Shiny Hunting Tutorial - The Most OPTIMAL Way to SR for Bill's Eevee in Gold/Silver/Crystal

- Hey, guys! Eevee/Umbreon is the third target in my Crystal DTQ and I figured I would make a short video in order to explain a couple of the optimizations you can do when hunting it!

Basically:
**Press yes to nickname eevee*
**If eevee is female: soft reset*
**If eevee is male: keep it and check pokemon party screen*
**If eevee has 53, 54, 56, 57, or 58 hp: soft reset*
**If eevee has an hp value of 52 or 55: check it's stats screen to see if it's shiny*
**If eevee is not shiny: soft reset*

watched a few videos on this hunt to make sure it was the same info and that I wasnt getting wrong info but your video felt more informative and better explained so thank you for that, I've been on my hunt on and off for a month now, no luck yet, I ended up having my electrode use Selfdestruct but Im just happy i didnt give up and saw it.

Well I feel small brained. I knew about the dvs because of gen 1 shiny hunting, but my dumb self never put 2 and 2 together to realize you can do the same thing in gen 2.

@@jaceobrien5670 I haven’t hunted in gen 1yet, but it’s pretty simple. all shiny Pokémon in gen 1&2 can only have certain DVs to be shiny, so if you use a dv calculator you can see the stats you are looking for. Shiny collector made a great video about gen 1 shiny hunting.
I’m a hardcore shiny hunter and I’m currently hunting this, I only came because I like to watch someone else get it before I try because it helps motivate me. However this guy actually explains how to EFFICIENTLY hunt a shiny the gender part and stuff man if people don’t do that it takes wayy longer

I've been on the grind for a little while now. Set a daily quota of 400+. Currently at 6600 @ 57h 46m and 17s. First SR attempt. Saw this vid before I started. Just wanted to say thanks. Off to shuckle after eevee goes " SHING!"

166 hours in. 19,500 SR's. Nothing. Welp, I've been hard resetting using the VC menu reset the whole time. I started a new count/hunt doing the AB/Start Select soft reset. Going to see if it shines before 19,500 SR's. Never give up. Ever.
I got it. 220 hours. 26,144 with a long hiatus after 19,500 SR's. I realized when I went back I was hard resetting. Started soft resetting and got it at 6,644 SR's. I can't contain myself. Thank you for your guide. I'm on gold version VC on. 3ds.
Fun fact:
Both 0 and 8 fall under the HP stat of 20 on totodile. Unfortunately a majority of the dvs values do across all stats being at such weak levels but Totodile shares hp stat of 20 with 0 through 9 dv values.
Therefore max possible HP on any of the starters will not be shiny: 21 on chikorita, 20 on cyndaquil and 21 on totodile.
However Cyndaquil with 18 on HP is a guaranteed value of zero DV's.
The odds of getting 0 or 8 is harder to tell due to the starters weak levels and sharing multiple values to a single stat, but it's yet another (albeit) small way to spare precious time, tiny bit as it is.

Thanks a ton. Been plodding along with my shiny only playthrough with my cyndaquil starter and the odd egg hatched a shiny igglybuff first try. Now i want an umbreon for dealing with the ghost gym.

Thanks, I needed this! I want to hunt eevee across every generation as part as of quest I started a while ago. Unfortunately, every game eevee is in it's either gift only or super rare, but I'm not one to give or to masuda hunt over half of them, so thanks!

Don’t know how many resets I’m at. It’s been a couple of months though if just hopping on and hunting time to time. I’m definitely in the few thousand range as far as soft resets go, certainly longer than Cyndaquil.

I got it after 1403 resets
This guide was really helpful! Because of it, I was able to get my shiny Eevee after 251 encounters (which took many months of on and off hunting)

@@METROIDFAN258 I really like Umbreon's shiny so I'm gonna do him. Don't really need Espeon since I already have Natu and I want to have a team full of Gen 2 Pokemon rather than Gen 1. The rest of the team is gonna be Foretress, Quagsire and Piloswine

I've been using this tutorial. Currently at 11,300 SR's in VC Gold. First SR hunt and it is dragging. 90+ hours in. C'mon Eevee!

I should've done this years ago. breeding a shiny eevee with a shiny ditto would definitely improve my odds for a full set of shiny eeveelutions
Actually, since I see no one’s responded to this? I think the original poster of the video was saying somewhere that two shiny’s can’t make a shiny.
I'm going to start this hunt. I was so lucky before with Cyndaquill around 200 sr, Kenya around 3000 sr and with a crazy exact 50 sf for Sudowoodo. Maybe it's time to some high sf number hunt :)
Just wrapped up my Chikorita hunt for my crystal playthrough yesterday and made it to ecruteak and am sring for Eevee for my main team. I’m gonna name him Booger cuz he gonna be an Espeon.

