- Rob Zombie returned to the Firefly Family with The Devil's Rejects. To date, it's arguably his most popular film and one of the few that I would praise overall.

Fun fact: The Mom that Captain Spaulding steals the car from is actually played by P.J Soles from the first Halloween.
R.I.P. Matthew Mcgrory who play Tiny in the first two Firefly films.
Every movie had someone pass. Grandpa in first movie, Tiny in second & Sid in third
@@HiphopFaded yes I did know that.
This is a movie I don't get in the mood to watch often but I do like it. The best Halloween costume I ever did was dressing as captain Spaulding with the look he had in this movie
The only Rob zombie film I enjoyed To me this is the Texas chainsaw massacre sequel we never got
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, now there is one IP that they should have gave to Rob Zombie.
You know I’m not sure why but I think RZ should be given that IP to work it I’d be interested in seeing a zombie TCM film
This is easily Zombie’s best, but for some reason I find House of 1000 Corpses his most rewatchable
Actually house of 1000 corpses is more that vein, not sure how this movie is similar at all to tcm
@@skinnedaliverocktv8578 I’m saying devils rejects is the sequel. It’s where they get caught and are on the run.
The tutti frutti thing is because the family is actually acting like a family and not psychotic people for once
Cody, my dude. First off, great review as per usual. Gotta respectfully disagree on a few points though. (I’m one of those people who hold this up as a masterpiece). First point, the free bird scene is one the best endings ever. The entire story is told within that song and that scene. Lyrics like “Lord I can’t change.” No they can’t change. “Fly high free bird” as they drive to their certain death. It’s all so poignant on a level I did see Zombie capable of. It’s the perfect blend of audio and visual storytelling.
Second point being, the motel scene is crucial in Zombie showing us the absolute worst of these people. Not only is the scene effective in the horror aspect, but in a character one. It shows that they brutally unlikable fiends. No redeeming qualities as people. However, even after seeing them do all of that, we still somehow root for them to win out over Wydell. Only a talented writer could pull off that trick. The way you responded to the scene is how it was intended. But I get that it’s not something you can find Entertainment in. That’s preference obviously. But I do think it showcases his level of talented as a writer.
Thanks for the review, Cody. Sorry that when I comment I mostly am disagreeing with you. It’s all in a respectful sense
In all fairness I was rooting for Wydell until he got cocky
You’re quickly becoming one of the best movie reviewers on RUclips, Cody. As a fellow Cody I couldn’t be more proud lol
I am also a fellow Codi (with an I) and I love Cody simply because he also has my name 😂
@@moviemondays8796 a fellow brother! Aye
Definitely my favorite Rob Zombie movie. His writing actually works in this one’s favor.
I love the devils rejects. It has zero f’s given.
you dont get the humor of the tutti scene. it shows their bond cause Otis pulled over for ice cream. like they normal people.
This is one of my favorite horror movies and I actually like it more than the first movie
Yeah this is really the highlight of the trilogy most people like it more than the first one honestly.
I like devils rejects better 1000 corpses that movie was to out there for me lol
It’s rob zombies best movie, not saying that’s a high bar.
This is a great fucking movie.
@@zarchiarmy7966 my favorite rob zombie film
This is my favorite Rob zombie film. From the soundtrack to the locations and cast I love it. Otis is just despicable and a nasty human being but damn he has a screen presence in this film and my favorite bill Mosley role. One of my favorite endings to film also.
I didn't hate Halloween 2007, but Devils Rejects is definitely Zombie's best. It's brutal, hard hitting, tight, but also slightly more accessible to a larger audience
That whole middle act with the victims in the hotel - take away the talent behind the camera, and take away the budget, and you basically have Wrong Turn 5. That's basically when I mentally checked out, the hopelessness of this trilogy just isn't for me. But still enjoyed the review Cody!
Another killer review as always Cody!
Loving the work you put in these videos, very entertaining to watch. Hyping me up for the coming Halloween with all these horror reviews! I can't wait to see what else you have in store!!
I'm a massive fan of Rob Zombies work and this is easily the best!! One of my personal favourite horrors of all time too. Spaulding is the heart and soul of this movie, he cracks me up every time and Otis is a fuckin badass. Tuti Fuckin Fruity!
You liked Lords of Salem? 🤣🤣
@@bentramer4281 yeah I didn't mind it actually. Wasnt the best but I found it enjoyable.
