I love your content. I am a subscriber of you since you had 60,000 subs. You are getting bigger and bigger every second. Here is my thing. Almost every single tech RUclipsr does a "GAMING" build. I would love to see a z170 "FUTURE PROOF" pc that can turn into a beast of gaming rig. Because not everyone has the money to spend it all at once. Nor do they want a pc that they are going to be stuck with and will not be able do upgrades to their system. For example, I would love to see a $600-800 build that will support overclocking, headroom for more ram, and doing sli even. I want this because when you are doing a build like this, you are cheaping out in every single section to get the best gpu in the market for the money that's left which makes the build not that future proof/up-gradable. I'm not expecting you or anyone to do video about this. It's just something that I found out since I have started learning about tech. It's just my opinion which no one cares about because who even am I? Thank you a lot if you have read this long and boring comment on your video:)
Tarik Sonmez If you were to do a build that had everything but a GPU here's what I think would be good pcpartpicker.com/list/NLcL7h However for one that you get everything now and upgrade later here : pcpartpicker.com/list/vmLgPs
that's pretty much what i built 3 months ago :) i recommend! but i skipped the liquid cooler and took a be quiet dark rock pro 3... it's big, but does an excellent job! and 1060 as gpu, even though something sli compatible would be better...
Nothing is future proof. This generation of graphics cards will age well though. I recommend at least a GTX 1070 for the next few years at 1440p and 1080p. For processors, wait for AMD Zen or Kaby lake and see what they have to offer
Combatsmithen i an not planning on building now or any time soon actually. of course I am waiting for the AMD Zen and kaby lake. thank you very much though for your advise. :)
This is a nice part list, mr Salazar. I would personally get the i3 + Rx 470 since its price dropped, but I do understand why a true quad core is also a very good pick, specially if you plan on playing GTA V or heavily modded minesweeper
helloworld459 I think so too but for some games it won't run at all with 2 cores, and with newer APIs the load will be better distributed among the threads, making the i5 a significantly better pick
Anton, I'm looking at the screen when I'm discussing parts, and still occasionally look at the webcam. If you know my channel, then you should know that I have no problem speaking directly into a camera.
I enjoy the budget build videos! So many tech tubers show high end systems the average Joe could never dream of building. Keep up the great work! Please give us some science now and then please...
Something that I wanted to point out is that the 600w versoin of the power supply is on sale at best buy for $40. I was quite surprised myself when I saw it today.
Feel pretty good about the system I put together for my brother, all bought at MicroCenter last month. Had an i5-6500, mini ITX board, 16GB DDR4, 500GB SSD in a Coolmaster Elite 110. It was $500, picked up a second-hand GTX 780 off Craigslist for $100 the next day for it.
I like PC Part Picker and would use it except for one thing. It lists online stores I have never heard of and I don't know how reliable they are or how good customer service they provide (ie. items arriving on time if at all, correct items being shipped, items being damaged, how good they are with returns, etc.).
y need 3rd aftermarket cooler since i5-6400 can't OC? intel stock cooler is more than adequate. i personally suggest go for i5-6500 is more wiser & the rest of extra cash $9 spend on 120/140 mm fan.
Doggy Bhaw Bhaw! cpu oc is something really useless. even if you transcode videos. you'll get 1-5% speed increase but you'll spend money on cooler. in most cases OC does not save your money, it actually makes your rig more expensive.
Your videos are really cool, bro. Nice explanation and detail break down of content and most importantly its very understanding to a newbies like me. Bcuz I've been searching for a while, but I found your channel and it's really helpful, brother. Once again thanks a lot for your hard work. Have a great day my bro 😃😊
Salazar bro, Thank you very much for this video. I'm new to this stuff and I guess I'll go with this build, even though I've a budget of $1000+, but as a starter I'm cool with this.
for 20dls more you can buy an rx 470 witch performs like 40% more. the 1050 ti is just not a good deal. In the other hand... the 1050 (no ti) is a much better card than the rx 460
DJRICKYDEEUK ah... ok, in that case is a very good option, the rx 470 with a good cooler is a cool running card too, but yeah... it need at least a 6pin connector
I have a $600 ITX build with a i5-6600K and a GTX 980. The only used parts were the 980 and the PSU (half price ebay cuz the fan made a noise, but not used). I'd also recommend getting the SG13B instead because its the smallest available that's cheap and it supports full atx PSU's, but then again its predecessor requires SFX but also supports slimline DVD.
Salazar Studio Meh, it's not ideal and I don't really recommend it, but I've tuned some settings and measured power draw from the wall, and it's sitting at about 250W max during Firestrike.
Salazar Studio There was a point when I was playing GTA V on it with a 6600k at stock settings (wasn't measuring power draw though). I do have the 480 undervolted -100mV from stock, running at 1250 MHz. I'm about to go to sleep but I'll definitely test it some more tomorrow and let you know

