I think Magna guards are the best. They don't tire, can keep fighting with their head cut off, and they were able to contend Obi wan and Anakin, 2 of the best duelists in the galaxy for a short while, and even Obi wan knew he couldn't defeat 4 of them so he had to try to drop the thing on them. While the praetorian guards lost 8 to 2 to people who are nowhere near on obi-wan and Anakin's level.
What is with the Imperial Shadow Guards? That where chosed from the best of the Royal Guard equiped with lightsaberpikes and having a basic understanding and basic training in the Dark side of the force like force pusch, force choke and force lightning
Only when considering the movies. In TCW, 3 magnaguards were defeated by Ahsoka, who was just barely a padawan at the time (though a very difficult fight for her). Nadaar, a regular Jedi Knight, defeated at least two (can't remember if he beat more), In other episodes Anakin defeated 4 and Kenobi beat 2 while fighting Grievous at the same time. The ones on Grievous's ship may have been the exception, not the norm. Though they are still very powerful for droids/non-force warriors. Praetorians, while lacking in background details, are stated to be intended to face Luke Skywalker alongside Snoke once they found him (also alongside Kylo Ren likely). They would serve as the physical combatants to match his lightsaber while Snoke provided the Force power. We also know that their armor and weapons are extremely powerful. It's not entirely known what Kylo's skill level is, as the only time we've seen him fighting in top condition is against the praetorians anyways, but he is stated by Snoke to rival Darth Vader (though loosely), his natural strength in the Force clearly matches that of Luke or Vader, and he played a major part in wiping out Luke's Jedi. Rey is also a rival in terms of sheer power but is self taught in combat. Self teaching can be fickle and has its own strengths and weaknesses. It shows with Rey barely surviving that battle, but she got lucky and only fought one at a time while Kylo faced 4 at the same time and they had him surrounded (he also killed 2 at the very start of the fight). Point is, Had they swapped places, Rey would probably die if Kylo couldn't finish the other 2 quickly enough, and if either were alone, they would definitely have died because almost did in their respective halves of the fight as it is.. While not perfect, this should give an idea of strength for the praetorians. Oh, and to address the royal red guards, we saw Ezra (an above average force wielder but normal padawan otherwise) defeat 3 plus some stormtroopers with some difficulty. Though this was after this video came out. This isn't really meant to steer you one way or the other, I just wanted to provide some info to help compare them. Though personally, I'm inclined to agree with Eck's choices on this one, magnaguards can be inconsistent. Way I see it, praetorians are the best, but there's only 8 of them as far as we can tell, while red guards and magnaguards vary in skill, and only occasionally equal one praetorian, but there's also more of them. to make up for that.

Don't under estimate rey's force capabilities. She is the strongest force user in the entire Star Wars galaxy. So powerful that she can make weapons vanish into thin air and get the advantage.
The Pretorian guard isn’t the best, I would have chosen the Magna Guards because they actually could accomplish a mission and defeated anakin with a little help of dooku and their weapons don’t disappear randomly in a fight
I believe the IG-100 Magnaguards should be at the top. They were durable, well programmed and skilled at using weaponry. My opinion is that in a one on one they would outlast basically any other member on this list. Also, magnaguards had a track record of contending with trained Jedi in one to one or two to one situations. It was 4 praetorians to one force user, one trained, the other... really not. And they still lost, only inflicting minor wounds.
The imperial guards were able to kill jedi they had more power than you think and they even were trained with the force ,so they could withstand it but not use it
I think the same although i still believe the imperial gaurds take the number 1 spot, if you get 50+ of the best fighters the empire can find, windle them down to either 4 or 2 amd make them fight to the death. Aswell as the fact that the force sensitive ones could easily take out a jedi knight just makes them no. 1 for me
The imperial guards that yoda defeated were not real guards, and they had not taken any special training. They were chosen purely down to their loyalty to Palpatine, since the empire had just started.