Hey, question. Can you leave Eevee alone and maybe come back periodically throughout and after the storyline to try again?? Or is there a cutoff timeframe for gifted mons??
If it makes you feel better I SR for a shiny charmander in firered and it took over odds lol something like 8560 SRs 💀 I felt like I was losing my mind no joke, but then randomly it showed its face and now I can actually play the game, makes you want to hunt for more but at the same time you know the dedication it takes so it’s like hmmmm do I really want a shiny eevee/ditto? 🤔
Question: If I already have a shiny Quilava, if I just breed that with a female Eevee, won’t that give me a 1/64 odds of a shiny Eevee, making it technically easier than soft resetting?
The answer is yes, but it’s basically the Gyarados method. You have to pass on the shiny gene to a female Eevee, then breed that with a male Eevee to eventually get a shiny Male Eevee. I got mine on the 27th egg, certainly much faster than the months I spent soft resetting for it.
Hey I got the same exact thing going on, but I don't fully understand the method. So do I breed the shiny male quilava and female eevee to get a female eevee with a shiny gene then breed the two eevees together? Also I don't know what an eevee with a shiny gene looks like.

There is no visual indication for the "shiny gene", you just have to keep track of the pokemon you breed.
In Gen 2, shininess was determined by DVs (basically IVs), these could range from 0-15 in each stat, except HP (which is calculated differently)
For a Pokemon to be shiny it needs following DVs:
Atk - 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 or 15
Def - 10
Special - 10
Speed - 10
When breeding a Pokemon will pass down some its stats to an offspring of the opposite gender. It will always pass down its Defense DV and Special DV will also be passed down or offset by 8 (50/50 chance).

It's completely possible in Gold. Odds are 1/8,192, so you're still under odds to be fair. Don't give up!
Keep going! The likelihood of not getting a shiny in 6.4K resets is about 45%. You’re getting close!
I heard people say females can’t be shiny in gen 2, but I once hatched a shiny female zubat.
Depends on the pokemons gender ratio
Female starters can never be shiny but I don’t know about other pokemon
Even in gen 2 females can be shiny, it's only certain Pokémon (like starters) that cannot be shiny if they are female

Thank you for the tips! I've been playing since Yellow and was wondering how to soft reset on an emulator? I got an Epilogue cart reader and used that to get my crystal ROM. I was trying to get a shiny starter but gave up after awhile. Also, thinking about it I might go the breeding route for shinies since iirc it's pretty busted in Gen 2, like I think 1/64 odds if done correctly haha.

I'm on like 2000+ atm(SoulSilver) and I'm mad jealous. However, I did get a shiny froakie in pokemon x in 36 tries and that hunt is long.

Honestly that is a really good way of quickly determining if it’s shiny or not, do you have a video like this about shuckie the shuckle? Basically just going over it’s DV values lol

I'm an idiot, i got the gender signs mixed up and just did 250 sr while only looking at females
So I recently did a screen mod to my original GBC I’ve had for like 24 years and a new shell and it turned out great. However , my question is I’m SR’n in a gbc cart gold version for a shiny starter. So , could you explain some of the same factors. Like I read somewhere the HP is 18 only for the shiny cyndaquil

Literally my very first shiny Ditto I’ve ever ran into since starting in Red back when I was a wee youngin’! 😅 Anyways, I was gonna ask if soft resetting is better orr using my shiny ditto to shiny breed the Eevee’s I’m wanting would be better? I tried about a 100 softs before giving up on Sudowoodo lol. Seeing as my Shiny Ditto can breed with Sudo, I’m hoping anyways. In the daycare it said they were interested in each other anyways lol

With a shiny ditto in gen 2, the odds become 1/64 for obtaining a shiny through breeding. So based on odds, I'd say it's easier to breed. Also since ditto is genderless is doesn't matter which gender the eevee is. Hope this helps🙂

How do you soft reset? I just reset through the virtual console menu. . . I have tried the L + R and Start (or Select), but it doesn't do anything. Can someone tell me? I have a New Nintendo 3DS XL.

I’m shiny hunting the eevee from bill in heartgold. Since the eevee is level 5, What hp does the eevee need to have for it to be a potential shiny?
In Heart Gold Soul Silver DVs were replaced with IVs, meaning any Eevee gifted (male or female) have the capability to be shiny :D
I can’t find any videos for the actual game on the cartridge, since I don’t have virtual Console
The virtual console and GBC versions are nearly identical and which version you play won't affect this hunt at all

The only HP values which yield a shiny on this hunt are 52 and 55 🙂

Yes, it's impossible in Gen 2 due to stats playing a role in shininess and gender
@@anthonyronquillo136 Couldn't you just put a shiny male Eevee in the daycare with a female Eevee and keep hatching eggs until you hit the 1/512 odds of a shiny female Eevee? Or is the math different than multiplying gender probability by shiny probability because of dependencies of those characteristics?
@@kindredspirit9703 IIRC in gen 2 DVs (early IVs) determine both the gender and shinyness of a pokemon. with certain mons like eevee and the starters, the way their gender ratio is coded theres no overlap between the DVs that would generate both a shiny and a female no matter what method you try, since all of possible DVs that determine shinyness for those pokemon also cause it to generate as male
@@kindredspirit9703 the odds aren’t 1/512 for any Gen 2 hunt. If you use a shiny Pokémon in breeding center and a normal ditto or Eevee paired with it best you can get is 1/64. If not it’s 1/128

Plenty of cycling with Golbat in the party - every 255 steps increases happiness