I think i can speak for most of us who have been with you from day one, Science studio will always be our first love.... But anyway keep up the good work brother, we accept the name change but please don't change who you are though!!!
I'm suprised man! RX 470 would be a much better choice for only $10 - $20 more. It consistently beats the 1050 ti by 20-30% (for only 10% more money) I thought that you would surely be quick to point this out. (of course, I may have missed the entire point of this video - It could just be that you're hoping for Nvidia to send you a 1050 ti.. or cheese nips..) EDIT: Major probs to Salazar Studio for the quick response (and description addendum) to my critical feedback. I'm very impressed.
HERE BEFORE THE NAME CHANGE! Ha, new people! I don't mind the name change and I appreciate the direction and how relevant you felt it was. I agree fully! What was the old channel description?
you'd have to shave off that case too because the c7 cpu cooler definitely won't fit in it. I just built a system in this case and except for maybe one or two cpu coolers you are pretty limited to just a stock one with the way the psu mounts above the motherboard.
even without OC if you consider the Turbo clocks the 6400(2.7 base 3.3 turbo) is only 300mhz slower than the 6500(3.2 base 3.6 turbo). Hence it should perform within 10% of the 6500(hint it does, only about 8% slower across the board) at a price about 10-15% lower(200 vs 170)
I have a few laptop hard drives sitting around so cod I just get an ssd and use the old laptop hard drives until I can get a desktop hard drive? I know they'd work but I'm wondering how long they'd last before failing as all mechanical disc drives do.
Just run SMART test on your drives and see if they come out GOOD. If so you will be fine using your 2.5 inch drives. No need to upgrade to a 3.5 mechanical. Yes a 7200rpm 3.5inch will be faster than a 2.5inch 5400rpm drive but it is probably not worth your money to do so. You could set your 2.5 inch drives up in a stripe array that would greatly improve read/write times.
Hmm... the H110 chipset doesn't really allow for overclocking so I'd suggest going for 2133MHz DRAM. Will say the same for the B150 & H170 chipsets. Otherwise looks good. Though the i5-6400 might not play nice with some games which require 3+GHz clock speeds with high settings or higher. This is mainly single core stuff from OpenGL or DirectX 9 to DX11. Just a heads up.
Why? The i5 6400 is a similar price (perhaps 20$ more , same price outside of US). And it's much faster across the board. Skylake is a much more modern platform with native controllers for all sorts of things AM3+ is hopelessly outdated at this point. It's so old it's simply not worth buying anything am3+ anymore. Also the AM3+ offers no ITX motherboards
+Salazar Studio Why not going with a Mini itx z170 asrock Motherboard, its support Overclocking and with it you can easily overclock the i5 6400 to 6600 territory its arround 70-80$ if you looked carefully i would love to know your opinion about it
I just bought an Nvidia 1050 Ti to replace my current graphics card. I have two systems, one with an FX 6100 and an i5 2400. Will I see significant increases in gaming performance if I put the card into the i5 system instead of the FX 6100 system? The i5 is in a small form factor case, so if i wanted to use it, I would either have to put it int he other computer's case, or buy a new power supply, and hard drive for it.
I would really love to see a future-compatible ITX build for a budget as low as possible(try below 800) ,with the mobo as Asus z170i Pro Gaming . Now thats a challenge!
Should be the same build except for the motherboard. It should only add around $100 more than Greg's current build. As that ASUS mobo is usually $160-$175. You could even add a GTX 1060 and stay under $800.
Nice build, I'd say the sweet spot in terms of value, longevity and performance. I agree with the RX 470 4GB being a better deal though, in the UK I've seen one go for less than some GTX 1050 Ti's! One question I have is whether an aftermarket CPU cooler is worth it. I mean, if the CPU has Turbo Boost then in theory it should allow for higher clock speeds to be sustained because it won't be limited by the temps, and probably will be quieter too but the stock cooler should do a decent enough job of keeping the temps at "safe" levels, right?
Question: you said in the video that you have already tested that dual-channel memory doesn't really help that much in gaming. What video is it? I've been locked into an almost-endless debate whether a dual-channel memory mode significantly helps in modern games.
Question: why not skimp a little on the motherboard? I'm using an ASRock $45 mITX mobo in my rig right now and it's doing fine. That would give you a bit of budget breathing room for a CPU cooler, or get the 470 without having to resort to getting a $20 from grandma.
Greg, I completely agree with you about AMD. I'm still using an AMD FX 6300 with a GTX 960 and I only average 35 fps in half my games...thinking about getting an Intel Xeon 1231 v3. What do you think?
Not sure why you would pick the Xeon 1231v3 of all chips to pick from. If your going used there are lots of better options as well as cheaper. I mean you can go crazy and run previous generations and even dual xeon's with mobo and probably still be cheaper than just the 1231v3 chip. If you are going new just get a i7-6700 shouldn't be much more expensive. Like $50 bucks more and with a Z170 mobo you can overclock non K's. And your in the current gen at least.
I was planning on building a pc before the end of the year but with Zen around the corner I might just wait for that instead so that the competition might mean lower prices for either side depending how well Zen does.
Sina Madani I'm willing to wait until summer next year tbh I have to ship pretty much every part of the build to my country and just the shipping usually costs a lot so adding the taxes would be......
Hi greg, what do you mean? Should I go to skylake, or brand new amd zen archiecture. Very needed to know because i'm building my new pc build for gaming, editing etc. Thanks for your opinion. BTW. greeting from Slovakia, small country in Europe :D
wow, almost my portable VR dev setup. except GPU and few details. why RAM 2666 for 2133-capable motherboard? btw, stock Intel box fan keeps my i5 6500 on 39c idle/50c video encoding + VR gaming load. oem/box difference is 6-8$. i actually modded my psu by removing fan protection cage so it sucks hot air directly from CPU fan.
Salazar Studio yep but it usually slightly affects its price, more significant if you plan to double ram later. there's also was a surprise to me that ram cooling is just a fake design trick( e.g crucial ram radiators do not even touch chips so they actually work the opposite way) and most ram uses the same Samsung chips so brand does not matter too, its just a stick color and radiator design. i also wonder if this build will consume 400w max at least my rig with rx480 sucks ~340w with oculus rift+2 sensors connected. PSU wattage is a huge price sucker around 500w margin. would love to see if you'll do actual measurements on your ITX setup. i love your videos, helped me a lot. sorry for bothering :)
Hey, I got a question. You chosed 2666Mhz for your RAM. But I couldn't find a ITX H110 Board in that pricerange supporting that much Mhz for RAM. Does it actually matter? I saw your video of the test with different RAM Speed, but would such a board supprt the higher frequenzy?
I Want to get into the i5 range then focus on gpu as your 2nd item. Such a big jump in performance from i3 to i5. Less with a i3 960 to 1060 for example.
Focus on understanding the fundamentals first, don't worry about specific builds. Look at parts in general and not individual. Not just any specific brands or anything like that for now. you just need to see what each part is for, what they do, a couple of things you need to know to understand specs not all need to be understood, but yeah.
Thanks man :) Would you mind answering this question? Would a i3-6100 be sufficient when paired with an 8GB RX480 to play Battlefield 1 at 1080p with a stable 60fps at ultra? I know a Quad Core is recommended, but an i5 would kinda stretch by budget
For smooth gaming at 4K (medium to high settings) do you recommend at GTX 1070 or 1080? I'm helping my friend out with his build and we can go really high end on every component but are stuck with the 1070, or go a bit cheaper on a number of components and squeeze in the 1080 for the same price. Opinion?
something off topic , i can copy stuff or move stuff from my external hard drive to my PC but not the other way around , when i try to transfer data to it , it simply drops down to 0 data midway through , anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it ?
- Don't worry, I'll update the channel logo and description tonight. For a name change explanation, see the last video.
Salazar Studio sounds good
I think u forgot the motherboard link in the description
NovaScathe No, it's there.
oh whoops, I mistook the board name for the h110i cpu cooler
How is possible im still running games in high settings using my old AMD phenom II X4 965 .3.6 ghz with gtx 970..