I think the Magnaguards are the best. They can take the most the hits and several times they fight Annakin in 2 agianst 1 fights and come close to winning. And since they are usually shown in sets of 2 or 4 and have better communication, Since they can basically red each other's minds. They also are a lot stronger than organics and can take a lot more hits. And due to them being able to share training due to the fact they are droids, If one is skilled with a weapon, All of them can be skilled with that weapon via a simple data transfer. Plus they are far more likely to come out of combat alive. Even if you cut it's head and limbs off it will keep going. And it keeps the most sensitive parts(The brain) In the most armored location. They also can have more armor and still be able to freely move due to them not having squishy innards. In the clone wars they have been shown to be able to kill Jedi masters when they are in groups of 4. And if they were in groups of 6 or 8 like the guards of the empire and first order, They would be a lot more powerful. Just my opinion. Good video.
Praetorian Guards were able to take more hits because they've proven to be able to withstand a lightsaber thrust just with their own armour, it also took about 5 lightsaber blasts to fully take down a unarmed Praetorian guard. That's all I'm gonna write because I don't have the spare time to write a essay for all the other reasons like you did.
@N they lost to a gal who has only been using a lightsaber for 2 days, attacked their new master under dark sider rule, failed to notice the rotating lightsaber at all and they’re supposed to be good? They are so useless they almost make battle droids look intelligent, heavy emphasis on almost.
8:34 @EckhartsLadder, i would like to correct that, the Red Guards we see in Episode 3 are actually just normal senate guards but just in different clothes. The Imperial Royal Guard came to service only after when Sidious transformed the Galactic Republic to the Galatic Empire. And after it was transformed, it have just started to recruit the best cadets of the Imperial Academy to be Imperial Guards. As such, the Red Guards we see Yoda killing are actually just Senate Guards in some red clothes that are solely loyal to Sidious.
The Royal Guards actually have deceptivly good armor so good actually that they are easily the best on this list! The reason they don't look like they have good armor is because it is PURPOSFULY consealed by their cloak so people like you would completely underestimate it so its makes battle even easier BTW I really like your channel and am subbed but this is the one video I completely disagree with.
The Noghri are quite obviously the best bodyguards in the galaxy. They are fiercely loyal and I've never known one to... betray its leader. (Side note: Two videos in one day?! Is this a late Christmas gift?)
There were a few canon comics where a single imperial guard held off an entire army, even able to shoot a tie fighter pilot in the heart mid-flight with a blaster pistol.

Just curious, it would take over 8 Praetorian guards to take down Kylo and Rey, but Obi-Wan had difficulty dispatching just one Magna Guard droid? I would put the IG-1000 higher than the Praetorian on just that alone! Droids aren't influenced by emotions, distractions, or hesitation. They can also move a lot faster and be subjected to greater forces than a biological body like a human would. They are also more effective at combat after suffering limb loss than most biological creatures would, as well. They can probably have better coordination than living beings could and can even fight while walking on walls, ceilings, and slippery surfaces. Seriously, meatbags, even with force abilities, are not that much superior.

IG-100s should take the top spot imo. We haven’t seen enough of them honestly they’re both the best battle droids available and they’re incredibly fun to watch in everything they’re involved with
I'd give the IG-100's first. The First Order guards (not gonna try and spell the name) had an 8-2 advantage and still lost, albeit narrowly, while one of their opponents had practically no lightsaber combat experience. The IG-100's could fight Jedi and win with a 2-1 advantage during a time where the Jedi were better at fighting than they had been in centuries due to war. It's simple logic. IG's beat fully trained Jedi with a 2-1 advantage, while First Order guards loose with a 4-1 advantage. Rey and Kylo might be very powerful in the force, but they are not fully trained. Kylo might trained, but clearly not to the same level as Jedi were, as while he may have been injured, he still lost to someone who had never fought with a lightsaber before. There may have been time to train a bit more between TFA and TLJ, but that's still minimal.

@David Rungger Their weapon could be set to different shock variations, from a simple stun to a deadly shock. They could also use it to fire electric projectiles.

Scrapping with a stick against desert scavengers trying to steal from you is not at all different to lightsaber combat with 8 (supposedly) highly-trained elite combatants, all trying to kill you outright. Not to mention with choreography so poorly thought out, it's a wonder it ever made it into the film. These guards could've been really fucking cool. Instead, you get a really, really shit fight scene (even if you like it, it is an objectively poorly thought out and executed fight scene) with two people who should not do nearly as well as they do. This could've been the moment when Rey and Kylo get crushed and have to run from the fight, both of them barely escaping after assassinating Snoke. It could've given us some stakes. But instead, Snoke dies in anticlimactic fashion, Rey and Kylo kill every single guard, and the Rey just straight up disappears from the throne room after they destroy Luke's lightsaber. Granted, even if the fight scene was handled flawlessly, that doesn't excuse the rest of the film. Or any of the other movies Disney has pumped out.
Praetorian guards may have better armour than previous troop, but kylo and Rey are no where near as trained or deadly as the Jedi during clones wars.....

Thyre Radim no they where the first red guards but they where just glorified senate commandos. Their wasn’t no royal guards to defend the emperor because none where trained, so he just took senate commandos and gave them the position of royal guard until he had better options.
One underrated advantage for the Elite Praetorian Guard: they seem to work together well. We see them come to one another's defence, with one who had been disarmed taking a blow from Kylo to protect his fellow, who still had a weapon.
He would probably do experiments on him to try to give him force powers. There were a few ancient Sith Artifacts that could do this, but I'm not sure if Palpatine had his hands on any.
I still think the Royal guards are more powerful. Think about it, One royal guard stopped and forced an entire division of stormtroopers to retreat not mentioning the fact that they were trained by Vader himself. Praetorians lost to some scrubs in a pretty dumb way as well.

