How To Recharge A/C - 2004-2009 Mazda 3 - Air Conditioner Repair

  • DIY A/C Recharge. This car is a 2007 Mazda 3 with 2.3L engine. The complaint was intermittent a/c light flashing and then shutting off compressor. The a/c was not cooling properly at idle and in traffic. This is how I fixed it. I'm not an expert A/C mechanic but this has worked for me on several vehicles. Good luck.

    Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ruclips.net/user/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

    *Works so well **Fastly.Cool** that it only requires daytime operation until high temp and humidity are overnight. It is difficult to get to side filters, but back is easily accessible.*

    I've had no issues with my AC light. Not that I've noticed anyway. The air blowing when on is only cold when I have 1 interior vent open but when I open 2 vents it's far too warm.
    I think my problem is similar to yours. For reassurance I will check my compressor first until then I will hunt for some super tech.

      Sounds like you're system is empty. If so you will need to get a vacuum pump and fix any leaks before recharging. If you don't have the gauges and vacuum pump it will be cheaper to take it to a shop.

    My buddys a/c makes this horrible squeal (metal on metal sound) at idle and when pressing the brakes. Do you know whats causing that? I thought maybe it was the compressor or condenser but he said hes had them recently changed, within 2 years he said.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel

      I cant think of anything other than the A/C clutch might be failing but it seems like it would make the noise all the time not just at idle. Does the ac still cool when the noise is present? You could try to watch the compressor with your buddy in the car duplicating the symptoms. You might be able to see the clutch slipping or pinpoint the source. Good luck.

    • @Mooseguy15
      @Mooseguy15 Год назад

      exactly, it should be blowing around 40-45f on MAX FAN speed, hell my 2014 Mazda 3 is showing around 50f on low setting but when I crank it up to max, it's at 77f, which is super high in terms of temp for an AC system even @ 94f outside, it should still be blowing 43ish out of the vent on max speed at idle.

      I kept runnin into that issue until I forgot I had the bottle attach and turned the car off, and when I came back like 10 mins later from bein kinda frustrated and started the car Nd the gauge started working, so idk if It’s I let the car sit or it was having the bottle connected before starting the car, also i think it only jumped to red when I pulled the trigger so it could just not be pushing the low side valve right and all the pressure from the can is trapped in the sealed space u made by putting the connector on

    The Mazda fan switches have 2 separate sets of contacts inside: one that run the vent blower fan; and another set that tells the computer that the switch is on (any fan speed) so that it will turn on the compressor.
    The compressor contacts get unreliable over time and the compressor will disengage and the light will turn off. If you turn the switch to any other position and back again it will work until it goes off again. Only permanent fix is to replace the fan switch.
    When the compressor contacts start acting up, the vent blower fan continues to work normally.
    The reason the AC system did not need very much refrigerant because that wasn't the cause of the light going off. The cooling temp went down, but the light problem will remain.

       @The Hands On Channel did it turn out to be just low charge? Mine does the same, it will blow somewhat cooler air out of the passenger center vent and the driver side will be a little warmer, I have my theory for this, is that since the charge is low, and the TXV and entrance for the evap refrigerant is on the passenger side, that part of the evap gets whatever is left in the system and by the time it reaches the driver side vent part of the evap, there isn't enough cold refrigerant to cool the whole evaporator.

    My a/c stopped working in my 2008 mazda3 last summer so I took it in and they said I needed a new compressor which cost me $800 (installation included) but the a/c still never really got cold, more like Luke warm so I've been going without air since then and its been like riding around in a coffin. I don't really know what to do. I don't know if I got a faulty compressor or what. I should have taken the car right back to the shop last summer when I knew almost right away it wasn't working right, but I didn't, I've just been suffering in the heat all last summer and this one. I just don't know what the problem is. I hate to fork out another $800 for another new compressor and it still not work. I don't have money to guestimate at this part and that part finding the problem. Does anyone have any advice?

    • @septembersapphire347
      @septembersapphire347 5 лет назад +1

      I'm so upset about this because other than the a/c problem its been a great car. But what sucks is the cars not paid for and its a BLACK car with BLACK leather interior and I smolder in it all summer long. I still have another 27 car payments to go on it. I don't have extra money laying around to buy a dozen different parts that "MIGHT" be the cause of the a/c not working so I'm probably gonna sweat it out til its paid off and then sell it in the winter and then the a/c can be their problem to fix. I want an old mini-van without payments. I'll sell my Mazda and go buy an older mini-van out right with ice cold air and have no more damn car payments, those suck! And those damn dealerships financially rape your ass and sell you a $2,500 car for $7,000. Assholes!

    • @Mooseguy15

      NO! never recharge a car with the can upside down, the fill port is often way too close to the compressor and you can slug it with it in a liquid state if it doesn't have time to revert to gas before hitting the compressor and ruin it. Although these cases are super rare, it's always better safe than sorry.

    Not for nothing, engine bays retain more heat when they are covered in filth like this one. Detail and degrease you’re engine bays no matter what car you have. You will actually be helping every component under the hood last longer and run better... even the AC!

    • @TheHandsOnChannel

      Come on Rhyno, the engine in the video wasn't filthy. It's a bit dusty but this car drives on gravel roads. That's the reality of living in the country. I clean it every time I change the oil. I do agree that you don't want a grease ball around your engine but some dust wont hurt a thing (especially the AC's ability to cool). Thanks for the comment though.

      No it shouldn't actually. My 2014 3, before running low, cycled on and off with the condenser fan turning on and off with it, if it's low it will constantly stay on as mine currently does. It's just the way newer cars work. It turns on and off with the Evaporator temperature sensor, and if your evaporator can never get down to the temperature required for this whole operation to take place, it will just constantly stay on as it senses it's not at the optimal temperature yet.