Would rather see a physical build video. But I always find ITX builds interesting anyway.
I agree.
Ian B it gets expensive
Ian B it gets expensive
youre right, its expensive. thats why i added that i liked itx builds anyway.
Now this is the perfect build! A budget PC that can meet your expectations. I was just thinking today to build the same(almost) for my kids. Good job!
Excellent build Greg.
Not very often do I see builds where I wouldn't change a single thing.
This is a great entry level gaming build.
Salazar looks and probably is clever. I like that. Some change never hurts. Keep the good work. High quality content is all I need!
I wanted to build my mom a proper gaming PC for this Christmas and this video helped me a lot.
Thanks a lot for this video!
This is a nice part list, mr Salazar. I would personally get the i3 + Rx 470 since its price dropped, but I do understand why a true quad core is also a very good pick, specially if you plan on playing GTA V or heavily modded minesweeper
LOL @ that last part.
helloworld459 I think so too but for some games it won't run at all with 2 cores, and with newer APIs the load will be better distributed among the threads, making the i5 a significantly better pick
Name change :00
You missed the last video...
Salazar Studio Id never do that! I just love the new name. And thanks for responding my night is complete
Ah, I see. Thanks for watching!
Salazar Studio you're welcome! Keep up the good work bro!
Anton, I'm looking at the screen when I'm discussing parts, and still occasionally look at the webcam. If you know my channel, then you should know that I have no problem speaking directly into a camera.