My guards are personally trained to fight well trained Jedi knights and masters. The Praetorians lost to some untrained peasant girl who got lost in a supermarket and a moody Darth Vader fanboy who was trying to impress her.
You know...in all seriousness the Magnaguards do have the most impressive track record of any elite guard corps in Star Wars while the Praetorian guards technically have the most humiliatingly worst.

Magnaguards *and Droidekas, even if they weren't in the video. Droidekas (and Battlefront 2, the original) single-handily made me love the CIS. If you account for the ability to deploy them in greater numbers than any of the other options, Magnaguards would definitely win this.
The Confederate Magna-Guards were unmatched in strength, prowess, durability, and loyalty, even able to survive a Lightsaber attack, and match a Jedi in terms of skill and power. I use them myself.

I feel that the magna guard should be in second place. The can use most weapons effectively. They can also take down jedi. While I don't think they beat the pretorian guard is a 1v1 fight I do think that if they were to go up against kylo and rey that they would last just as long (or if not longer) than the pretorian guard
but magna guards almost beat obi wan and anakin and we know they are much better than kylo and rey so logically the magna guards would kill/capture rey and kylo.
I think that 8 magna guards vs Kylo and Rey would absolutely destroy them. Only 2 kept Obi wan and Anakin busy for a while imagine what 8 together could do. I specify 8 because I believe that's how many praetorian guards were fighting Kylo and Rey.
1&2) Imperial or Magna. Both could operate competently outside of what they were meant for. 3) Senate Guard. Ultimately a semi-law enforcement and investigative agency that constantly found itself having to deal with well armed and well coordinated threats, sometimes straight up military threats. 4) Praetorian Guard. The Praetorian Guard was *specifically* trained to deal with lightsaber armed combatants, and lost a fight in a 4-to-1 engagement between a somewhat OK combatant and one whose lightsaber training couldn't have amounted to more than a few weeks worth. Put simply, the Praetorian Guards are EOD techs that can't diffuse bombs.
The most versatile are the Droid magnaguards, they can fight hand to hand,use malee weapons, blasters and pilot fighters.But at the normal role the first order guards are the most useful and awesome.
What about the fact that two magnaguards put up a serious fight against Anakin and Obi-Wan? While 8 of the praetorian guards couldn't defeat rey and Kylo. Even though both Rey and Kylo are powerful, they are not even close to as powerful as Anakin or Obi-Wan.
Wel,l Obi Wan and Anakin killed them in like 20 seconds while it took Rey and Kylo about 5 minutes to succeed. Also Rey and Kylo almost died multiple times while Obi and Ani didn't seem to struggle at all
GENERAL GRIEVOUS to be fair anakin and obiwan didn’t seem to be struggling nearly as much as rey and Kylo. If I remember right, anakin and obiwan never got hit and dealt with them with relative ease. Rey and kylo were struggling much more, likely due to them being not nearly as skilled as anakin and obiwan

People complain about not knowing more about Snoke but conveniently ignore the way the original trilogy was just as vague regarding palpatine. People who hated TLJ should remember that a lot of people disliked ESB at the time. As for the hyperspace ram y'all are just pisssed off because you hadn't noticed the biggest plothole in the majority of Sci-fi (if we can go superliminal why not just ram/teleport an empty ship into the enemy) It makes sense from a tech perspective as well, the Empire had large interdictors to stop hyperspace travel, both in fleets and on the death star the First Order probably dropped them, following the implementation of active hyperspace tracking. (Also turns out the bombers were pushing the bombs out with magnets and the juggernaut would have deployed fighters earlier if not for Admiral Hux's arrogance. The majority of Star War's point defence only seems to work at medium range)

