  • Ryan travels to a special garage in the north island of New Zealand tailoring to reconstructed Lancias. The home of the Carters' houses the company 'Carteroni', a business meeting the needs of Lancia enthusiasts by either supplying parts or rebuilding complete cars. The Carters' latest project is a Lancia 037 Group B rally car recreation. Ryan shows up with two weeks remaining on the build. He spends some time helping Allan Carter put the finishing touches on the car, and ultimately gets to drive an icon of the Group B rally era. Along with the 037, Ryan borrows a Lancia Delta and examines a homemade Lancia Stratos build. There's heaps of Lancia porn in this video... if that's what you're into.

for all those complaining that he didn´t go super fast or didn´t do some awesome drifting, keep in mind that as far as we know he is doing freelance journalism for the drive network. So we don´t know what kind of insurance he has, or wether he has some form of insurance paid by "drive" should he crash a car and or damage objects/cars/people/himself.
Just think about well known car journalist Mark Hales, who drove a Porsche 917 for an article, without a written agreement who would pay damages.
The engine blew and now he is about 200 000$ in debt.
Jalopnik even did a whole article about it a while ago, to remind anyone that "yeah sure, just take a spint with my XX car" can cause quite some problems.
So before critisizing ryan keep that in mind

Truly awesome video. LEgit cannot believe that a couple of rural Kiwi farmers produced inch-perfect replicas of iconic rally cars and with such skill and craftsmanship. The music, the sights, the passion....this is why people love Italian cars and marques like Lancia. The 037 was a fire-breathing monster that no modern soul-less techno WRC car can possibly hold a candle to. I'm just about old enough to remember the Group A Delta's last hurrah and even then I remember being fascinated by them in their eye-catching Martini colours and being flung around by the likes of Kankunnen.

Well done! Your back-story about the car(s), as well as the current story you presented, is very good. Also, your shots of these impressive cars is almost as wonderful as the New Zealand scenery you captured in the back ground.
Again, nicely done and thanks! :)

    You should come to Italy.
I have a 037, a S4 and a Delta Integrale HF Evo literally 5 mins walk from my house.
Here in every city you can find someone who has a Lancia Integrale somewhere.
So disappointed that our government is so bad, all the great racing brands we had are now broke or worse, producing econocars for Chrysler.
But there are people who keep caring about those great masterpieces, and keep racing them.

This guy makes better videos by himself than 99.9% of car journalists do with television sized budgets. Seems like this series could be a good documentary as a completed work. Ending with donuts on wet grass was perfect. What joy more pure for a car nut?

First of all, Hearty Congratulations to the "Carteroni"!!!
Secondly, Mr. Symancek, you've got yourself a fan!!!
And the 037 is pure poetry. And the Stratos. Beautiful cars and classically correct.
BTW, I saw a works Stratos, the car was on display, in 1998 in Jyvaskyla just outside the hotel that was serving as Rally HQ. I was there for Rally Finland, or the "1000 Lakes" as it was known in the olden days. You definitely have to see that rally once, trust me.

Loved the vid, very well done. Awesome cars, and I always loved the 037 more than the S4. One small correction though, the 037 is not the last rear driver to win a WRC rally, the Celica won the Safari and Ivory Coast in 86 while the Renault 5 won Corsica in 85. It was however the last two wheel drive to win the manufacturer's title.

It's stunning to see what can be achieved by few men with passion and a good deal of competence. Those are the firsts Stratos and 037 with the steering wheel on the right side that i'm aware of, and they're both amazing replicas. And Allan is the very first english speaker i heard who can pronounce Lancia the right way. It's not Lanceea, it's Lancha!

Great video Ryan (and Drive), well done. Just one thing to note: yes the 037 was the last rwd car to win the World Rally Championship outright (1983 Manufacturers title). However the last rwd car to win a 'WRC event' outright was (I think) the Group A. Nissan 200SX (Alain, Ambrosino, 1988 WRC Ivory Coast rally). And a rwd Ford Sierra Cosworth won the WRC Tour de Corse the same year (Didier Auriol).
