While you folks reap praises on JT neither he or Kool and the Gang had the same success after he bolted from the group. Their success was ultimately intertwined. Some artists just aren't intended to be solo acts.
Kool and The Gang, no doubt one of the best soul, funk old school bands of all-time.They are marvelous.JT the lead singer back in the days. They have classy music and a joy to listen to.
Diffferent approaches to me. But I did favour Kool and the Gang simply because their tunes got me moving on the dance floor much more and I preferred their tunes. EWF had a greater appeal globally and engendered the same response: you could not resist the groove. Cheers..
Great song! Kool & The Gang were my favorite group throughout the 80s. This song reminds me of "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," the rhythm, horns, and falsetto
Aw man, heard a bit of this song during the introduction of The Apollo Theater being rewarded a Kennedy Center Honor in DC, and it brought me back! Had to look it up by humming into Google song search, and it worked! 😂 I think I had this cassette back in the day and actually saw Kool & the Gang live in Vegas at the Westgate during Superbowl this year! It was so fun, everyone singing and dancing......music back then so much better than now.
That's what brought me here as well. It was the part when they were talking about the sandman, and I heard a snippet of it. I went to Shazam on my phone, hoping it would be able to catch that little snippet that was played, and here we both are. I've listened to it about 75x's since then 😊
Rest in a Sea of tranquility GEORGE FUNKY BROWN. THe only original member left is ROBERT " KOOL " BELL They all passed away. CHARLES SMITH /KHALIS BAYAN /DENNIS D.T THOMAS/ CLIFFORD ADAMS/ and GEORGE BROWN 😢😢😢😢 J.T will be 71 in AUGUST 16th
Love Kool and the gang. Brings me back to happy times....dancing no worries. Happiness...C'mon people....let's get it together and get along. Listen to good music such as this and relax
so many memories, real music. I had the opportunity to go to a Kool and the Gang concert in the 1990s. What an evening, never seen such an atmosphere. This is lacking these days.
Hi ! D lovers of oldies, "Robert Kool Bell, James Taylor" these duo and others made "Kool and d Gang" no doubt about it they made d mark, that cannot be forgotten in music world
Back when Musicians never cussed in their songs, and the music was meaningful. I’m glad that i grew up listening to Oldies instead of the bs today, the music today is trash. Oldies is all my old man ever listened to, even till this day he bumps all these old skool jams, lol. Brings back good memories, and i’m 28 now.
Absolutely great memory of this record in 81'/82', remembering it in one of the fantastic disco clubs that I used to go to in the late 70's/early 80's , and the great times I had along with my friends meeting many attractive and smartly dressed girls on and off the dance floor. The disco scene in the mid 70's to early 80's was glorious.
This song does not get the air time it deserves. It's such an underrated song, the vocals and groove are absolutely epic!! This is real music!! I was born in 1980 yet i will gladly keep the 70's vibe going in my soul for the rest of my days. I do not like where music has gone. Its so inharmonious and empty.
Well sad.....check out Fat Larry's Band....Earth, Wind and Fire and Atlantic Starr.....and the brilliant Ronnie Laws "All for you"....so much great music then....me? I was born in 1958 so already in my 20s even then LOL
Martin Platt My late Dad had most of those in his collection Martin and more. He was very much a soulful music man. He loved Motown, soft rock and the r&b funk era etc. I literally grew up with this music. Real music by real talented artists who loved their craft.
Martin Platt It's ok Martin i actually read it as well said initially, but then saw afterwards that it said sad. I knew what you meant to say though. Thanks
I was a bartender in a disco in the early 80s and they let me DJ some. I opened with this song some nights and people would flock to the dance floor. Looked like a stampede.
Dude I'm so jealous, me and my old soul listen to Kool & TG, The Whispers, The Gap Band, the Disco greats... while practising basketball. I tell you, you've never seen anyone get into a "groove" like me listening to "Let's Groove Tonight" haha
This song makes move the body still after over fourty years!!!! The power of this kind music! 70s and 80s were magical! Thanks for sharin'💃🏼🎶💃🏼🎵💃🏼🎼💃🏼🎧💃🏼🎤💃🏼🎸💃🏼🎷💃🏼🎺💃🏼🎻💃🏼👍💃🏼🤙💃🏼🤟💃🏼😍💃🏼🤩💃🏼🔥💃🏼💥💃🏼💜💃🏼🙏💃🏼

Damn, this brings back memories. When this album was released there was actually a TV commercial for it and this is the song that played. (Also, in his falsetto and in his dance movements, JT is giving a whole lot of Off the Wall MJ. Just saying.)
Brings tears watching and listening. Was in my early teens. Dad was expat, took us to Enugu, Nigeria. My boys George, Andy and Noel, where y'all at? We grooved to Ronnie Bell, JT and the gang. We grooved to the Whispers, Rafael Cameron, Fatback Band, Lionel, can't forget Cameo. Had my best teenage years back at the mother continent.
Being born in 1978 I would say this music is before my time. However, love music through the 1960s/1970s/1980s. The music is just timeless! So "beautifully" expressed by all those that music back then
I'm sure my mum played this at her 1981 house party 🥳 she loves this group. Xmas lights in the lounge for dancing and mixtapes on the hifi. Buffet and drinks in the kitchen, all family and neighbours invited while me n my sis packed off to nanny's and gramps for a sleepover. Ahh mummy I love you so much.🥰❤
Folks... "Kool and The Gang" not only wrote their own songs but they wrote and produced several others... And James "JT" Taylor ... the lead singer wrote also!
My boy JT does his thang! Homeboy just jumped on this joint with the Debarge falsetto!! This particular album "Something Special" showcased his range a ton especially with "Take My Heart (you can have it).
Michael Jackson in concert tops Kool and the Gang and I've seen both in concert. Both were awesome, but MJ was the bomb, he sold out stadiums, arenas were to small and not big enough for his mega superstar status.
I remember playing this in the middle of a storm in P.R. back in 1980. My boom box was connected to a car battery and we had a little party while the lights were out and a deluge was falling outside our house. I enjoyed everything these guys put out on those early days of the 1980s
Thanks for groups like you, Kool and the gang, without question your talent or rather talents approach legend to say the least. Thanks so much for this Angel Soft, excellent yet wonderful looking out for me as well as the rest of the whole world.
they made some brilliant tunes late 70s early 80s.
Up until the Mid 80's.
I really like this song, so many memories.

Best of all of them, but " Straight Ahead " a close second 🎉
2022: Keep steppin... don't let nothin stop ya. ❤
James"JT"Taylor and his distinctive persona and vocals was the main draw of Kool and the Gang in the 80s.
While you folks reap praises on JT neither he or Kool and the Gang had the same success after he bolted from the group. Their success was ultimately intertwined. Some artists just aren't intended to be solo acts.
I just love them with JT. My favorite group.

Newly inductee of the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Kool and the Gang! Long time overdue but finally they made it
Kool and The Gang, no doubt one of the best soul, funk old school bands of all-time.They are marvelous.JT the lead singer back in the days. They have classy music and a joy to listen to.
Very few good bands like this around. & if they're around, they're not on mainstream radio.
The biggest rivalry to earth wind and fire.??. I think kool by a nose. Both legendary.
Diffferent approaches to me. But I did favour Kool and the Gang simply because their tunes got me moving on the dance floor much more and I preferred their tunes. EWF had a greater appeal globally and engendered the same response: you could not resist the groove. Cheers..
