@@thomasjohnson1885 Yeah, his last appearance was in November in the Deadpool tie-in miniseries to Venom War where Jimmy was primarily an antagonist being mind controlled a Poison, at the end of which I believe he was freed and turned himself into the TVA as recompense for crimes.
Not only did Bendis change how the Parkers died he changed when too. In Ultimate Spider-Man, that Bendis wrote, he has the video tape of Peter, as a little kid not a baby, with his parents at a picnic. So now that whole inciting incident that made Peter go visit Eddie and create Venom can’t even have happened. Ugh Bendis at least pay attention to your own continuity.
bro I swear bro just one more retcon bro. please bro I promise the continuity will make perfect sense after this bro. we're gonna pay off all those early plot threads for real this time bro. bro just one more retcon please
Jimmy Hudson was just in a venom war tie in book recently. apparently Hudson lives underground with a bunch of monsters and still has the poison x symbiote or whatever it is
He’s actually like the only being in the multiverse to fully survive the poison overtake 😂 They made his healing factor wicked OP and he has a poison-Symbiote It’s like the people that write for him want people to make more stories with him but he’s literally continuity poison until they fix his backstory like they did with Miles 😂
Whats weird to me is how often Hulk writers just move Rick Jones to their next book. Stan Lee did it with the Avengers, Peter David did it with Captain Marvel, Al Ewing is doing it right now with all new all diffrent Venom. Rick is a surprisingly malleable character.
Godzilla’s creation depends on the origin. Sometimes he was already a monster down there and all we did was wake him up, other times he’s a dinosaur walking around a random island that gets nuked, and that one time he was an iguana that got nuked by the Fren- “That’s Zilla!” Ah maybe, but his son is definitely deserving of the name Godzilla.
18:59 "Because Bendis liked 2001" He also clearly liked Kyle Baker's "Truth: Red, White, and Black" which is where he stole the idea of the super-soldier serum being created through experiments on black soldiers from.
The only real contradiction in this story that ‘Mutants were made in a lab’ isn’t actually that they were lab-created, it’s that in Ultimatum, Magneto gives up hope learning that they were made in a lab. The contradiction being, that this story makes it clear that he always knew they were made in a lab.
IMO this is where the ultimate universe started to lose its steam. This story made by the one of the main architects of the universe killed is own Worldbuilding in an instant
When the retcon retroactively makes the Ultimate X-Books worse. Because now Xavier is just completely wrong the whole time. The irony is that I think Bendis had the best run on Ultimate X-Men. Though his time was cut short on the title, Bendis managed to maintain the tone Millar established while keeping the book fresh and engaging.
Honestly I would say the best run of Ultimate X-Men is Brian Wood’s run which is the most consistent. Mark Millar has his volumes 1 and 6 which are very good and the middle is very up and down.
37:17 Ethan has a tendency of just dropping esoteric science knowledge like it’s common sense. I know Ben has said he works for Costco (I think), but now I’m really curious what Ethan does for a living behind the camera.
I can understand a creator not knowing all the details to a long running series they are making, especially when there are other projects going on, but one would think remembering that Peter's parents died in a plane crash would be one of things that Bendis would remember, considering he did the Venom storyline that went heavily into it. But then again, this is Bendis.
Especially appreciative for you and all y'all do after having to evacuate from the LA fires this morning. Y'all bring a smile to my face like no other. Thanks!
I only read ultimate spiderman but was awere of what happens in this story. I cant believe bendis said that the hulk kill the parkers. That I didnt know and Peter was a baby, but bendis himself said that the parkers died when he was 7 or so, thats how he was abel to eddy brooke as a childhood friend. I would love to hear what Sal has to say about that contradiction.
1:08:00 I kept thinking of Godzilla during this discussion until you mentioned it. Different iterations carry different themes and lore. The modern American Godzilla and some theories with different Japanese versions see him as an ancient sea creature that was awakened by the use of atomic bombs. Other iterations like Minus One interpret him as a surviving prehistoric creature that gets mutated and altered the hydrogen bomb testing. Needless to say, Godzilla needs his time on the couch preferably Godzilla in Hell
Ooo, SAL!! We’re getting close to the endpoint of the Ultimate Spider-Man story (which is Ultimate Fallout, remembertodoUltimateFalloutplease). But, when we get to that, just remember not to spoil that thing that happens in Spider-Men 2 (if you know, you know, if you don’t, don’t ask). Keep that a secret. You’ve told them before, but they’ve likely forgotten.
Idk about that. Flawed sure but Kitty Pryde definitely ain't. Not to mention JJJ is thr nicest version in main stream and goed full circle. I could list more but they all involve character development so I see ur point
I love when you talk about the ultimate universe. I hope one day y'all do ultimate hulk vs wolverine that was such a fun read and had some great wtf moments
As a fellow jimmy hudson fan, I'm still waiting for more stories with him in the xmen universe since they NEVER USED HIM DURING KRAKOA. The TVA is using him though.
Ultimatum was the death of the ultimate universe, but Ultimate Origins was the symptoms of what was the eventual downfall of the Ultimate universe. Messy, broken continuity, makes no sense, and was just bad storytelling.
Hey everyone at ComicPop, continue to keep up the good work! Love listening to your commentary. I am interested to hear your thoughts on Justice by Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, and Doug Braithwaite in a possible future Back Issues episode. 😀
Oh my God is this book implying that Magneto is acting like a Faraday Cage when he can probe Xavier's mind? Its as if he's intercepting and blocking the signal? @ComicPop Ask Ethan if that is what's happening here.
Oh boy! This is an interesting episode. By the way, Since you're doing an ultimate book, does that mean you're going to do the Maker Saga soon since he's going to be up here in Marvel Rivals?
On the last installment of Off the rack their comic review show. Sal suggested three books Tiff could host in the future. One of them was Godzilla vs Justice leauge. Not gauranteed but it could happen.
It’s ironic that this episode releases around the same time Jimmy Hudson actually showed back up in a book, he’s in the new TVA miniseries, and I had completely forgotten he costed until a checked that book out.
Butch Guice (my phone autocorrected to Juice) took over for Steve Epting during Ed Brubaker's Captain America run in the mid to late 2000s. His style really fits that book!
I remember 616 Wolverine did have a fight in which he popped the claws when his wrist was bent, and it severed the tendons in his wrist. He was fighting Captain America and Steve forced the situation to get the upper hand
Ngl. I saw Ultimate and no Spiderman under it and immediately went "Uh oh." In my brain lol. Alarms went off. I try to avoid Ultimate anything else as much as I can unless of course it shows up on this show lol.
Are you guys ever gonna do the Ultimate Enemy trilogy or Hickman’s Ultimates for the Maker stuff, probley some of the only other worthwhile stuff from this Universe.

This is what I always thought but I could be wrong
They fused Jimmy Hudson with a symbiote and a poison from venomverse and shoved him off into space somewhere just to get rid of him, and I will never get over that.
To settle the Godzilla debate as Blue Oyster Cult says "history shows again and again how nature points out the folly of man" this would imply Godzilla is a reaction of Nature making Godzilla and act of God
Not even a minute in and Sal is already ranting about continuity and obelisks, we're so back
