We had the pleasure of meeting the Steiners when we were in Jaisalmer. Wonderful people, and grateful that they gave time to chat.

This train has an interesting route, from the desert to the mountains. It goes up to Kathgodam, ftom where the mountains start.

I enjoy seeing your family travel vlogs. I and my brother used to travel all over India with our parents during my early days. My father was a travel buff and by the time I was 16 I had travelled all over India. Your vlogs are very nostalgic for that reason.
I hope you visit Udaipur and stay in that beautiful Rajasthan city for a few days. It one of the most beautiful cities of Rajasthan.
When you visit "Jantar Mantar" in Jaipur, do get a good guide to tell you the astronomical significance of all those structures or it will just look like some abstract art.
Also 200 km from Jaipur is the Abandoned Royal city of Fatepur Sikri. Its Indian's version of the Chinese "forbidden city". Both you and your kids will Love it. Its also an UNESCO world heritage site.

If possible, you could work from India for a year and put kids in a good school nearby (wherever you choose to stay). That could be a more immersive experience. Anyway welcome to Bharat and have lots of fun exploring.

Hopefully you find some good homestays. They could be much more fun than hotels and probably offer more experiences.

Desert terrain trains run roughly wobble because of tracks being on sand.
