I don’t comment often on RUclips but I’ve just got to say, Sam, these videos are just brilliant. Your personality just comes across really well and for us viewers it makes it feel like we’re actually there with you. Keep up the good work sir!
@@seenthroughglass Hey Sam you should check out Carteroni out of New Zealand if you want an 037. They really are the cat's pajamas and have over twice the torsional rigidity of the team works cars from the day.
@@johnstuckaiii Good idea, Carteroni are great. Alans making number "005" I think at the moment, their replicas are amazingly accurate and faithful to the originals.
Walter Röhrl once admitted in an interview that if he‘d crashed this car he’d have died because of the cars fragile body work and frame. As a result he decided not to crash though.
At the time some people around him asked about his sanity because he agreed to rally the flimsy 037. Because if you have a bad crash, you're in big trouble. Then he said that would be no problem, as he didn't plan to crash. And he didn't. But 037's where crashed. Also fatally. But yes, when asked about the best car to drive, he answers the Lancia 037. As many others, I have also asked him this question.
@@richardwintle1020 Porsche was trying hard at the Ring to brake an important time barrier, with the 918, all their fastest, young test drivers where in. Röhrl was only going to do PR shots, and drove with worn tires and a full tank. Then he did something he sometimes do, he decided to go for it. He did not brake the barrier, belive they wanted to go sub 6 min. But he went faster than all the young guns. One of them thought he should commemorate Röhrl, and strike up a conversation. Röhrl asked: "How old are you?" The bloke answered his age. Röhrl said: "Remember this day in 30 years, then you're as old as I am now." The distance between a fool and a genius, an a-hole and honesty, can be a very thin line.
I think Lancia was such a special brand. This, the Stratos and the Delta Integrale all defined a generation of rally bred sportscars that we'll never see again!
And Delta Stradale/S4 ;) Really hope we'll see some again, I mean we sort of are, with the new GR Yaris that's rally bred in Finland by the Gazoo Racing Rally team run/owned by Tommi Mäkinen.
And the Fulvia HF which went on to be a giant killer with the least perfect powertrain layout but that worked brilliantly in a way that only Lancia could make 😍😎
As some already mentioned, look for an Alfa GTV6. Great, quirky Italian master piece, with an engine to die for. And still quite affordable, but not for long....
It doesn't matter what car manufacturer you choose to own your car from,i just wanna see that utter crazy happiness you have within you, when you'll drive it!
Stradle is one of my favourite cars ever thou i never saw one in real life. I just love the look and the sound . It reminds me of the old group b races
I had a montecarlo ( 10 yo ) and an Integrale ( new ) so this is the video for me ! Wonderful machines, they were even special when they were new and absolutely wonderful today
@@seenthroughglass I have a cheaper version of my dream garage at the moment. 2012 500 Abarth Esseesse, 1979 Fiat 131 2000 Sport and a mint condition low mileage 1992 Fiat Uno Turbo. Love your channel BTW. Have been sub'ed since your Bipost Record days 😉👍
The older Lancias are so damn gorgeous, simple n analogue! Absolutely love em! Sadly the good examples r astronomical in terms of value n end up being sat lookin pretty in some collector's garage puttin on 200ft on the odo every year. Love what Automobili Amos is doin now
Haven’t seen the video yet and already clicked like. I mean the 037 is one of the Lancia greatest, arguably the coolest brand in the World, and it might well be the coolest rally car ever 😎 Awesome stuff 😍
The Italian element in this car is everything not just the bad parts ... but anyway you should consider the Lancia Delta HF Integrale, is definitely cheaper still beautiful and more daily drive focused, meaning without the parts that you mentioned as difficult to live with. Also in black is just gorgeous!!!
Been enjoying your content recently Sam. I think your interests in cars lines up with mine and your attitude is refreshing compared to other auto youtubers
There is a company in the north of England that will carry out a conversion on a monty,a full 037 build would be a great for your channel and way less than a real one.win win
I would love to see a well done modern version of this, it has all the lines to make one of the best looking retro cars out there... That thing is gorgeous.
Awesome car Sam, I hope you buy something like this which has some interesting history. And it's good to see somebody buying older cars as I am also a fan of the cars made from 1980-2010.
An amazing chance to drive to their website and its down for maintenance. I'm a Brit living in Switzerland and would love to know more about this company!
This is a dream car. Its so special. "forgotten"? I think those who know, would never forget this car, hence the £500k these have been going for. And no, apart from the paint, it looks very different to the Evora. ;)
You should make a video describing all your favorite cars and for what reasons, along with your styles in everything from clothing to architecture to art and ask your viewers to comment what car they think fits your soul. I think it would be equally gratifying for both parties to participate in lol
I think we'd all just love to finally see you in a classic car, regardless of brand nationality, it's a pity you were out bid on the Alfa. Loving the variety of cars your driving on your channel lately, really refreshing!
Build a Monte-Carlo with Delta Integrale headlights! You can swap engine and upgrade brakes and suspension and you actually have a baby 037 with good perf and impressive handling
@@peterhandke3936 That's why I didn't suggest to build a 037 replica but just enhance a Monte-Carlo! This way, you have a really fun and relatively cheap car with some inspiration of the 037 without paying the full price!
This car is basically the reason why I want an Alfa 4C to rip around my local tracks, also because there's no getting an Alpine A110 in Canada until at least 2032. Edit: I think you should go try a 1965 Mustang GT350 or a 1969 Camaro Z28.
@@Mexxx65 Nooooo...you're not! Sorry, David B. and Mac, other than the centre section of the body that is almost the same in appearance to the Monte Carlo, they have nothing in common. The Monte Carlo is a mid-engined Lancia Beta and, in truth, was never much good to drive (a lot of problems with front brakes locking up too easily). The 037 is a different league in every way.
Splendid camera angles of the 037 Sam. Beautifully presented. Hey, love your 'italian' accent-o. I hope you test more Italian cars then. (try a Diablo)

One the best looking front ends in my opinion. Don't know what it is, but it's just so sexy in my eyes. It's weird because it's kinda boxy, and doesn't even have "sportscar" lines, but I can't take my eyes of it 😍
Such a stunning car! I noticed a silver E30 325i in one of your recent videos at the Duke of London and was wondering if that could be a possible candidate for your classic car endeavour? While they may not be as iconic as the M3 and more retro than classic, they are very much so popular and sought after. And that's not to mention they handle like a dream! Great video Sam.
Great Video, one of my favourite cars and from one of the best era of cars. I would also consider an E30 M3, Audi Coupe Quattro, Porsche 930, 944 Turbo, Alfa GTV6, BMW 2002, Peugeot 205 GTI as a cheap option, Ford RS2000 (not sure what they cost).
Do a collab with Harry’s Garage for your classic car search, he’s got plenty to check out.
