How so? You guys are stupid and are a part of the problem, one of them that is. Another problem is you don't understand the problem. A phone calls people. The internet and society is the issue. But you'd never admit to being part of the problem so you're good right?
I don’t know, I’ve seen a family restaurant suddenly get business bc the daughter posted a video of her mom sitting alone waiting for customers; some now-famous musicians used the app to gain an audience. Well, yes but... society needs to play a part too. Kids aren't always with their parents, and communities play a role in raising your children as well. That's why things like smoking, alcohol, and so on are also illegal, or why schools are compulsory, even though technically you can make the same argument that a parent should be responsible for that too.
@@darkwoodmoviesYes, but access to phones etc is something which a parent should control. On other hand, even if you as a parent do control personal access, you won't be able to stop your child from coming into contact with it at schools or other children who do see it.

The problem isn’t in the individual, it’s in society. A parent can easily prevent their kid from having a phone and watching tik tok. Very solid statement from the CEO, but all the parents who let their kids use this app are responsible for that as well! A kid shouldn’t be on this app, I couldn’t imagine the damage I would have when I would grow up as a child and be on tiktok
It's one thing to deny your kid a smartphone (they could still make perfect use of a regular cellphone to make calls and text), which could effectively hinder them access to the brian demage app at home. But parents cannot control what their children are being exposed to outside the home, when they are attending school, or hanging out with friends, or engaging in their extracurricular activities. There will still be exposure to the brіan demage app through a third party, as long as it remains publicly accessible.

I also give them additional screen time if they can show me something educational or useful they have seen. This incentivizes them to watch more than just inane content and it works. Ultimately, parents shouldn't be expecting private companies to do the parenting for them or expect the government to ban all the new techie stuff they don't understand or dislike. That's not going to work in the era of technology.
I see where you’re coming from, but I dislike the idea that rewards and punishments are needs to guide children’s education. I believe that unless the outcome is fatal or life changing, one should just let kids be wrong and embrace the consequences. If I watch educational documentaries for the sake of reporting to parents in exchange for screen time, then it’s like a bounty rather than a self motivated cause. Same for punishments. If kids like inappropriate vids, they’ll find ways to get around the grey areas of punishment. They should realise from the bottom of their heart that good things are good and bad things are bad.

You are correct that all of those other platforms collect data and share it with advertisers. The issue here is that under the Chinese communist law, TikTok is required to provide American useer data to the Chinese communist government. Let’s face it we are in an adversarial relationship with that country, and that country has no free-speech, restricts human rights and is bent on global dominance Affectively they are now our enemy so the distinction is he is required by the Chinese government to provide American end user data if requested. There are several examples reported in the media of this exact situation happening. If we let our paranoid, fantasies, roam, having that kind of information on the children of leader ship of US military personnel, for instance and GPS data on military personnel might be a bad thing. Allowing Russian propaganda which I have seen to be filtered into American feeds probably not a good thing and there really is no age restriction on TikTok. I like many Americans became addicted because I’m a music fan and I saw immediately a whole bunch of exciting music stuff on there but I also saw a lot of brain damaging BS, so overall, we need a broad global data data privacy protection law that impacts not only TikTok, but all of the media platforms they will have to find some other way to monetize their platforms
Let’s not forget these apps will still track your child’s development based on their app usage. Sure, the company says that you, as the parent, have the freedom to choose what your children have in the way of electronics and app usage, but the social media platforms will always be the middleman between you and your child’s app usage, which they gladly assume.

I have 2 kids, 7yo and 10yo. I monitor their Tiktok usage with the family pairing tool and restrict them to 1 hr screen time on weekdays, and more on weekends -- subject to whether they have been on their best behavior. That's not going to work in the era of technology.
tiktok is spyware owned by the chinese communist party. No one should be using that app

I would also like to point out That Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and meta all do the same thing as TikTok which is collect data on users etc and these apps are used worldwide so why is TikTok an issue is it because it's not owned by America or is it because TikTok is picking and choosing content appropriate for specific countries
Because it is not owned by American .
@@kidsli2121 yes
Because is sending data to CCP. That’s it. America is not in good terms with CCP and I as chinese support the ban.
They did criticize these companies for the same. Meta is all of Facebook and Instagram + more. Twitter was also attacked on this issue too.
We've seen a generation (at least in my country) get addicted to vapes because the government slept on action while the tobacco companies pivoted and sold candy flavoured vapes to children. And what about the uneducated parents who doesn’t know what TikTok is? There’s a large percentage of minorities that doesn’t have the basic understanding of what these TikTok/social media do. This is where we need the Government to help regulate certain criteria.
boils down to responsibilities that come with 'freedom'. if cannot accept the responsibility for whatever reason, then regulate it via app. in china, tik tok is limited to an hour a day use for under 18. the same regulations apply to many of its social media apps. yes, its not a free market situation for enterprises there. they faced the reality that parents will not be able to monitor their kids activities for whatever the reasons. the administration there gives a lending hand to parents through regulations towards kids safety.