Idk. Imperial Guards fought against Darth Vader and protected the Emperor, Magnaguards were trained by and protected Grievous. There is a big difference in what they were trusted to do, which I think speaks to their abilities.
Cody Orvik yea but you have to take i to account the difference in their training and equipment, force pikes wouldnt be able to penetrate the IG-100 due to them being made of metal and even if they could the guards have two motivators so it could keep fighting, also the magnaguards have electrostaffs.
So could a Imperial Guard, your point? The standard Magna guard is going to bring a electrostaff into a fight, an Imperial Guard is going to have a heavy blaster under his cloak, so that immediately gives them an edge.
I think you're really underestimating the Magna Guards. I can't see 8 of them working together losing to 2 force users, even ones as powerful as Kylo and Rey. Just 2 of them did pretty well against Obi-Wan and Anakin.
Good point, but I'm pretty sure there's a Clone Wars episode where Obi Wan or somebody takes on several of them at once. Although, admittedly he is Obi Wan, and much more skilled than Rey and Ren anyway.
Chris Smith another point is it probably wouldn't be just 8 of them because I'm willing to bet you'd get more droids than guards with the same time and resources.
There's a difference between winning and barely winning. The fight in TLJ was really close. I could easily see Rey and Ren dying as a possible outcome. With Magnaguards, Anakin and Obi-Wan didn't have much trouble with them. Hell in TCW either one could kill a Magnaguard in just a few seconds. They are by no means weak, but a Magnaguard does not beat a Praetorian (although Magnaguards are way more efficient cause there's more than 8 of them in the whole galaxy and can be built rather than trained for years). You can't go off of "A beats B, so A must also beat C" in Star Wars, there are just too many factors involved in SW fights (hence why some people are STILL analyzing lightsaber duels in the movies).

You say that you could see Rey and Kylo losing to the Praetorians, I on the other hand can't see Rey and Kylo WINNING a fight against 8 Magna Guard. Daniel Lien the problem with the empire is that although they have huge fleet they won't gather hundreds of them because it would make their own system rebel, also what is easier to do strike any shipyard or destroy death star sized space station protected by huge fleet and shield that is able to destroy whole fleets, probably the first strike force empire would send would just be destroyed by the shield and knowing how good empire officers are probably few other fleets would be also destroyed before they would find out why their fleets crush on rakata prime
The two guards yoda threw against the wall were not imperial guards they we red guard which were not trained anywhere near as well as the imperial guards and were chosen mainly because of their loyalty to palpatine
Honestly I do love the variety of weapons used by Snoke's praetorian guard, and I feel like they would've been far more formidable if the plot hadn't demanded that Rey auto-win with no actual advantage

Idea for a topic video, why imperial and first order star destroyers are portrayed as weaker than they should be in the movies, eg in rogue one, when the imperial 1 is disabled you can see all of its main turbo battery’s are all in their resting positions meaning they arnt in use, why would they take it easy? In rogue one you have to remember that it was an infiltration team sent to the planet this can later be seen once the explosions happen while this happens you notice all the officers are in shock and stunned to react this can also be shown in the star destroyers for one they like the officers in the tower were not expecting an attack let alone a fleet jumping on top of them most of them would be in shock to react even when being pushed together by the hammerhead you can later see this in the technicians reactions when they were dying there was complete shock and confusion

You hopefully do not really think that George Lucas meant to be them something different. If he wanted them to be something different, they would look different, so people could understand they are different. They looked the same, so they are intended to be the same.
IMO the Magnaguards were the best, and only downgraded to be "never as good as organics" just so the Clone Wars could be concluded as they were. I'm sure a Magnaguard, with enough training and experience could go toe to toe against a Jedi Knight or even a Master. The ones we saw, were only as good as an experienced Padawan; as experienced as Anakin when he was a Padawan.
I feel as tho the magnaguards should be #1. These guys were capable of killing average Jedi knights in 1 on 1. The Praetorian guards got beaten by practically 1 sith apprentice (rey did almost nothing but distract a few). If any of the guards to fight eachother my money would be on the magnaguards
The magna guards were not competant opponents. They just lasted slightly longer than other droids. Anikin and obi wan didn't really struggle with them. Its just they were surprised they didnt die when decapitated
Soldier_76 anakin and obiwan are both master lvl Jedi, not many people could fight and survive that lvl of skill competently. I doubt any of the other guards could do a better or worse job. Ide like to see 8 Praetorian guards fight general grievous and win.
By EpIII, the magna guards were no secret to Obi-Wan and Anakin who had experience against them. Watch the Clone Wars last episodes where a whole team of Jedi get hunted down by a squad of Magna guards.
Look at the TCW episode "Lair of Grievous", it shows a standard Jedi Knight beat several Magnaguards. No Magnaguard can kill a jedi 1 on 1 (except maybe against a youngling or something). Don't get me wrong, I think Magnaguards should be 2nd place due to their shear numbers compared to their skill. They are extremely efficient I feel, but they wouldn't beat a Praetorian Guard. I should also mention that just because the Praetorians lost to Rey and Kylo, does not mean they're weak. Rey is the second coming of Anakin, Kylo is the successor to Darth Vader, and both have an extremely strong connection with each other. Rey and Kylo barely scraped by in that fight too. They may have won, but it was close.

Like I said, probably wrong but I just remember hearing that somewhere. Not that I think they would have stood a chance against Yoda, I'm just curious.