I love this trilogy
I know it's messed up but the part where the guy is looking for his buddy roy and says "is Roy in there?" Makes me and my brother laugh so much. But the messed up part is when Sheri Moon leads him into the Motel room and then they immediately kill him but right before he dies he says "Roy help!" just makes us laugh our ass off even more. I don't know why it's actually pretty sad if you think about it but the delivery is just fucking hilarious.
This movie and 1000 Corpses are the ONLY RZ films I liked
Extremely black comedy 🤣
@@dong.corleone I liked his first Halloween as a Rob Zombie version of Halloween and I liked his animated flick after that starting with Halloween 2 I haven't really liked any of his movies much.
@@dong.corleone yeah those are good.
@@Stats2BackIt
lol true.
The chicken fcker scene is absolutely hilarious. In my opinion I think his humor is lost on many. It makes sense to why it's lost because many of his films are expected to be intense and filthy so the dark humor is felt as gross and tasteless. That is one of the greatest scenes of any of his films. I do think the middle part is still hard to watch even though many movies after would take a scene like that and make it even more disgusting and in your face
I don't think I ever laughed harder in a theater than during that scene.
I know I liked it too. When Charlie said you think I want to stick my d### in some chicken and go aaaaaah!? while waving his hands was so dang hilarious and surreal at the same time. I loved it.
Its childish edginess but i do enjoy that about rob
I saw this movie back when it came out and it shocked the hell out of me. To this day it has always been extremely intense whenever I think about it in my head, but after seeing Terrifier 2 tonight…this movie doesn’t seem so intense lol. I think I’m gonna watch this again and see how its intensity holds up, because Terrifier 2 was fucking insane
16 years apart, and Rob lost his touch...Wonder if he will ever do another slasher, 3 from hell was a big step down from 15 years back sadly
This movie more crazier than House Of 1,000 Corpse the hotel scene was so intense and to much I think this best installment.
When I hear the name Rob Zombie, this is what I think of first. His style, dialogue, mean spirited characters, and music choice. This defines him and I find great enjoyment in the movie but Rob Zombie for sure has a certain style. Great review though! 💪🏻💪🏻
Perfect timing on these Rob Zombie movie reviews. I just saw him live for the first time today.
Great review Cody!! I really like this movie! My favourite Rob Zombie movie! Tutti F*cking Frutty! Sid Haig and Ken Foree are so funny in this movie!
Also, the ending scene to this movie is my favorite end scene ever
To quote the tenacious d concert movie -
Freebird? Really dude? Lol.
Although I love it too 😁
This is one of those movies I actually will watch on a regular basis. It makes me laugh. Even the chicken discussion...I remember seeing it in theaters and just laughing until tears at the absurdity and I still will. I think in all honesty, those types of scenes are just sitting there to show you exactly what kinda people we are dealing with. Remind you that while they are becoming endearing about midway through they are still batsh*t. The fact that Rob Zombie actually made you feel bad for what starts to happen to them...that's pretty amazing because no where should we ever feel that, lol. This is probably the only film of his that I can quote and honestly enjoy. The Halloween movies are fine. They are watchable. I won't turn them if they are the only things on, but this one I will randomly grab from time to time on my own. I was really sad at how meh 3 From Hell was and honestly I kinda don't even include it as canon.
This is my favorite of the three. It's where we get to know the Fireflies on their most basic level. Not the campy and over the top halloween cult. Made me want a prequel. Could you imagine a young adult Otis and a teen kid Baby?
That's what part 3 should have been a prequel or a spin-off focusing on doctor satan.
It took me quite a while before I saw any of Zombie's movies, since I wasn't really expecting much from them, but I've been pleasantly surprised by most. This, along with Halloween II (another one I know you liked), really worked for me.
Very glad you gave this one another chance, and that it grew on you.
Oh fuck. The opening credits of this movie is so good!!!! I love the song choice and 100% have it on my Halloween and Running playlists. ♡♡
there is a scene on Halloween II. in which Richard Brake is talking about sex with another dude while driving a car. on the back is a 'dead' Michael. then he wakes up and kills them. that scene is in the opening of the movie and is just like Cody said. that scene in which two characters talk about random shit.