I live in the United States, and use US-based retailers. Change them as you please.
thats almost 1000$ in europe. so good to be an european
choose slightly different parts if these are overpriced in your country. It comes to about double the price here in South Africa :p
Even the cheap parts are pricy in Europe :/ Thanks taxes
Ionut Cosmin i can build a €800-€900 1060 beast in the netherlands :)
You can get a 1060 into a 600€ budget in Europe, they cost like 270€ (Yes, 6GB version)
850€ in belgium :) .... with rx 470/gtx 1050 ti
Love your videos! You put out high quality stuff!
Whoaaaaaaa I just noticed the name change! XD It's legit!
That's crazy that you've built 20 PC's in a year. I never really thought about that.
for $20dls more you can buy an rx 470 4gb. It performs like 40% more on dx11 and 50% on dx12. Right now the 1050 is not a good option.
dont worry... i just read the description...
no RX 470's fit in the elite 110
Tom/Kate Fedrick you can fit a 1080 in there...
Julian Grimoldi max graphics card length 8.3 inches. shortest RX 470 is 8.6 inches (single fan XFX) - go look up the stats
Just ditch the ssd get the cheapest gtx 1060 and you will be playing at 1080p ultra no fps dips
or just buy the 1tb hdd later on when you have the money.
or wait another week or 2 and buy everything
Great video Greg!

This is great ! A friend of mine is thinking about joining the PC Master Race and he has a budget of 500 - 600 USD
Salazar bro, Thank you very much for this video. I'm new to this stuff and I guess I'll go with this build, even though I've a budget of $1000+, but as a starter I'm cool with this.
Wait, when did I subscribe to Salazar Studio??? hmmm.....
It used to be called Science Studio. He must have change it within the past few days.
First Awesomesauce Network became BitWit, then Tech Yes City became Tech City, now Science Studio became Salazar Studio. Who's next?
JK Enargun Very mature.
+JK Enargun - hmm... that was a very mature response to the lack of maturity response .... lol
tec syndicate to crit tv
do you already have your hands on a GTX 1050/TI?
I'd just keep my 770 for now :/
for 20dls more you can buy an rx 470 witch performs like 40% more. the 1050 ti is just not a good deal. In the other hand... the 1050 (no ti) is a much better card than the rx 460

