My LASIK eye surgery - All Laser, no blades. Terrifying, but worth it!!!

- It was terrifying at the time, but I'm really happy with the results. The procedure was done at the Maloney Institute in Los Angeles, CA.
How it works: In a nutshell: Using a laser they cut a flap into the top layer of my cornea, peel it away momentarily, use a laser shape the cornea underneath the flap, then fold the flap back over, and voila! I could see!
Big thanks to Dr. Maloney and his team. 2+ years later and my vision is better than 20/20 (20/15) :)

I remember me saying to myself, “Oh boy am I glad I have perfect eyesight!” A few days later I had my annual trip to the optometrist and I was told I had astigmatism. I thought the way I saw was how everyone else saw. It’s scary when you think about it.
Yeah I have an irregular astigmatism that cannot be corrected with glasses. I wear glasses that deal with any mild blurriness outside the astigmatism but that itself never changes. Luckily, that blurriness is, while unremovable, very mild to the point where I passed my driver's eye test without my glasses.

Jack Wetwood well obviously, didn’t you read his comment properly? Why would a person say that he/she will still wear glasses if they had LASIK?
@@dexlexdeadlead9412 Ok.. Well, that's not what Jack was saying because they said *didn't* in their comment, unless that was a mistake. And I'm sure people who get Lasik can still wear glasses. Maybe if the procedure didn't work as well as it should've or it's been years since a person had it. Lasik doesn't last forever, it eventually will wear off. From what I know. I mean, I know people who wear glasses and contacts at the same time because wearing just one of those things isn't good enough.
Same
For those that wear glasses, as I did, i had a right eye script of 4.50 and a left eye script was 4.75, now thats' bad vision w/o lasik or glasses. .. Was hard to get fitted for glasses for years because of my astigmatism and was frustrated . I decided to get this procedure done back in 2008. Best thing I did, had 20/20 vision right away the surgery and the astigmatism was also corrected but my eyes were watering for a while. after the surgery which is normal. I had to wear a blindfold to sleep for the next 5 days, since some people rub their eyes in their sleep . I had a terrible vision problem before surgery , in one eye I was a 20/100 and the other eye was 20/115. So I had very thick glasses , even in plastic lenses. Cost back then was $1400.00 for both eyes. I understand that price has doubled now ( this is March 4, 2020 now ) Best thing I've done in my life. Now that I'm in late 40's I need reading glasses , so I buy the cheapo ones at Wal Mart for 5 bucks. My vision is still 20/20 12 years after this surgery, God bless these surgeons !! I had no cateracts just bad vision so I didnt need the implants as this video shows. Each eye took about 12-15 seconds. I was just praying that a didnt hiccup or sneeze during the procedure because you get no sedation and are wide awake and you feel nothing just a little pressure which goes away after 10 seconds after an eye is done.
That was the most wonderful bit of organized silliness I've seen in years!
This video calmed my nerves. Thank you!

COLORS WEAVE INTO A SPIRE OF FLAME
I've had shit vision my entire life and glasses make it worse. When I first got my glasses six years ago, I was in tears seeing everything in detail. it wasn't bad, just squinting at the board a little to read things but then everything started going downhill when my vision got even blurrier and I had to start squinting again, even with glasses. I got new glasses with a stronger prescription last year but my eyes have gotten used to the prescription and everything's gone slightly blurry again at far distances, like the back of classroom far. Whenever I take my glasses off, I can only see things as far as three feet before they go blurry again. Having 20/20 vision is my dream, especially when my eyesight isn't fixed by glasses. If I could see 20/20 without glasses, I would be completely broken and too overcome with shock. it shocks me to even think about people who don't need glasses to see and have perfect vision.
Mary, what a touching story. I hope you'll go in and get an evaluation somehwere. I know typically they wait for your prescription to stabilize for awhile before recommending LASIK but a consulation wouldn't hurt! I wish you the best on your journey! What's your prescription right now?

Not being able to close my eye was freaking me right out.
About a month or so ago, I had to go to the Ophthalmologist to run a few tests because of my high eye pressure. In one of the tests, the lady had to drop in some anasthetic eye drops. And oh my. I think it's just me and my sensitivity, but I started to get really nauseous and light headed. All the sounds were getting muffled, my vision was going blurry, I was sweating and hot, my heat was racing, my stomach was hurting and I felt like I was going to pass out any minute. It was the worst feeling ever. I can't really explain that feeling because you really have to have it to know what I mean. Though I'm pretty sure that this was just because it was my first time having eye drops and I didn't know what to expect. When I rolled my eyes up, It felt like something was blocking it and... i don't know. Again, you have to experience it to know what I mean.
i was not nervous about this operation until he says" you can actually smell your flesh burned"
