    There is an indescribable magic to B&W film photography, particularly when the camera is a Leica M6. Good job.

      @@paulreidphotography It took me a while to discover that one could connect the end of the roll to the reel outside the bag and then throw the whole lot in. But what a joy it is to remove a reel from the tank and see all those images in minature chemically. A wonderful process.

    Leica M6 and TriX 400. A perfect combination in photography. Thanks for introducing Khadijah and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    From a film old-timer in the U.S.: I'm glad you're enjoying it. Try 4x5 sometime, if you would like to slow down and think about the image. But my M4 has been a favorite companion since 1972, especially for B&W, which is all I use now. I continue to find the limitations of film an engaging creative challenge. And I develop my film and print from the negatives -- no PS, no scanning, except from final prints, to post occasionally on my site or a forum. I've had my fill of "Photoshopped" images -- I'm not against the medium; I just don't easily trust the results I see any longer. For me, however much I may do in printing, I have to work from what's on the negative. No removal of tree or wire or object I carelessly missed seeing. I set my bar with the great film photos made over more than 150 years without electronic manipulation -- many of them without even a light meter or an ASA/ISO speed. Will I made any truly great photos? Perhaps not. but I can aspire to it.

      Funnily enough I’m moving into a house that I will be setting up a darkroom in. I just haven’t had the space for it until now. So I will be printing mine analogue within the next 6 months. Very excited about that!! Thanks so much for watching the videos. I really appreciate it

      @@paulreidphotographySince you're heading into the darkroom, allow me to point you to the work of Mark Maio, an American photographer. He continues to use film. Although he has scanning the negatives for more than a decade, he tells me that he insists on using Lightroom tools only as he would use real tools (dodging, etc.) at the enlarger. His work is quite different from yours, but I think you'll find some of it reminiscent of Gene Smith's eye.

    So enjoyable, your videos. The photos are beautiful and love your message about photograhing someone who is comfortable with being in front of the camera. I look forward to hearing about your scanning technique. That is what has held me back from returning.

    Tri-X is my middle name Paul. It’s all I shot for years til I parked my Pentax.
    Now I’ve become a dig photographer I’m using the Silver Efex Pro2 preset.
    Tri-X lives - grain and all…✌️🇦🇺

    Nice, a talk for two in your video! What happens to me is, that the people around me don't perceive well, how my photography and I have developed in just a few years. The willingness to go there as a model is quite rare. The opportunities to portray friends or family are therefore possible for a few people. By the way, your photographs are wonderful! The slightly grainy, well-dosed blur makes it totally classic and timeless. A good time for you! Best regards, Dirk

      There’s certainly a look to film that’s difficult to replicate. The experience is worrying at first until you see the results a few times and learn how best you can expose the images. It’s a very exciting experience

    Nice images, Paul. Image 4:27 is indeed a great one. A video on how you scan would be most welcome. Do you find that the cost and process of having to develop, scan, and store negatives is worth it? I gave up shooting film years ago and haven't really looked back. I do think there is a magic to film. But with the time and money involved, I'm not sure I'm ready to revisit that world quite yet. I wonder if playing with the grain and dehaze sliders in LR can get me close enough? Anyway, love your content ❤

    • @paulreidphotography
      @paulreidphotography  6 месяцев назад +1

      Using grain etc in Lightroom definitely gets you close. So if you develop and scan your images yourself then the cost is much much less. It’s also surprising how a 36 exposure film can last for an entire shoot because you are much more conscious of each shot. Thanks so much for watching the video! I really appreciate it