Still like your channel, though. Where are you from?
Family is from Spain.
I have like the most spanish last name ever, i can relate dude.
Cool!
Mine´s Mexican af.
i still feel science studio greg.. nice build for an alternate PC
5:36 Lol, my mini-ITX PC with an i5-6500 and reference RX-480 works just fine with a 300W PSU
Not a bright idea. Period.
Salazar Studio Meh, it's not ideal and I don't really recommend it, but I've tuned some settings and measured power draw from the wall, and it's sitting at about 250W max during Firestrike.
Have you tried stressing both your CPU and GPU simultaneously? Slightly curious now ^_^
Salazar Studio There was a point when I was playing GTA V on it with a 6600k at stock settings (wasn't measuring power draw though). I do have the 480 undervolted -100mV from stock, running at 1250 MHz.

Dang 300 watt I don't know if I would push the psu that hard and how do the power supply sound when you game on it?

finally back to the old days
You have great content! Keep it up!
Nice new vid, love the new channel name. If you can you should do some more videos on your channel with Jacob.

I'm very impressed.
Agreed. Made correction. Thanks for pointing this out.
I appreciate your unwavering support. I hope you stick around!
SO glad I found my pc Guru!!!
I created a pretty equall pc for around 600$ too. I'm glad the master shaded my choise

you'd have to shave off that case too because the c7 cpu cooler definitely won't fit in it. I just built a system in this case and except for maybe one or two cpu coolers you are pretty limited to just a stock one with the way the psu mounts above the motherboard.
Why not get a modular PSU? You can get one for the same cost, and it's worth it to have less cables, better airflow, and therefore less heat.
You can only get one for the same cost after a mail in rebate (the money from which you won't see for several months).
hey the msi h110i is back in stock but may take a day or two to ship at least for us

In terms of gaming, 1GHz frequency difference changes almost nothing. I've proven this in a series of videos.
Salazar Studio true that's why the 6400 is value king

nah imma get that shadowplay, thanks.
Just curious, do you know networking stuff? An example could be CCNA.

