I love love love Spike Feresten. I used to watch his show all the time. Idiot Paparazzi and Comedy for Stoners in his some of his best stuff. I still quote him regularly. He's amazing. I never knew he came from Letterman. Makes sense my 2 favorite late night people are tight.
That was such a well pit together piece thank you. I still can't believe he's done so much. I only knew him consciously from number 9: Talkshow. But subconsciously he's been in my mind (Letterman, Space Ghost, SNL...?
This is pretty amazing. Of course, this is only the first part with all of the stories of how Spike got into the late night world through writing. By the way, going from being an NBC page to being an SNL writer is a classic move. I am amazed! That won't really happen anymore. Anyway, I can't wait to hear about his talk show hosting days.
Thanks! Spike seems to have a charmed life, I bet people hate him for it. The way he tells it, he bumps into some girl in a bar and five minutes later she gets him an internship at 30 Rock. He's answering phones right in front of Dennis Miller's office and "tossing him jokes" and now he's a writer. He floats over to Letterman's show seamlessly and at that point he's a made man. Plus Dave lets him drive his incredible car collection. He makes it sound so easy!
I found your channel about a year ago while watching old teamcoco clips, loved the Late Night Wars saga, binged every other video you had. I even caught the last few uploads but forgot to subscribe during all this. Luckily I had your url bookmarked.
It's a pitty not more of Spike's show was archived. There's a sketch starring writer, Andres du Bouchet called Mr. Happy Hand Shake. One of the funniest sketches I've ever seen.
Working on it. Currently in the process of trimming claimed material so the video can mostly stay up. I might spend a day finding replacement clips for the claimed stuff and do a proper reupload. I think I had some other options.
@@FanboyFilms - Great to hear. I spent the eighties and nineties hooked on light night television and this channel has meant the world to me. I’ve probably watched the Conan vs Lopez video about a dozen times. I would hide a little black and white tv under my blankets to watch Carson and then when he retired I thought late night was dead until Conan showed up the next year and I watched every night for years.
Your videos are always quality. I didn't know anything about Spike but learned a lot. Definitely looking forward to watch it part 2. Keep up the great videos!
Wow, I just found out he worked on Letterman. I knew he did the Soup Nazi. Late Night was beyond entertainment back then. I hope to thank him personally for all the laughs someday.

I can't imagine how much work you put into this and the outcome is amazing. Thank you for putting light on this! I'm going to part 2 straight away.

Some great candidates for a spotlight would be Robert Smigel or Chris Elliot
Matthew McConaughey says expand your mind

I was never big on late night talk shows but remember catching his a few times and being amused by how offbeat it was