Yeah William Forsythe Johnson
This possibly my favorite film of Rob Zombie. I enjoyed his Halloween for what it was, hated Halloween 2, didn't really enjoy House of 1000 Corpses and didn't see his later films because I could tell that while they may be visually interesting, the scripts would be absolutely dreadful.
I agree with the reviews, Zombie needs to find a better writer to collaborate with and better write out his visions and storys with better dialogue and structure.
God I can't wait for the Rob Zombie Halloween and Halloween II reviews. Those are gonna be fun.
he's already reviewed both of them
Lolz
@@thedonald011 well I'm assuming he's redoing them for this director series. Or am I wrong?
@@jasonvoorhees310 he's reviewing the firefly trilogy (house of 100, devil's rejects, 3 from hell) not all rob zombie films
@@thedonald011 ok
3 from hell was awesome in my opinion. Very underrated movie from Rob zombie.
This is my favorite Rob Zombie film, the music, the acting, the story, the characters, the performances, the cinematography is amazing to, the soundtrack has old songs, the gore and carnage. My number 1 favorite Rob Zombie film
Captain Spaulding is a memorable character and great villain
Yessss this was my favorite of the 3. Awesome reviews Cody!
Cody, you are the best movie reviewer out there. Keep up the great work!
I think "tooty fuckin fruity" was just Rob's way of showing us that the Fireflys have inside jokes like normal people.
I was 10 when I saw this movie. This is the only one of his films I still like.
Ahhhhhh, ya finally enjoyed one. I super love this movie in that I think it was a great piece of art because it Disturbed me deeply. It made me very uncomfortable some of the scenes but then at the end I'm crying at the shootout scene. I don't know if it was nostalgia brought along by the song but these three horrible villains were tugging at my heartstrings. Only Rob Zombie can do that. He made me sad when Mike Myers died. For all of his flaws he can create great tragic villains.
Tarantino tried to do a horror movie and it sucked. Death Proof is the antithesis of Grindhouse movies. It was overly long, no nudity, barely violent and pointless. All it did was feed his foot fetish.
People give Tarantino too much credit. If any Rob Zombie movie unchanged was credited as being written by Tarantino it would be compared to The Godfather.
Would you review dee sniders strange land?
Roger Ebert also loved the last house on the left he gave it three stars and half
I love this movie so much as well as the ending I like to pretend the firefly family saga ended with this film
nailed it
How could you not like the chicken F scene? It’s comedic gold
It's his choice
THIS ONE^-^❣️❣️ I saw it when I was maybe 13 and fell in LOVE🥰 And I was so pumped when I found out about 3 From Hell; saw it with my bestie in October 2019 at a special showing. They gave us posters at the theatre!♡♡ One of my most prized possessions. ☆☆
Cody are you still doing the horror franchise tier lists
That final scene is GOLD
I go back & forth but this is one of my favorites from Zombie. For whatever reason, the stylized violence/carnage works here with the grainy cinematography. I love the music throughout, the vile characters & even Sherri Moon here. The dialogue is still some what a mixed bag but overall works enough for this film.
Man, it's been years since I've seen this movie...I gotta rewatch it. I also watched it as a teenager not knowing what was going on!
The chicken scene will always be a classic. LOL
I have watched this several times. I love the psychos in this film. It’s weird but I don’t feel sorry for the victims at all because the killers are so darn likable 😂 Favorite Zombie movie. Also, the Tutti Fucking Fruity is popular because you have vile killers being childish and fun. It humanizes them. Also, you analyzed this movie way too much. This movie is about vile people doing vile things without any motivation other than them being vile.
I like how the lady at the brothel thinking about Joseph campus Princess Leia to bring in new clients. And how the owner was afraid to bring in people wanting to be with Sex Robots.
Droids boss. They call them droids.
spent Christmas Day watching The Devil's Rejects, Halloween and Lord's Of Salem.
Been watching Rob Zombie films on almost every Christmas since 2014.
"Glad to see another Iron Maiden fan!" "Love your reviews brother!"...👍
I really see eye to eye with you on Rob Zombie. Stylistically, musically and in some cases thematically he is a great director, but I rarely feel the urge to watch one of his films for the dialogue alone.
I remember in 2005. I went to Ozzfest 05. Rob Zombie had beach balls with the Devil’s Rejects logo on them.
William Forsythe is the single best thing in the entire Firefly trilogy
My all time favorite Rob Zombie movie. Might have to watch this one again soon
This movie is way better than Part one. Crazy , wild and rough as hell! Love the Soundtrack too :-) great Video, Cody!