No. I meant definitionally, as in the definition of a guard is to protect someone else from harm. Chancellor Palpatine never was harmed under their watch, so definitionally they were the most effective.
I don’t quite see how Snoke’s guards have better weapons when Palpatine’s guards have both close and long range combat. I will grant you Snoke’s boys seem to have better close range weapons, but Palpatine’s guards do carry heavy blaster pistols on their person and there was one instance of a guard dual wielding his vibro weapon with his heavy pistol. Not to mention that one Royal guard went on to singlehandedly turning the tide of an entire battle. Honestly I think if it came to it, that Palpatine’s guards would kill Snoke’s guards

And the opposing Imperial commander was scared shitless when he learned a Royal Guard had entered the battle. The guard even shot down a Tie Interceptor that tried to gun him down by shooting the pilot through the transparasteel with his heavy blaster. Snoke’s Royal guards have some interesting weapons, I will admit, but if their fight against Rey and Kylo is any indication, their training leaves much to be desired

Darth_Traitor I have looked at those factors and here is what I’ve learned, both guards were trained in a variety of hand to hand combat styles, including Echani martial arts. Both have high quality armor, though I haven’t found anything that states the armor of the Praetorian guards can deflect blasters (if you have a source I’d appreciate that) and the only part of the armor that seems to be lightsaber resistant are the gauntlets/vambraces since one of the guards did stop a strike from Kylo with them. However, the rest of the armor seems to be plastoid like other Stormtrooper armors and thus has no resistance to lightsabers. Snoke’s guards seem trained exclusively for melee combat, and probably just with the weapons we see them wielding. Palpatine’s guards on the other hand are trained in a wider range of both common and exotic weapons from blasters, to force pikes, to Vibroblades, to arc casters, to even lightsaber pikes, meaning they have far more options and ways to defend their Emperor. And seeing as Snoke’s guards don’t seem to have Force powers, I Do think that in a one on one fight, Palpatine’s royal guard would defeat Snoke’s guard. Palpatine’s guards clearly have the better training and frankly the better performance record. If Rey can kill these guys when her skills can’t be anywhere near what you’d expect for a royal guard, then that doesn’t bode well for Snoke’s guys.

Second, of course we saw imperial guards do more, praetorian guards are new (although your source is legends which is non canon idiot). Rey and kylo are one of the most powerfull canon force users we’ve seen so far so of course they won ( akthough snokes guards almost killed them both). Sheevs guards just have nothing they can hurt snokes guards with (even if they had better training than snokes which they dont). And yes they did have more options to defend the emperor with but the point is they basically never did xD. My final point: its ok you prefer imperial guards more theyre really cool but you shouldn’t let your inner fanboy blind you.
I think the MagnaGuards should be at the top, we've seen them in actions before and know that they're extremely effective (Republic Commando, truly a pain in the ass), they were also specifically trained to fight jedi 1 on 1, that already put them miles ahead of the Praetorian guards and Grievous see them as almost equal to his old Kaleesh elites, and that really means something
I would say that the imperial guards should take the number one shot if your using their legends counter part. With one being able to turn the tide of entire battles. Also the two guards rag dolled by yoda in revenge of the sith were the red guard picked mainly for their loyalty to allow the emperor to attend to his alter ego more easily with having one of the senate guards reporting him since they would have protected him other wise. Also the senate guards just seem to be extremely incompetent. Struggling to keep infiltrators outside their ranks, being susceptible to force dominate (mind control) & pretty susceptible to corruption. Lastly the praetorian guards they must be force sensitive since half of the helmets are seem to be completely sealed.
It's because Disney is so unimaginative that they have to steal a guards name from ancient Roman history to somehow fit into a sci fi futuristic franchise.

I think Magna guards are the best. They don't tire, can keep fighting with their head cut off, and they were able to contend Obi wan and Anakin, 2 of the best duelists in the galaxy for a short while, and even Obi wan knew he couldn't defeat 4 of them so he had to try to drop the thing on them. While the praetorian guards lost 8 to 2 to people who are nowhere near on obi-wan and Anakin's level.

