I am new to Orthodoxy. I thought "I should have a prayer book" and I bought this one. Wonderful book. I have no clue how to use a prayer book. Lol Protestantism prepared me for nothing.
Say the morning prayers in the morning, evening prayers in the evening, and the meal time prayers when you eat. That's how I do it, at least 🙂 if you are a communing member of the Church, say the canon in preparation the day before and the thanksgiving prayers when you get home from Liturgy. There's some unsolicited advice for ya!
I've been using this for just a couple of days now. My initial thoughts: I love the typeset. The font could be a bit larger for my 50+ year old eyes, but it isn't too bad. Mine is also the deep blue color that is shown in the review above. I happen to like that, so no worries there. I love the translation and length of the morning prayers. It's beautiful and readable and the length is about as much as is reasonable, particularly on weekdays or on Sundays when we are trying to get the day going. I don't sleep well as it is so, even though we are in ROCOR, getting up even earlier to work through the Slavic version of Morning Prayers doesn't sound all that appealing. Small compline is also beautiful and readable. It's pretty long, even though it is called "small", but that is easier to schedule at night versus morning. My only real complaint is that I wish they had put the opening prayers there so we didn't have to flip back to the beginning of the book to find them. I know they are trying save pages. However, they go ahead and put both the Creed and Psalm 50 there a second time, so having the opening prayers would add little to the length of the book in comparison to those two. I wish it had Occasional Prayers, an Examination of Conscience for Confession, etc. as do most of the newer Prayer Books. I also wish it had the Lesser Hours and other prayers contained in their Book of Hours. Newer Prayer Books in the Greek tradition, such as the New Rome, are far more comprehensive in what they include, reducing the necessity buying and carrying around multiple books. This book is great in many ways, but deserves an update. Not in language or style, but in what it includes. That being said, I did go ahead and order the Book of Hours and their Psalter and I guess I can always just make up my own prayers for my children, for the sick, etc. but having a full compliment of Occasional Prayers, etc. would certainly be welcome.
Another great praybook to own...the binding, and paper, are excellent, the layout and the translation of the text are easy on eyes as well as easy in recitation of your daily prayers. Great purchase for those who are use to the Greek Orthodox format of prayerbooks.
Thank you. I'm so excited to be going to church tomorrow, even though I'm a 'nobody' (for lack of a better term) I just want to be as near to Christ as I'm allowed to be. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me for my impatience, whatever it takes takes, Your will be done. Again, thank you for the review.
I have the blessing to own their horologian as well as their trilogy. Its very interesting to try and put services together with the book I need to get my hands on a general menaion just so I can use it to it's full potential
@@OrthodoxReview I asked my spiritual father and he said as a hobby it's fine but don't go out of your way to spend 1k on a menaion just keep it simple so that's what I've done
@@8polyglot I love it, and yes it's quite large, it's best used on a icon corner with a stand, not really something to run around with, if you do want something like that just get the Pocket Book of Hours by HTM
@@OrthodoxReview thanks. I think I will go with this one then for the same reason. I'm relatively new to orthodoxy and consider having the liturgy included as a big pro especially right now during the pandemic when all the service books have been made unavailable at the parish.
I know it's about a year later but is the normal colour of this prayer book more of a aqua blue/greenish blue? It's because I believe I have a copy of that prayer book but it's not on me atm as it was delivered to my university accommodation where I'm currently away from.
Thank you for the review, I was curious to see this one, as it has a lot of fans. However I feel it should be noted that whatever the quality of this book, the monastery that produced it is in schism from the Orthodox Church and thus, by purchasing this, one is aiding schismatics. Not a good thing to do.
@@OrthodoxReview I did watch the whole video. Sorry I missed that part. Still, I feel buying newer printings might be problematic...but I suppose it is up to each person to decide how they feel about it.

I'd have to agree. HTM's publishing is fantastic
Just ordered me two copies. Thanks
I commented with a friend and we believe that their translation is MORE beautiful than the king James language!
Agreed!
If only Russian prayer books were so well put-together!

Right on. And, it seems you have the same affliction as I, as I find the work to be great fun!
How do you like their Horologion? I'm interested in getting a copy, but nervous its size will be so unwieldy that I'll never use it.

How would I decide between this one and the new rome press prayer book?
Good question. I prefer the Newrome, as it has a few more prayers, and no liturgies.

One of my favorites, I gave mine away to a non-Orthodox friend, I hope that it helps their journey to Christ and the true faith of the Apostles.

You are correct, my previous copy was a much lighter blue.
Good day. I bought this prayer book. I don’t see evening. What do you recommend
Compline is evening prayers
@@OrthodoxReviewAlso, Compline is probably the “right” evening prayer rule. It’s a meditation on death and prayers of repentance and praise.
Royal Blue is close to being Purple. This Prayer Book is Blue Sky or a light Prussian Blue
Does this prayer book contain Evening Prayers?
Nevermind, you mention that there is a service of compline. Thank you for the review!
Can this book be used in a Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church?
Just become Orthodox