"Chinese eee, Japanese eee, Dirty knees sss, Look at these eee" 😁
You really need to revisit RZ's Halloween, I still stand by it's the best Halloween. Honestly, I always like Sherri Moon, lol
Great review Cody but I have a question. Did you liked Ken Foree’s character? You didn’t talked about him other than the chicken scene… I loved his scenes with Sid!
BTW Cody, the whole "I'm the devil & I'm here to do the Devils work" is some Manson fam shit. Tex Watson said that to the Tate peeps I'm pretty sure.
Yeah in aware. Zombie is infatuated with Manson it seems.
His best movie by far, I just wish I knew how to get him back to this level. As it is honestly the only good one he did. Agree on the git, making this something I would only watch 3 or 4 times @Cody
The movie critic and chicken farm scenes specifically are my favorites, hahahaha.
Hey I love the fired chicken ad 🤣
Love your shirt
I put this THE LORDS OF SALEM & HALLOWEEN II as my top three favorite Rob Zombie films with HALLOWEEN II being my favorite both Rob Zombie films and the franchise
Will you ever do some Dario Argento films?? Deep Red?? Suspiria?? Tenebrae??
I love this movie originals a lot of fun they are both different
Like you this was also my first Rob Zombie movie. I liked this way more than house of 1000 corpses.
The music they used was fantastic!
Another traumatizing movie from my childhood lol
I really Like William Forsythe he’s an Underrated supporting actor My Favorite Films Of him are The Devil’s Rejects, Firestorm, Out For Justice, Virtuosity, The Substitute, The Rock, Blue Streak, Freedomland, Halloween 2007, 88 Minutes, & Cold Pursuit
My favorite Rob movie hands down! 🤍
One of my favorite movies
The Elvis and Groucho Marx scene is GOLD
I love this movie and I have watched it many many times including in the theatre when it came out. I was also struck like you that somehow I was rooting for these horrible killers over the Sheriff to a degree. I also really enjoyed the scene with Mother Firefly and the Sheriff as she just keeps pushing his buttons until he really starts his descent into madness and kills her up close and personal with the knife. I think Robs movie style is not for everyone but I enjoy pretty much all of his stuff to varying degrees. Great review on your part but clearly you enjoy a different style of Horror than this.
I always think of Happy Gilmore at the end
The point of the middle section is to totally drive home how horrible these killers are so you totally hate them that way when it gets to the cop being the villain you become surprised that you are now rooting for them. I will agree the section drags on a little too long as for violence or sexual violence in horror movies as long as the violence feels appropriate for the film it's in I could care less what they do to me movies are fictional horror is many things including gross and disturbing as long as the violence works in context with the plot then I personally don't care.
The Devils Rejects is my favorite movie of all time! Love Rob Zombie
Love Sig Haid in this. Plus Ken Foree, and DDP? The best Sheri Moon performance, and Bill Moseley killing it. Best Rob Zombie movie to me by far.
Are you going to do a review the haunted world of El Super Beasto
No
Great shirt. Love Maiden
Way better edited and more focused than the first and agree better acted but the message is kinda incoherent per say and or better done in other films with a message of vengance or violence, zombie should do more dark comedy instead of horror the chicken scene is one of the funniest scenes ever
Skip “3 From Hell” … the end of the Devils Rejects should have stayed the end of the story . Love those 2 movies … truly inspired . I have not liked any of his others after that . 🎥🎃🎞
He usually does every film when he reviews a film franchise, no exceptions
I guess I'm just immature but that chicken fucking scene is hilarious 😆
Sheri Moon Zombie's brother has a cameo as a police officer in the opening shootout scene. He was originally only on the set as a visitor, but director Rob Zombie put him in the scene because he knew how to handle firearms well.
Rob Zombie stated in an interview that, up until 31 (2016), 'The Devil's Rejects' was probably the hardest film of his to cut down in order to receive an R rating.
Chris Jericho auditioned for the role of Rondo, but was told he was "too pretty" for the part. Danny Trejo was cast instead.
Final film of Matthew McGrory. He died just over a month after its release.
The blue van's plate spells AKU, which means "evil" in Japanese.
Won Most Vile Villain(s) (for The Firefly Family) and Best Horror Movie at The 2006 Scream Awards.