Only when considering the movies. In TCW, 3 magnaguards were defeated by Ahsoka, who was just barely a padawan at the time (though a very difficult fight for her). Nadaar, a regular Jedi Knight, defeated at least two (can't remember if he beat more), In other episodes Anakin defeated 4 and Kenobi beat 2 while fighting Grievous at the same time. The ones on Grievous's ship may have been the exception, not the norm. Though they are still very powerful for droids/non-force warriors.
Praetorians, while lacking in background details, are stated to be intended to face Luke Skywalker alongside Snoke once they found him (also alongside Kylo Ren likely). They would serve as the physical combatants to match his lightsaber while Snoke provided the Force power. We also know that their armor and weapons are extremely powerful. It's not entirely known what Kylo's skill level is, as the only time we've seen him fighting in top condition is against the praetorians anyways, but he is stated by Snoke to rival Darth Vader (though loosely), his natural strength in the Force clearly matches that of Luke or Vader, and he played a major part in wiping out Luke's Jedi. Rey is also a rival in terms of sheer power but is self taught in combat. Self teaching can be fickle and has its own strengths and weaknesses. It shows with Rey barely surviving that battle, but she got lucky and only fought one at a time while Kylo faced 4 at the same time and they had him surrounded (he also killed 2 at the very start of the fight). Point is, Had they swapped places, Rey would probably die if Kylo couldn't finish the other 2 quickly enough, and if either were alone, they would definitely have died because almost did in their respective halves of the fight as it is.. While not perfect, this should give an idea of strength for the praetorians.
Oh, and to address the royal red guards, we saw Ezra (an above average force wielder but normal padawan otherwise) defeat 3 plus some stormtroopers with some difficulty. Though this was after this video came out.
This isn't really meant to steer you one way or the other, I just wanted to provide some info to help compare them. Though personally, I'm inclined to agree with Eck's choices on this one, magnaguards can be inconsistent. Way I see it, praetorians are the best, but there's only 8 of them as far as we can tell, while red guards and magnaguards vary in skill, and only occasionally equal one praetorian, but there's also more of them. to make up for that.

I believe the IG-100 Magnaguards should be at the top.
They were durable, well programmed and skilled at using weaponry.
My opinion is that in a one on one they would outlast basically any other member on this list.
Also, magnaguards had a track record of contending with trained Jedi in one to one or two to one situations.
It was 4 praetorians to one force user, one trained, the other... really not. And they still lost, only inflicting minor wounds.

I think the Magnaguards are the best. They can take the most the hits and several times they fight Annakin in 2 agianst 1 fights and come close to winning. And since they are usually shown in sets of 2 or 4 and have better communication, Since they can basically red each other's minds. They also are a lot stronger than organics and can take a lot more hits. And due to them being able to share training due to the fact they are droids, If one is skilled with a weapon, All of them can be skilled with that weapon via a simple data transfer. Plus they are far more likely to come out of combat alive. Even if you cut it's head and limbs off it will keep going. And it keeps the most sensitive parts(The brain) In the most armored location. They also can have more armor and still be able to freely move due to them not having squishy innards. In the clone wars they have been shown to be able to kill Jedi masters when they are in groups of 4. And if they were in groups of 6 or 8 like the guards of the empire and first order, They would be a lot more powerful.

Praetorian Guards were able to take more hits because they've proven to be able to withstand a lightsaber thrust just with their own armour, it also took about 5 lightsaber blasts to fully take down a unarmed Praetorian guard. @EckhartsLadder, i would like to correct that, the Red Guards we see in Episode 3 are actually just normal senate guards but just in different clothes. The Imperial Royal Guard came to service only after when Sidious transformed the Galactic Republic to the Galatic Empire. And after it was transformed, it have just started to recruit the best cadets of the Imperial Academy to be Imperial Guards. As such, the Red Guards we see Yoda killing are actually just Senate Guards in some red clothes that are solely loyal to Sidious.

Just curious, it would take over 8 Praetorian guards to take down Kylo and Rey, but Obi-Wan had difficulty dispatching just one Magna Guard droid? I would put the IG-1000 higher than the Praetorian on just that alone! Droids aren't influenced by emotions, distractions, or hesitation. They can also move a lot faster and be subjected to greater forces than a biological body like a human would. They are also more effective at combat after suffering limb loss than most biological creatures would, as well. They can probably have better coordination than living beings could and can even fight while walking on walls, ceilings, and slippery surfaces. Seriously, meatbags, even with force abilities, are not that much superior.

I'd give the IG-100's first. The First Order guards (not gonna try and spell the name) had an 8-2 advantage and still lost, albeit narrowly, while one of their opponents had practically no lightsaber combat experience. The IG-100's could fight Jedi and win with a 2-1 advantage during a time where the Jedi were better at fighting than they had been in centuries due to war. It's simple logic. IG's beat fully trained Jedi with a 2-1 advantage, while First Order guards loose with a 4-1 advantage. Rey and Kylo might be very powerful in the force, but they are not fully trained. Kylo might trained, but clearly not to the same level as Jedi were, as while he may have been injured, he still lost to someone who had never fought with a lightsaber before. There may have been time to train a bit more between TFA and TLJ, but that's still minimal.

