The hot rails sounds great man. I've got 1 in my Competition Blue Mustang and I love it. There are days that I think it sounds better than my guitars with JB's.
Cant wait to hear this in nirvana covers, your channel with the "guitar cover with tabs" is really nice for eduacation after learning the song from just tabs i like watching your covers to see if i do anything wrong and playing along with it so thanks for these vids 👏
Great video! I now feel comfortable enough to attempt this on my own. Camera angle was OK too, because you included a description of what you were doing as you were doing it… Nice work. Thanks for the confidence.⭐️
You can’t go wrong with any of the SD rail pickups. I have a Hot Rails in the neck position of my favorite strat, which works beautifully with the angled full JB humbucker in the bridge, and a staggered Quarter Pound in the middle. BY FAR my favorite pickup configuration that I’ve tried thus far. And then yesterday, I finally put a bridge Hot Rails in my other Strat. With distortion, it’s out of this world! The cleans though, are kind of muddy and I’m thinking that it might have to do with the fact that I kept the stock 250k pots in there, when most people seem to prefer using 500k with humbuckers to help brighten the tone some. How are your cleans sounding with this bad boy? I couldn’t really tell in the video, but have you noticed them sounding dark/muddy when trying to achieve clean tones? Cheers, mate! 🍻
Waiting for my SD SHR-1 Hotrail bridge pickup to arrive along with the Fender locking nuts also bought, can't wait to test it out my self. Also found my own little guitar hack today when I decided to rethread my Strat with lighter gauges. Originally it had .09's but that is now my new B, because i put .07s on it and i can now bend two whole steps easily, maybe even 3 but i haven't tried yet, feels to unnatural, but its the best threads/strings I've tried in my life! Shout out to Ernie balls Slinkys 😀
I expect that the 2 different bridge humbuckers will sound immediately very different to you. Many factors contribute to the reasons. The hotrail Bridge strat pickup is itself an awesome heavy strat type pickup with lots of drive and earthbreaking tonal characteristics, compared to the traditional stock strat pickup. A big big difference being noticed when you click on the distortion or overdrive pedal. Great pickup.
i had a heck of a time soldering . then i was told to use paste flux - by a plumber . he told me how i could use a little bit of this paste and then also remove it when its done , using IPA . so yeah thats my jam now . i do a lot of soldering , but i never solder with out using paste flux .
Hi! I just ordered mine and I was reading the manual that is included in the box and it says "if you combine seymour dunca with fender pickups you have to reverse the black and green. In other words, solder the black wire to ground and green to selector" But you haven't done like that. Is it correct?
I just put a hot rail in my strat too. I like it a lot. I'm curious how high you have yours in there? I've been messing with the height and I can't decide. I'm not sure what the "proper" height should be.
I wired the same as you did and had hum. I looked at my instructions and it states, " If your combining your Semour Duncan pickup(s) with Fender pickup(s) in the same guitar, you'll need to reverse the black and green wires on the Semour Duncan. In other words, solder the black wire to ground and the green wire to the selector switch".
My Seymour Duncan svr rails only have a red, white and a bare wire xD I’m guessing red and white are both hot and control both sides of the pickup! It looks like that’s the case but I’ll find out when I try to solder it 😂
One thing I did was swap out my bridge tone to a 500k pot instead of the 250k , that way the neck and middle single coils have their 250k pot and the bridge has its 500k… you get a little bit more of a clear tone …
Alternatively, changing to 500k pots and putting a 240 or 270 k resistor between the pickup hot wire and the pot will load the pickup more and tame the highs. Cheers!
I replaced the bridge pickup on a loaded pickguard that went for about 40ish dollars with some hot rails that went for about 20 dollars. And gosh the output is so mediocre. I thought the output would be atleast louder than the single coils soloed. I also replaced the volume pot with 500k pots and raised the bridge all the way, and still it is not giving me the output I want! Although the tone sounds great, I always have to turn the gain up in order squeeze out some extra power. Anyway if I could fix that?

I got my first Hot Rail in '87. I was in my first band and needed a good heavy rock, metal tone and discovered Hot Rails just in time. They rock!

Great job.As others have said you give confidence that I can do my Strat now.
Thanks for sharing how to install the hot rail!👍
I'm getting ready to put a neck and bridge hot rail in mine. Can't wait!!! Ty for the video!

Thanks, bro. ✨
It worked 🎉 thank you bro 🤘🤘
No problem 👍
I actually just installed the same hotrails in a partcaster I made. Should of uploaded this a week ago 😂
I’m fixing to do the same to my strat, and I think I’m gonna go with the obsidian solderless strat module for mine
Sounds good 👍🏻 good luck 🤞🏻
I put in my sd hot rails last night and it’s so good. Like I got a new guitar and it looks good too.

Great video man!
Great video I am assuming that your coils are operating in a series fashion. Would anyone happen to know the effect of wiring them in parallel. thanks
Se vienen buenas cosas para los covers de Nirvana! Increíble sigue asi hermano.
Very nice do they sound more close to single coils or more to humbuckers in ur opinion ? Thanks
Definitely humbuckers
Your video better than the others thanks
Sounds great! 👍

Sick!
I'm wanting to wire up a Saphue Hot Rail 2-Dual blade into a single pickup/no switch KayKe(?) style guitar. Can't seem to find a diagram.

Are the color codes on hotrail different from other Duncan humbuckers? I seem to have trouble with mine with a hyper switch.

Possibly wired out of phase, I just fixed mine yesterday. I got carried away and didn't check it before installed the pickguard back on
Kurt used the jb jr pickups...

what does your 2nd position sound like?
Sorry, I don't really use it so I didn't cover it.
how to set the hot rails height?
If switch to 2nd position....stil can get a stray sound...or have to split it?
Would position 2 work the same as in an SSS or HSS position? Or would you need to wire it as a split coil for it to work as an HSS
It work the same but the sound would be different. Position 2 with SSS has a distinctive 'quack' sound to it. With the HSS it loses that quality.
just ordered seymour duncan mini-humbucker, not hot-rail. will the installation be the same for this pickup?
I don’t see why not. If the wires are the same then I would say so.
@@PaulieBlue thanks!
Did you replace the potentiometer too? 250 vs 500k?
No I left the 250k.
Are the potentiometer u use is 250k?
Yeah that's right.
Sounds so much better great video
Thank you ☺️
Hey bro how much is the price of hotrails pick up?
Usually run about 100$
I want to put a humbucker on my mustang but I’m terrified to do so
what amp are you using in this vid it sounds nice
It’s a Blackstar ID15 TVP
Are you using 250k pots? Thanks.
Yeah they’re 250s
Did you try 500k?
Like the nirvana guitar from live at reading?
Similar, mine has a maple fretboard though. 👍
Paulies a real person?
Nearly
I wonder myself this same question since i saw your comentary
Does the moist v tabs?
What about a split coil? Offers versatility.
It does offer more versatility. It’s not what I wanted to do though.