This movie had to be cut seven times in order to receive an R rating from the MPAA. According to Rob Zombie, the censors had an issue with the film's overall tone, specifically the motel scene between Priscilla Barnes and Bill Moseley. This scene had to be cut by two minutes for the theatrical release; the cut footage was restored in the DVD version.
Body count: 19.
The names "Firefly", "Captain Spaulding" and "Otis B. Driftwood" are all names of Groucho Marx characters in various The Marx Brothers films.
The dream-like sequences that Otis saw of himself, Captain Spaulding and Baby during the ending were actually clips of candid footage of the three actors that was shot on the final day of filming. After wrapping up on the last day, Rob Zombie filmed Sherri Moon Zombie, Bill Moseley and Sid Haig as they had some post-wrap up fun and said their "good byes" into the camera.
Both this and House of 1000 Corpses (2003) were dedicated to actors who had appeared in the films but died prior to their release.
Sheri Moon Zombie does not see this film as a sequel: "It's more like some of the characters from House of 1000 Corpses (2003) came on over, and now they're the Devil's Rejects."
The name "Charlie Altamont" was inspired by The Rolling Stones documentary Gimme Shelter (1970), in which a Hell's Angels gang member hired to work security stabbed a youth to death at Altamont Speedway in northern California. In this film, Charlie "gives shelter" to the Firefly family.
Sheri Moon Zombie was emotionally drained during the shooting of a scene with William Forsythe that required her to cry. She was so affected by the scene--which took two to three hours to film--that she did not come to work for two days afterward
It’s time. We need pumpkin head reviews.
You gotta review 30 days of night definitely a gory movie but a awesome watch for sure!
This is probably his best movie but I gotta fast forward they the sexual assault part in that hotel room, I can't watch that shit anymore but for some reason. But all the gore and carnage candy doesn't bother me at all in movies lol
Who would win in a fight Otis and baby vs Mickey and Mallory from natural born killers ??
Bad ass movie! Rob got Style for days
I love this movie!
I do not like any other Rob Zombie movie (well Halloween II is okay).
The dialogue is great!
I also bought the soundtrack (those two Terry Reid songs are a huge highlight!), and in between each song is a snippet of some of that golden dialogue.
This is an absolute classic. Great tone (unlike House Of 1,000 Corpses, which I cannot stand), and something Wes Craven or Tobe Hooper would have been proud to turn out (it's way better than The Hills Have Eyes & all of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels).
Really enjoyed this movie even my mom in her late 70s at the time liked it, also I seem to be in the minority but I enjoyed The Munsters , thanks!
Hey man would you review The Sadness please 👍
Love this one!!
I loved that he made this a on the run instead of doing the same thing unlike 3 from hell which tried to do another on the run movie he could have made it a different genre to make it a awesome trilogy
Now seeing this it’s like damn why didn’t they go to him for the Texas chainsaw 2003 remake or the sequel to that one as well. Shit could’ve been crazy
A lot of people like this one a lot and don't care for house.
Personally I think House is better than this just because of the amount of creativity that went into it, even it it really is just a bunch of shock vignettes strung together into a 'plot'. The Firefly family on its own don't honestly have enough personality for me to carry a film on its own. You need the haunted house to be a character of its own.
There's a few moments in this and even a few in 3 from Hell that stick with you and are bleak and well crafted from a horror perspective, but Zombie has never been able to sell me on that vision as a filmmaker.
What I wish is that House of 1000 Corpses just had more of those bleak scenes instead of some of the weaker kills and you're looking at a movie no one would ever talk down about. A small amount of them scattered throughout 3 films is what waters them all down.
But honestly I've said it for a long time but Zombie does not have the mental organizational skills needed for filmmaking. He can do videos and music because they're much more about aesthetic but movies are about choreography and pacing and gravity and all manner of small things and he just doesn't have a lot of skill in all of those areas.
And you've said it before on some of the other reviews (fine work by the way) but there definitely comes a point where homage becomes derivative and he just doesn't seem to know where that is.
His absolute greatest strength, however, that I do love and respect? He appreciates all of the horror convention character actors with a passion and casts them mercilessly throughout his films. Probably even to those films' detriment from time to time.
But when I see Dotty from Pee Wee's Big Adventure, or Tracey Walter show up in your movie? I know he shares an appreciation for those guys like I do. And that's worthy of a fist bump.
