Had to look up her history. Truly a victim of abuse. When you realize how young she was and how these men used her it makes the song less Britney Spears and more tragic.
Or exactly Britney Spears and still tragic.
I knew her history going on and this whole song made me emotional. Especially since I could understand on some personal level.
Breaks me. Oldest she could have been at execution was 17. She was used, abused and destroyed by men
@@sassymae5808 I think it is believed she was 19 at the time of her death. Nobody is certain Tudor times did not keep great birth records , unless you were royalty . It gets creeper when you realize that K.Howard was younger than Mary I.
Considering what Britney Spears herself has endured, it's still a fair comparison. Katherine Howard was fairly neglected as a child (she was the tenth of her mother's eleven children and her mom was dead by the time Katie was 7-8) and her education and discipline were not given what they should have been given, so she was an easy target for the predatory males who used and abused her. I see her like Norma Jean Baker (Marilyn Monroe) as a child: an emotionally-starved little waif who grew up too fast in the wrong ways.
There is so much laughter coming from the audience in the first two sets and they eventually fade away

This song is easily the most relatable for most women. When you're young, naive, neglected, and emotionally starved, it's easy to mistake sexualization for desire and connection. Especially when the latters is all you've ever wanted. You relish in all of these men "wanting" you. But eventually you grow up and realize that being valued for nothing more than your body is exhausting and dehumanizing.

Damn she really brought the end. Kitty Howard was used her whole live and I think just wanted a genuine connection. The end really showed her frustrations and hurt. Gave me chills. She's a amazing singer.

Omg ikr....it's so emotional. I actually prefer this actress to aimee atkinson. And she pours emotion into her singing, while aimee spends all her time making her voice sound perfect, but its not about that

I think that a really great detail in this is the slight wording changes in the chorus. It goes from " please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me" which is in the first two chorus to, " seize me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me" during the chorus with Henry as the guy in question and it's a round about was of saying, she's aware of how she's effectively being taken against her will, and then the last chorus repeat having, " squeeze me, don't care if you don't please me" was heartbreaking sad.
And the way her body language and reaction to touch from the other queens gets stiffer as if she's increasing more aware of how much she's being touched is a great musical touch.
I listened to the Cast Recording and while I got the gist of the song it didn’t really hit home until I saw the live performance. It changed my whole perspective and I now feel like it’s one of the more tragic songs in the musical. Kudos to Samantha Pauly for her voice and acting abilities. She relayed so much angst in her facial expressions alone. ❤️
That is what writers were going for. It sound like nothing but a pop song on the radio with the lyrics simply being lyrics. Often time the meanings of songs fall on deaf ear. the live version brings the lyrics to life.
I've highly recommended to everyone in my family to go see this if possible! But, I always, always give them a heads-up that this is an emotional, gut-wrenching, potentially triggering number. It can be "touching" but not in a good way.
Anytime someone asks about the bear vs. the strange man question in regards to women I want to show them this. This is why most women say the bear. And yet, I'd say most men only hear the beat ignore the real message. Sigh. She does an incredible job. Chills every time I watch it.
Breaks my heart how Catherine Howard from childhood was used, abused, and destroyed by men. She always wins for me who of Henry VIII's wives suffered the most, though they all suffered (Anne--I'm the queen of the castle--of Cleves maybe not so much)
Late to the party but something that really strikes me about this performance is how little support she gets from the backing vocals. Compare it to say Get down or No way and you see its a completely different vibe. I think the idea is to show just how alone K Howard was pretty much her entire life.
I was able to see this show live in Chicago before it went to NYC and the night I went after she was done with the song it was silent in the theater. No clapping or anything, everyone was just so moved by her performance it felt wrong to break the silence. I love the song on the album but seeing it live is just so sad.
I’ve seen other casts sing this but no one else sings it like her. Damn, gives me goosebumps (and makes me teary) everytime

I've watched a few reactions to this and had to stop because some of them did not get it. They were dancing or critiquing her notes in the last verse. Those notes were intentional because she's emotionally and screaming, and she should be. Maybe the people watching didn't realize all the undertones. I didn't the first time I watched it. It sounds comical and fun at first, especially with her remarks at the beginning. It sounds like a fun, upbeat song, but it is the exact opposite. I have a hard time listening to it now that I know the history. Her performance though is brilliant.

Desde que conozco este musical la canción de Catalina Howard siempre me ha parecido supremamente triste en el sentido en que puedes notar la infancia que le quitaron en como dice "Apretarme como las abejas y las flores" (Que es una explicación que se le da a los niños) o que en la parte final es aún más dolorosa porque Thomas Culpeper intento hacerle SA (O bueno, le hizo SA y la Vword (Ya saben se borra el comentario) pero según él no lo logró y "La dejo") luego la fue culpando a ella de que lo obligaba a tener relaciones con ella (Nada paso en realidad, ella hasta lo rechazó según su testimonio después) para luego cuando Catalina ya no estaba admitir todo y que le dijeran "Nah, todo bien, no pasa nada"

In reality Katherine Howard and Anne Bolyne wete first cousins. Anne's mom and Katherine's dad were sibs. Anne and Katherine were put in front of Henry by their shared uncle Thomas Howard. Thomas was even a member of the men who judged both girls and George Anne's brother. So yea Thomas took part in killing his brother's daughter and two of his sister's kids

Im sorry i love the singers and song but kathrine parr and anne of cleves in the background just makes me lose it everytime like i love the changes they did to anne of cleves and that preformer is in anne mode allllll the time in the background....while kathrine par is talented...but she is so focused on her performance she can give you a death stare with her concentration. Like sometimes you see her just appearing the glare daggers into whatever is in her line of sight but really shes just concentrating. 😅

This was the US production of the musical, so that's why they aren't British. The original production was in the UK and the cast recording of Six is of the Off-West End cast.