SonicSP Yes. Scrapping with a stick against desert scavengers trying to steal from you is not at all different to lightsaber combat with 8 (supposedly) highly-trained elite combatants, all trying to kill you outright. Not to mention with choreography so poorly thought out, it's a wonder it ever made it into the film. These guards could've been really fucking cool. Instead, you get a really, really shit fight scene (even if you like it, it is an objectively poorly thought out and executed fight scene) with two people who should not do nearly as well as they do. This could've been the moment when Rey and Kylo get crushed and have to run from the fight, both of them barely escaping after assassinating Snoke. It could've given us some stakes. But instead, Snoke dies in anticlimactic fashion, Rey and Kylo kill every single guard, and the Rey just straight up disappears from the throne room after they destroy Luke's lightsaber.
Granted, even if the fight scene was handled flawlessly, that doesn't excuse the rest of the film. Or any of the other movies Disney has pumped out.
Praetorian guards may have better armour than previous troop, but kylo and Rey are no where near as trained or deadly as the Jedi during clones wars.....

One underrated advantage for the Elite Praetorian Guard: they seem to work together well. We see them come to one another's defence, with one who had been disarmed taking a blow from Kylo to protect his fellow, who still had a weapon.

I still think the Royal guards are more powerful. Think about it, One royal guard stopped and forced an entire division of stormtroopers to retreat not mentioning the fact that they were trained by Vader himself. Praetorians lost to some scrubs in a pretty dumb way as well.

I think you may be forgetting that the magnaguards are capable of learning, which would allow them to adapt to a new enemy quickly.

3) Senate Guard. Ultimately a semi-law enforcement and investigative agency that constantly found itself having to deal with well armed and well coordinated threats, sometimes straight up military threats.
4) Praetorian Guard. The Praetorian Guard was *specifically* trained to deal with lightsaber armed combatants, and lost a fight in a 4-to-1 engagement between a somewhat OK combatant and one whose lightsaber training couldn't have amounted to more than a few weeks worth.
Put simply, the Praetorian Guards are EOD techs that can't diffuse bombs.
The Praetorian guards are hard to rank, so we shouldn't put them on top or bottom, since we got no theorical knowledge about them.
But the weapons of the praetorian guards just disappear and they missed multiple easy opportunities to kill Rey

What about the fact that two magnaguards put up a serious fight against Anakin and Obi-Wan? While 8 of the praetorian guards couldn't defeat rey and Kylo. Even though both Rey and Kylo are powerful, they are not even close to as powerful as Anakin or Obi-Wan.
Wel,l Obi Wan and Anakin killed them in like 20 seconds while it took Rey and Kylo about 5 minutes to succeed. Also Rey and Kylo almost died multiple times while Obi and Ani didn't seem to struggle at all

It makes sense from a tech perspective as well, the Empire had large interdictors to stop hyperspace travel, both in fleets and on the death star the First Order probably dropped them, following the implementation of active hyperspace tracking.
(Also turns out the bombers were pushing the bombs out with magnets and the juggernaut would have deployed fighters earlier if not for Admiral Hux's arrogance. The majority of Star War's point defence only seems to work at medium range)

You forget they also came equipped with a heavy blaster pistol and could carry vibroblades into combat.

I think you're really underestimating the Magna Guards. I can't see 8 of them working together losing to 2 force users, even ones as powerful as Kylo and Rey. Just 2 of them did pretty well against Obi-Wan and Anakin.
Good point, but I'm pretty sure there's a Clone Wars episode where Obi Wan or somebody takes on several of them at once. Although, admittedly he is Obi Wan, and much more skilled than Rey and Ren anyway.

There's a difference between winning and barely winning. The fight in TLJ was really close. I could easily see Rey and Ren dying as a possible outcome. With Magnaguards, Anakin and Obi-Wan didn't have much trouble with them. Hell in TCW either one could kill a Magnaguard in just a few seconds. They are by no means weak, but a Magnaguard does not beat a Praetorian (although Magnaguards are way more efficient cause there's more than 8 of them in the whole galaxy and can be built rather than trained for years). You can't go off of "A beats B, so A must also beat C" in Star Wars, there are just too many factors involved in SW fights (hence why some people are STILL analyzing lightsaber duels in the movies).

You say that you could see Rey and Kylo losing to the Praetorians, I on the other hand can't see Rey and Kylo WINNING a fight against 8 Magna Guard. In rogue one you have to remember that it was an infiltration team sent to the planet this can later be seen once the explosions happen while this happens you notice all the officers are in shock and stunned to react this can also be shown in the star destroyers for one they like the officers in the tower were not expecting an attack let alone a fleet jumping on top of them most of them would be in shock to react even when being pushed together by the hammerhead you can later see this in the technicians reactions when they were dying there was complete shock and confusion

IMO the Magnaguards were the best, and only downgraded to be "never as good as organics" just so the Clone Wars could be concluded as they were.
I'm sure a Magnaguard, with enough training and experience could go toe to toe against a Jedi Knight or even a Master. The ones we saw, were only as good as an experienced Padawan; as experienced as Anakin when he was a Padawan.

