Love it. Near the end you say that we don't know what happens after you cross the event horizon, but I thought Susskind and Hawking agreed that nothing special happens. Your information is projected on the surface of event horizon spherical. The people on the outside see you stop moving and look like a statue for an eternity. But you just keep orbiting. Life goes on. You just live in a separate time , disconnected from the other loved ones on the outside that you can't go back. You have new friends, etc. Your orbit decades and your spaceship will be torn apart after millions of years when approaching the center. But everything in the universe is torn apart after trillions of years any way. No difference.
Universe sandbox is for people in the future when we no longer use google maps to look at a location, instead we use universe sandbox for traveling when we are exploring the cosmos
It's pretty mind blowing to think that something so small has the entire galaxy orbiting around it (and I'm not talking mass, here, its actual size is pretty tiny on a cosmological scale). Also, the black hole should be named Fenrir, the Norse wolf that was going to swallow the sun, should he be unleashed. Or stars, in this case, considering its a black hole.
Norse name: Hresvelgr, means "corpse swallower". A giant eagle wind god who resides at the end of the world and is the source of all the wind in the world to blow with it's mighty wings!
I thought time dilation could also happen due to gravitatioal fields. Hence why GPS systems in orbit have to account for this when calculating an object's position.
If there was an object in space to name after Hades it would definitely be a black hole. I also like the name of the Finnish mythologys underworld " Tuonela "
Hoenir - the silent god or Kvasir - god of inspiration. Sagitarius A is still an awesome name tho. Thanks for putting SpaceEngine's link in the description awesome video.
I would recommend you get the standalone version RC1 which has black holes with accretion discs and (if you want to do a video showcasing the Space Engine's realistic power) things like atmospheric composition and multi-hued rock layers on mountains.
I’m confused. Is it the middle of the galaxy? Like the thing which keeps the dust and solar systems orbiting instead of flying away? Like is the glowing thing in the middle of galaxys a black whole? Or the black whole orbits the middle of the galaxy?
I think we should name it Bill just to throw everyone off...aliens land one day with tales of witnessing the unimaginable power and majesty of the galaxy's center and our ambassador says "oh, you're talking about Bill? Yeah, Bill's pretty sweet. What do you guys do about things like toilet paper for really long intergalactic voyages?" *awkward silence*
For future reference, you can actually hit CTRL+G to go the center of an object. So if you click on the Milky way, and hit CTRL+G, it will take you right to Sagittarius A*. You're also using an outdated version as of March 20th.
S2 at 5000 km/sec...that other star, which went faster at the perihelion, would be moving at relativistic speeds, giving it mass?? Does gravity depend on the rest mass or relatavistic mass?
I believe that there is something scarier than a black hole that we still haven't yet discovered. I feel like something is out there even more dense than a black hole, something with an even stronger gravitation. But then leads me to think can a black hole experience gravitational collapse if it gets too big?
Anton, I noticed you're not using the latest patch of Space Engine (patch 8), this patch includes an official name for Sagittarius A*, and an accretion disk. Please check it out :)
Hey, I'm not sure if you're looking at the correct object. In my space engine, F3 search for Sagittarius A takes me to the black hole. The object you've showed has name starting with R which, I think, is an indication that it's randomly generated. And Chronos is a great name !!
Honestly, the galaxy is mostly orbiting itself. As massive as Sgr A* actually is, it is only a very small amount of mass compared to the galaxy as a whole. Massive black holes are thought to trickle down (as it were) toward the centers of galaxies over time as they collect more matter and get larger as galaxies collide and merge, and/or perhaps act as a seed which helps form galaxies and grow over time as the galaxy ages.
And as for what is beyond/within the event horizon, I think that is _somewhat_ of a false question to ask in the first place, since it stems from our limited perception of reality. From our perspective, it might be just as accurate to say that there is no such thing as being beyond the event horizon (within our known universe). On the other hand, black holes have mass, or at least gravity, so there must be _something_ there. It is interesting to think about, isn't it?
Anton, I am not sure if you know, but I have heard that there are copyright claims on the music in Space Engine.... you might want to look out for that in case RUclips flags it. I don't want you to get taken down!
+MIchael Miller yes, there are unfortunately. I got flagged a few times when my music was too loud. this is a very recent addition as it was copyright free before. Thanks for letting me know though. The solution is usually - talk louder than the music :D
I was watching quasars n radio galaxies. I wanted to talk about the immense radiation that goes into space for lightyears. after you spoke of the particle emissions fl flying out near 99% C and I wanted to comment about how immense the radiation was but comments were disabled?
+Zdt 71 Not in the near future, true interstellar travel will come when we have large solar sails and/or fusion rocket engines, otherwise, you can't really call it a Starship.
Thanks for the lovely ride Anton. Is there a reason that the naming conventions are limited to Myths? And specifically (frankly troubling) limited to Greek or Roman or Slavic Myths? I would imagine India has contributed much in terms of Myth and cosmology.
I would name it πύλη στο ένα - from το εν, "to hen", pronounced "toe hen" - meaning the Platonic "One" from which Plato supposes that all reality emerges - where πύλη στο ένα is "gateway to the One" - full pronunciation would be "pay lee stow Ena" or "payleestowena". Anyone may feel free to correct my Greek.
Time dilation is not a result of a black holes spin it is causes by the bending of space and time (gravity) the more the gravity the more time is dilated so interstellar was right ... And in something as massive as sagittarious A would make tima dilate by about hundreds of years or even thousands/1 earth year..... Read the the special and genaral theories of relativity
Saggitarius A is a pretty dope name tbh
***** god dam auto correct
+Sans Sagittarius A**
If our galaxy wasn't already named the Milky Way, I would call our galaxy the (Main) Sagittarius Galaxy.
Edward Shore id call it the costa way lol
Gabe Rodriguez I agree dude lmao. Sounds like some Star Wars sh*t
"its not that far away"
"its just 26.000 ly away"
yeah its really close anton

Compared to other things, It's near.
Bro we humans are minute particles in universe
So for us it’s kinda impossible to reach
But for heavenly objects that some distance
Gabriel Reyes that’s pretty close now I’m scared

Sounds pretty dope too.

Saturn actually means Kronos in Greek. I am a Greek and we call Saturn , Kronos (Κρόνος) . So we might have to find another name . 😝
Which software r u using
Thanks for suggesting Space Engine software.
Name the blackhole in the middle of milky way?
That's an easy one for me.
Chronos. Titan of time and father of the Olympian gods.
Actually cronos for us greeks is saturn
Oh right. Still prefer Chronos though.
+BlueRevolvur Saturn is the Roman version of Chronos.
That's actually pretty good!
Kinda fitting too since from what I remember Chronos ate his children...
