featuring the players and the moving objectives. That is where Killzone 3's mp shined.

If they weren't making that chick flick game called horizon. I bet they still wouldn't be able to make the games because of modern political agendas
