I always thought TOSS was up until the January banlist that completely killed every TOSS deck. Yeah there were other decks that were viable around that period, but it was also nicknamed the eternal format because the top decks stuck around for well over a year and none of the new archetypes from the core sets did anything to shake up the meta and all that changed was the addition of new extra deck staples instead.
Game 2 was funny to watch. Joseph spends his time making a pretty solid board and meanwhile we're just staring at evenly + pankratops in Alex's hand. Had Joseph kept the fossil dyna instead of the Saryuja he may have had a chance. Alex would have been in a position where he had to draw harp horror or dark grepher to out it, or widow anchor/imperm.
I think that depends how you look at it. The actual Toss where there was balance between the T O S and S ended much earlier, but the time period during which all of these were playable and topping didnt and youd be right. However, Orcust was alost tier 0 during that time I believe, so it wasnt the balanced nostalgic forat people like to imagine so thats why they say it "ended"

I got blown out by Fossil Dyna game one. Game two I did the same thing to him with vanity ruler and blew him out. Game 3 was a lot closer. We both bricked a little bit, and had a slower game. He ended up getting me down to like 600 life points or something. But a top deck Trish started to come back. I was then able to establish Trish, Unicorn and Vanity fiend while putting him on top deck mode. Got him down to about 2000 life points with that field, every turn him just setting a monster because he can't do anything to out the fiend. It's his turn and he's watching the clock. He takes a second to think and ends up just setting a monster and passing. I go draw and go into Main. Before I can say battle, time is called. We have to finish the main phase and he wins the game with like 2000 life points to my 600. He even made a comment saying that I should have won that game because of my board state. Proceeds to say that oh well, time rules I have higher life points. I win. Even though he openly admitted that he should have lost... Later found out he went on to take fourth place at the event. Wait, Sekka's Light is STILL at 1, despite being incompatible with ANY other consistency Spell? They must be terrified of the Genex Ally Birdman FTK loop that no one in their right mind would rely on even when Genex gets their wacky new Link-1. Sky Striker Orcust has WAY better options to work with now(and in the near future), the problem is Harp Horror is still banned. Oh well. Also still mad that the TCG basically missed out entirely on trying out Orcust Tearlaments before most of their good monsters got limited or banned, turning it into a bland Fusion Soup.
I tried orcust tear a bit, the orcust bricks kinda made a lot of tear hands unplayable and milling orcust s/t mid combo feels awful since there isn't a good way to recover them.

When the rest of the deck is staples or alternate starters to get into the main combo line, it seems reasonable to name the deck after the main combo line. But I agree that it is ironic to some degree if your deck's name comes from 15-20% of its contents, lol

@@LordBeau I firmly believe they would at least come back to tiered status in MD if BD and their archetype-specific hits were lifted.