By EpIII, the magna guards were no secret to Obi-Wan and Anakin who had experience against them. Watch the Clone Wars last episodes where a whole team of Jedi get hunted down by a squad of Magna guards.
Look at the TCW episode "Lair of Grievous", it shows a standard Jedi Knight beat several Magnaguards. No Magnaguard can kill a jedi 1 on 1 (except maybe against a youngling or something). Don't get me wrong, I think Magnaguards should be 2nd place due to their shear numbers compared to their skill. They are extremely efficient I feel, but they wouldn't beat a Praetorian Guard. I should also mention that just because the Praetorians lost to Rey and Kylo, does not mean they're weak. Rey is the second coming of Anakin, Kylo is the successor to Darth Vader, and both have an extremely strong connection with each other. Rey and Kylo barely scraped by in that fight too. They may have won, but it was close.

I will grant you Snoke’s boys seem to have better close range weapons, but Palpatine’s guards do carry heavy blaster pistols on their person and there was one instance of a guard dual wielding his vibro weapon with his heavy pistol. Not to mention that one Royal guard went on to singlehandedly turning the tide of an entire battle.

Meanwhile again, we’ve seen that a single imperial Royal Guard can turn the tide of an army vs army engagement. And the opposing Imperial commander was scared shitless when he learned a Royal Guard had entered the battle. The guard even shot down a Tie Interceptor that tried to gun him down by shooting the pilot through the transparasteel with his heavy blaster.
Snoke’s Royal guards have some interesting weapons, I will admit, but if their fight against Rey and Kylo is any indication, their training leaves much to be desired

I have looked at those factors and here is what I’ve learned, both guards were trained in a variety of hand to hand combat styles, including Echani martial arts.
Both have high quality armor, though I haven’t found anything that states the armor of the Praetorian guards can deflect blasters (if you have a source I’d appreciate that) and the only part of the armor that seems to be lightsaber resistant are the gauntlets/vambraces since one of the guards did stop a strike from Kylo with them. However, the rest of the armor seems to be plastoid like other Stormtrooper armors and thus has no resistance to lightsabers.
Snoke’s guards seem trained exclusively for melee combat, and probably just with the weapons we see them wielding. Palpatine’s guards on the other hand are trained in a wider range of both common and exotic weapons from blasters, to force pikes, to Vibroblades, to arc casters, to even lightsaber pikes, meaning they have far more options and ways to defend their Emperor.
And seeing as Snoke’s guards don’t seem to have Force powers, I Do think that in a one on one fight, Palpatine’s royal guard would defeat Snoke’s guard.
Palpatine’s guards clearly have the better training and frankly the better performance record. If Rey can kill these guys when her skills can’t be anywhere near what you’d expect for a royal guard, then that doesn’t bode well for Snoke’s guys.

Second, of course we saw imperial guards do more, praetorian guards are new (although your source is legends which is non canon idiot). Rey and kylo are one of the most powerfull canon force users we’ve seen so far so of course they won ( akthough snokes guards almost killed them both). I think the MagnaGuards should be at the top, we've seen them in actions before and know that they're extremely effective (Republic Commando, truly a pain in the ass), they were also specifically trained to fight jedi 1 on 1, that already put them miles ahead of the Praetorian guards and Grievous see them as almost equal to his old Kaleesh elites, and that really means something

I would say that the imperial guards should take the number one shot if your using their legends counter part. With one being able to turn the tide of entire battles. Also the two guards rag dolled by yoda in revenge of the sith were the red guard picked mainly for their loyalty to allow the emperor to attend to his alter ego more easily with having one of the senate guards reporting him since they would have protected him other wise.
Also the senate guards just seem to be extremely incompetent. Struggling to keep infiltrators outside their ranks, being susceptible to force dominate (mind control) & pretty susceptible to corruption.
Lastly the praetorian guards they must be force sensitive since half of the helmets are seem to be completely sealed.
Damn I didn't know the praetorian guards could jump from having wooden shields and steel swords to having light sabers and fancy armor.
It's because Disney is so unimaginative that they have to steal a guards name from ancient Roman history to somehow fit into a sci fi futuristic franchise.

Red Guards were selected only for their loyalty to the Chancellor - they were regular clones who were just immensely loyal to Palpatine - in a 1 on 1, a royal guard of the empire would bitchslap a red guard of the Republic.

Magister Mortran Idiot. Palpatine couldn't train anyone effectively in that span of years. So he just got senate guards and put them in that armor. Then when the Galactic civil war happened, he started training. Fuck off.

The guards Yoda slammed away were not NEARLY at the same lvl as the one’s we seen in last jedi or perhaps even Rogue One. They were just senate guards with new armour, thats all.
