The Car That Killed VW Motorsports - Driving and Tearing into the MK8 Golf GTI TCR

- ►2019 was a phenomenal year for FCP Euro and its motorsports team. Fielding two cars in the SRO TC America championship lead to a crushing manufacturers and drivers championship at seasons. Unfortunately, Volkswagen decided to leave the championship on a high note and elected to forego production of a new Mk8-based GTI touring car, or so we thought. Friend of FCP Euro and Orchid Euro owner, Jamie Orr, took a trip to VW's secret warehouse and discovered the singular functioning prototype Mk8 TCR racer unreleased by VW Motorsports.
The Mk8 TCR represents what could've been for VW and FCP Euro Motorsports, say, maybe another championship or two. Although that never happened, VW was kind enough to ship the prototype over, along with their one-of-one Golf A59, and give it to FCP Euro for a day at Lime Rock Park. With FCP Euro Motorsports Director and former driver of the #72 FCP Euro Motorsports Golf TCR Nate Vincent at the wheel, watch as we get to know the prototype and put it through its paces.

This was an awesome and unexpected treat! Thanks for letting us nerd out on racecar stuff.😁👌👍
Very great job guys! Thank you very much for the pedal camera and for the footwork of Nate! It's very informative and interesting! For your next videos on track, it could be possible to keep a camera on the pedalbox to film footwork please? :D
More footwork - heard!
This car is actually fully unwrapped in DriveClub the game
wow that was amazing! i really love how good your explanations are. this video tickled my engineering brain a lot
The MK8 TCR lives on as the KL Leon TCR, and Max Kruse Racing also run a MK8 TCR in Germany.
what a great video, absolutely loved the breakdown of the mk8 tcr!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I got very lucky to see this up close, sounds so good.
It’s really a shame that this car looks so much more aggressive than any other TCRs but I only ended up with a RS3 TCR cuz theres no chance getting this one. Whats worse is that Audi had stopped customer racing program as well…
What a gorgeous machine. PROPER touring car spec. Someone needs to scan this and turn it into a CF bodykit. Would that be legal?
Loved seeing the tcr mk8 at Loe Show last year what a great touring car, also thank you again fcp euro for having my mk8 at the booth last year hope we can make it happen again this year.
Thanks for posting this. Great ideas for modifications for my mk8
Great video and very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it Nick!
Great job, Nate for covering this unique car. Now I can go watch it race at the Ring. :)
As if we timed it intentionally perfect haha
as a Murican i dont know but did VW ever make a MK8 TCR??
Unofortunately nope!
There's a clubsport 8.5, but we aren't getting that either..
@@sdmalpas Sad :( wish we got that and the MK7 version
Nice video. The oil pan was steel, is´t the same steel oil pan that can be bought for the street car mk7 and mk8 ?
super rad, wished they produced these!
It was on its way to crush competition on the track, in typical VW fashion. At least the development was not lost, as some of it made into the CUPRA.
Yeah like the v5….
They have to come Back again next year, the Car was very fast , maybe they can Install all wheel Drive and maybe more horsepower
👀
Would have loved to get the street GTI TCR in the US, but then again we are the step child of the automotive world 😞
Imagine if they used a DCT that they use in the rs3, would be even faster.
like the street golf clubsport should release
If only!
Is this the car that just raced the N24 and won it's class or was that a different chassis?
Volkswagen...listen to the people!!!! BRING THE TCR!! AND TO THE U.S. TOO!!
Anyone who would be realistically disappointed has the money to buy an MK8 and make one themselves or have it done at a shop, still cool though...
I wish MoTec released those wheels in a size that would fit street Golfs 😢
Would have made too much sense!
Lmao at the zip ties, most of my cars have been held together with many zip ties 😂 good enough for VW good enough for me 😋
Wish they would make a road legal version that looked like this
Us to!
I'm surprised they used a manual in place of a dual clutch. Any reason for that?
Dual clutch weights more, but they had ballast in the car.
Its a sequential
C'mon, theres no break ducts on street cars?
Idk but from the front it looks a bit like a old honda civic XD
A shame that thing was for production
It is racing at the ring this weekend finally atleast!
It can barely corner, so much understeer.
wont be able to beat hyundai as they are the kings of TCR for years. even honda cant be close
Let’s trade lol