RAM frequency doesn't matter. Pick whatever you'd like. Games don't "require" 3GHz+. That is a downright fallacy, and I've proven it in a late video.
I vote for FX-83X0 & RX 470 combo over this! :3
I love AMD, but I wouldn't build a pc with an AMD cpu until Zen fully launches.
Evan Bryner
I made mine in 2014 but I would pick it again considering the prices for a i5... o3o
BurningBroadcast
Depends on where ya live! :D
+Salazar Studio Why not going with a Mini itx z170 asrock Motherboard, its support Overclocking and with it you can easily overclock the i5 6400 to 6600 territory
its arround 70-80$ if you looked carefully
i would love to know your opinion about it
I just bought an Nvidia 1050 Ti to replace my current graphics card. I have two systems, one with an FX 6100 and an i5 2400. Will I see significant increases in gaming performance if I put the card into the i5 system instead of the FX 6100 system? The i5 is in a small form factor case, so if i wanted to use it, I would either have to put it int he other computer's case, or buy a new power supply, and hard drive for it.
nice build can you upload an upgrade to this in a week or so?
Yes. I never said an aftermarket cooler was necessary. It'll just quiet things down a bit.
One thing I've learned with budget gaming PC's Is always buy a better Processor as they tend to outlive the Graphics Card
You speak the truth
I really like those acoustic panels you have; What are they called?
Could you please post the PC part picker link to the build mate? $600 in the US is around $1,200 or even $1,500 in Australia
Try finding an ITX board under $50...
Salazar Studio Oh wow my mistake. The mobo cost me $65... (My friend's mATX mobo was the one for 45 bucks)
Yeah, not enough to make a difference...
You'll be waiting longer than you might realize, and Intel's CPUs are well-established and offer decent enough performance for the money.
Sina Madani I'm willing to wait until summer next year tbh I have to ship pretty much every part of the build to my country and just the shipping usually costs a lot so adding the taxes would be......
Would this case fit a Micro ATX motherboard? If not, what is the best Micro ATX case under $50?
Why does this video seem a lot lower quality?
Clash of da clans Wasn't using studio cam.
Would a pc like this be good for streaming? Be able to handle games and stream at good fps?
RAM frequency doesn't matter.
Was the black watch in the intro build yours? if yes, what brand is it?
Hey, I got a question. You chosed 2666Mhz for your RAM. But I couldn't find a ITX H110 Board in that pricerange supporting that much Mhz for RAM. Does it actually matter? I saw your video of the test with different RAM Speed, but would such a board supprt the higher frequenzy?
question : does those foam can dampen the sound..?
A noob Question. Does the motherboard include built-in Wifi receiver?
changing the form factor could make this cheaper and probably better because I say a z170 board for only 10 dollars more than the one here
If this is supposed to be a gaming build, i'd recommend changing the cpu to a i3 6100 and the gpu to a rx 480
Read description and note in video...
Salazar Studio ah, thanks.
I would use the Sugo SG13, it looks a bit better than the 110 IMO
Greg I noticed that the MOBO and the ram speeds didn't match. I think a Kingston Hyper X will work. Correct me if I'm wrong.
They don't have to match. They were just cheap on PCPP.
Salazar Studio oh ok. Just wasn't sure. I saw the speed that the mobo had listed on Partpicker. And a different speed for the ram. Wasn't sure. Thanks
I have a GTX 960 and a i3 6300. Would you suggest upgrading these at all during Cyber Monday maybe?
I Want to get into the i5 range then focus on gpu as your 2nd item. Such a big jump in performance from i3 to i5. Less with a i3 960 to 1060 for example.
So this pc can run a good amount of games ? I'm new to building a PC.
Also what is a good tower case for this ? Please help me
Focus on understanding the fundamentals first, don't worry about specific builds. Look at parts in general and not individual. Not just any specific brands or anything like that for now. you just need to see what each part is for, what they do, a couple of things you need to know to understand specs not all need to be understood, but yeah.
Hey, I've built in a CM Elite 110 before, DO NOT get a non-modular PSU.
Cable cramming is possible and well-worth it on a budget.
Salazar Studio
Oh it is possible, I had to do it for a while but jeez it took so long just to get the psu installed.

lol
Would the 120GB be enough for installing Windows and a few other "basic" programs like a browser, VLC, WinRar and all?
More than enough.
Has Salazar ever made a video talking about the difference between cores and logical threads?
Yes. See my Hyperthreading video.
Salazar Studio will do. Thanks.
Opinion?
EVAG Gtx 1060 Sc 3GB just for 199$ on amazon... Why not chose that,..??
What about a low-powered (ZFS) NAS build? Would love to see what you make of that ;)
You could save more money by sticking to 2133MHz memory as H110 supports a maximum speed of 2133MHz.
I don't have the money right now to upgrade to a Intel mobo and cpu so what AMD cpu do you recommend to match with the gtx 970
no no greg, you should never take money from your grandma! you have to wait until christmas so she slips you a 50 when greeting you :D
Can you show me what gaming pc build you will buy for 700$ for 1080p gaming not the high end 1440p and 4k gaming?
did you film this with a potato? not that it matters for content, but didn't you have like sony fs7 or red dragon?
*uses pcpartpicker* *doesnt include link in the description*
Do you build these pcs for people you know? Just wondering because you said you built 40 of these already.
LUL don't think I didn't hear that little cuss 6:30
Wait, did rx 470 fit on cooler master 110 case?
Will FX 6350 bottleneck RX 470 or RX 480?
What about FX 8350?
Whats the reason behind that motherboard and not an H110m?
something off topic , i can copy stuff or move stuff from my external hard drive to my PC but not the other way around , when i try to transfer data to it , it simply drops down to 0 data midway through , anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it ?
rx 470 + i5 6400 will run 1080p 60fps on all current games?
Just purchased an overclocked MSI 1050ti... Would it be worth it to spend the extra 50$ and get a 470 ?
