- The Hawthorn Banjo company sent me a style 7 top tension banjo to play and checkout about a week ago. Lucky for me the #11 clock key was nowhere to be found inside the case. This meant I had to pay a visit to my longtime friend & current IBMA banjo player of the year I got to catch up with current IBMA banjo player of the year Ned Luberecki. I'll just tell you right now, we had zero fun talking about and playing these two great banjos! ;)
All the best and keep rollin,
RC

Just ordered a Hawthorn RB-7. Super excited for it.
Wow that Hawthorn sounds GREAT!!!
As close as I'm ever likely to be to actually hanging with these two awesome pickers!
Man I want one of them there top tensions.
(AND RIP Robin Smith. He built a radius fretboard for my Granada and it’s absolutely fantastic. )
RIP Robin Smith.
I think the alloy used in the Hawthorn flange and tension hoop is brass based rather than zinc based and that may account for some of the weight difference.
Super killer!!!
I have a hawthorn bow tie and I love it
I think the Hawthorn had a more pure tone, with a little more warmth, I guess some of that could be other factors like the picks and the picker 🤔
Definitely like the Hawthorn better with the head cranked down,I like Punch
It looks as if the Hawthorn’s a bit smaller than the Gibson.
Excellent playing but not my favouret banjo for tone. Still prefer Gold star and Gibson so far and Prucha makes some nice banjos, but that's just my personal taste. Being solid resonators must make these even heavier than the norm? Great video guys.👍
pickin as nice as the talkin
My banjo came with a tool that doesn't fit. Brand new.
