I liked 2nd place winner more, but when it comes to the effort put to make those balloons, and for choreography + movie I think this one deserves first place. When it comes to totoro, there was nothing much besides costume in comparison to this one. Ofc those are two different genres

The rules indicate that you're supposed to do most of your costume by yourself, so yeah they made most of it but, there was some kind of motors in their back to keep them inflated, so i think they didn't build the motor parts -)
I think it was good. These are not paid ninja so of course the kicks and moves are not movie accurate. That said for all the effort that went into this i am glad they got placed high. Asking a stage crew to just “trust me, it’ll look awesome of you help us with lighting” is a huge ask. The movie is easy enough to help keep pace and less demanding on stage crew. So good job. Keep up the good work. Next year i wanna see those kicks land, okay?

How is this 1st place? 😂😂😂 There were better cosplays and better performances around. Top 5 definitely, susanoo and kurama are impressively done but this is just below compared to the others
I film this event every year, and this year that performance was the most original, the story of naruto and sasuke in a very festive matsuri (japanese traditional festivals) atmosphere was a very good idea, the audience was actually delighted. And also it's important to note that the judges are not all cosplay specialists, so over all that performance stood over the others, i was sure they were going to win -)
This is supposed to be a cosplay competition though right? Not a performance one, because if it is then no point in cosplaying none action characters 🤨

The toroto costume was incredibly complex. They should have won first instead of this grotesque ass balloons.
I think team japan won since it would have been humiliating for them to lose for the 12th time.

The contest requires 80% handmade costumes, and yes, they made those + their costumes

Parachute cloth fans and some LEDs. It really impressive the pattern for those is insane.

I think the reason Totoro lost to this is because it wasn't a Cosplay competition, but a contest on putting on a show.
Cosplay isn't just about the cos. It's also about the play.
