its wild so see them on KEXP after only watching them in the underground scene of Vancouver...
Insane drums and look at those guitar frets ... holy shit! And, always bass player love ... because root is down dirt and everybody gota submit to the do the dirt and excellent!
Hell yea! Drummer is otherworldly. The guitar frets are microtonal.
Not to mention the half-fretted/half fret-less bass ...
Heh heh ... I can't even see that = just hear the bends from the flat/pent to the major - I mean, I'm a violin player, but usually play bass for working bands, and love Indian music (and really all music) this is a cool band and I'd definitely go trip on their playing. There is a certain Catholic discipline to it all though. Love the matched bass and sitar/guitar. But, kinda guy metal music in a way - but I love it! Yeah, chemistry, and the drummer and all are insane!@@davelanciani-dimaensionx
Ah, now I see what you are talking about - yeah, that is the guitar, but has a low g drone string (and of course the sitar spacing? not sure, as I've only listened 2x). The bass player's soft, which works great in this context, is fretted - but he bends notes similar to unfretted. Kinda metal Indian, rifs/melody are basic, but rythim is insane, which is really all of it. Super cool!@@davelanciani-dimaensionx
Super band! Definately new favorite. Strong Mythic Sunship vibes as well.
this is great. period.
Have a nice trip!
this is sick
Yes
I’m really stoked cause I just ordered a sandwich and it got here right at lunch time! Speaking of time, it’s time to dig in!
Love seeing my friends doing what they love ❤️❤️❤️ happy for you both
What the fuck are you talking about. I didn't see them hit a single crit pill on the payload in the entire video.
A sneaky FART at 14:35

Some very interesting guitars
Hi, Tim ✨
Saw them open for Quicksand last fall. Full on sonic assault, in the best way possible.
Holy Dyna💛
ah, the microtones are always refreshing to hear!
Doing a bit of King Gizzard with the microtonal guitar. 🎵 🎶 🎸
Boom! They really took it there…
They’re really precise with their band name too 😮
It’s like Earthless meets Earth at Om’s house while drinking some JD.

Does that table in the back, feature a shrine/memorial to Darby Crash? Annihilating-Man!
"in the beginning" : Smyrna vibes
This sounds like REZN, but they got the dude from Lightning Bolt on drums
I love KEXP and the performances they promote. But did anyone else hear the lady farting at 14:32-14:36
4s fart, we could be looking at collateral damages here
19:29 what IS that beautiful monstrosity of an instrument?!?!
Keep waiting for the magic. Never arrived :(
noise rock with Middle East vibes 🤘, thanks KEXP for another great band
What's going on with the frets on the guitar? Am I seeing things?
Looks like a microtonal guitar to me, so the frets are divided in smaller units than a semitone. Never seen this before though 😮
@@SaschaLevitain You are correct on the microtonal guitar. King Gizzard was doing this too
yeh, s'alright innit?
Does anyone know who made Greg's Hybrid Bass?
@@nickk5948 Thanks!
@@nickk5948Thanks, but I mean the one the guitar player is playing. The one with the half fretless neck and sympathetic strings. Is that also a Wilcock?
@@nickk5948 Thanks man!!!
I also build freak show instruments and studied Indian classical music, so that sort of thing is very interesting for me. Thanks for the info!
Greg Valou's main instrument in New Age Doom is the custom 'hybrid bass' designed in collaboration with luthier Michael Spence, drawing inspiration from several instruments including the cello, Turkish saz and Indian sarod. It is played fingerstyle, with a stainless steel pick, or with a bow. Its unusual features include octave courses, sympathetic/harp strings and a bass banjo string. It has quartertone frets and is fretless above the 12th fret, allowing for a range of microtonal options. The body is based on the "F-style" mandocello shape, and likewise the instrument is tuned in 5ths (with the banjo string playing a bass drone). As for electronics, the guitar features custom wound humbuckers with a coil tap, 3-way-pickup selector, and dual outputs, and is amplified through two pedalboards connected to two tube guitar amps and one bass amp.
i though it was doom metal band haha, great band!
Doom fused with New Age/World music
That drummer is like the perfect crossover across Mark Greening, Dave Grohl and Zach Hill lol
is bc baja california the sea of cortez?
Thought the drummer was having a seizure at one point it was so intense. I'm not "spiritual" but the whole set was groovy. That 1/3 fretless guitar was stonking trippy.
I was going to write the same. Sick drumming 🤘
FIrst song sounds like a cross between Sonic Youth and Radiohead
no chicken head
🤘🟩🟨🟥
Primus plays bella lagosi's dead in India ...
It looks like the guitar is semi fretless ... What is the reference of this guitar ?
who farted at 14:35 ?
That snare is giving me nu-metal vibes, but it works
wtf 14:35
Well F yeah!
Ok...that's it....new favorite band
I'm in love with that bass.
Yeah I was looking to see if anyone mentioned what kind it was, I don't recognize the brand. you know?
@@felleroerdere3351 Maybe it's a Wilcock bass.
@@felleroerdere3351 @perraccca it is a wilcock bisonic!
@@felleroerdere3351yep, its a Wilcock.
With a Curtic Novak goldfoil pickup!
FUCK YES! Thanks KEXP!!
Swear to god i hear a wet fart at 14:35
