    I’m really wanting Sisterlocs but that $1200 start up is like 🥴However here in Atlanta the micro locs are pretty much the same price. I’m going to stay with what my spirit wants & go w/ my Sista locs 😊My journey will be starting soon

      Hi beautiful 🤎 I get that!! It was even higher down here in Miami for my hair length. I’m happy you’re sticking to it though!! It will be so worth it 🤗 when do you think you’ll end up starting the journey?

    Microloc girl here🙋🏾‍♀️. I started out interlocking & 2 yrs later, I'm still loving it. To my understanding, the difference between what I have & sisterlocs is the patented grid. My locs are tiny. I have shaved sides, so naturally I couldn't get the sisterloc grid.

      Hi beautiful! Thanks for chiming in; I’m happy you’re loving the journey 🤎 And Yesss for shaved sides! How long do your reties take in that case?

    • @ebonyk6045
      @ebonyk6045 7 месяцев назад

      @@kahinamatata I about 4 hours. I retie every 2 - 2.5 months. I used to retie every 8 weeks, but found that I haven’t had to do any repairs since I started waiting.

    Yeah that up charge is why I am getting microlocs lol. From what I am told the price difference is the required interlock rotation pattern. Microlocs are flexible. You can do only a 2 point rotation if you want but that’s not the case with sisterlocs

    • @mickkyb
      @mickkyb 7 месяцев назад

      Along with the grid too of course

    • @kahinamatata
      @kahinamatata  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi beautiful! That up charge is so disrespectful 🤣 so I understand! But that definitely makes sense about the 2pt rotation instead of 3pt or 4pt. I don’t mind getting a 2pt for my reties if that’s the case lol when are you getting yours installed?

    • @mickkyb
      @mickkyb 7 месяцев назад

      @@kahinamatata yeah it’s crazy lol I feel like after install it shouldn’t matter if you want to manage them outside of the traditional way

    I believe the up charge may be associated with the specific grid that is attached to the sisterlocs. I have had micro locs for almost a year. And before I got them, I did extensive research on the difference between the two. From what I was told there cannot be any combining of the locs, and the locs have to be all one size with sisterlocs.. if you have finer hair, this could pose a problem later on when the locs get longer and thicker . For reference I have varying size locs due to my hair density and softness.

    • @kahinamatata
      @kahinamatata  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you for this!! It’s confusing because I have the different sizes going on too 🤣 even with sisterlocks. I think they try to systemize (not a real word? Lol) to a T but locticians seem to still just do what works best for them or your hair.

    • @michellebrown3519

      The difference between the two (microlocs vs sisterlocks) is that the sisterlock training and process is trademarked. They are not all one size either but must be 1/2 in or less in size.

    I'm a stylist and I will say that I have charged more for sisterlocks in certain cases because most people exceed the time frame to get them retightened and can lead to a lot more matting at the root . With sisterlocs, your grid is everything so sometimes parts have to be recreated. It's more time-consuming to recreate and detangle hair for a sisterloc grid without compromising your parts . But when you have microlocs there is no grid, making it easier to collect fly aways or counter matting that may occur because there is less pressure to keep a straight line. I find that sister locs take more maintenance to maintain parting and most women don't care for them like they should in between retightening so I got tired of recreating portions of grids and charging a flat rate.

      Hi beautiful! Thanks for sharing your experience! Based on this, I’m perfectlyyy fine with my sisterlocks being maintained as microlocs if that’s the case. All of that pressure to keep everything perfect is not necessary for me so I don’t mind switching it up if the loctician is fine with that too. It’s still going to look beautiful 🤎

    There may be more Sisterlocks in a person's head to retighten on average and to stay within guidelines of maintaining the grid and integrity, the locticians will use the Sisterlock tool. I am a DIY lady now I use a nappyloc tool on my used to be Sisterlocks. I've combined so many so I am not stuck on the grid anymore either. But yeah, the upcharge is likely tied to maintaining those standards.

    • @kahinamatata
      @kahinamatata  6 месяцев назад

      Hi beautiful! Thanks for your feedback 🤎 Did you ever use the sisterlocks tool to diy retighten? If so, did you notice any difference in difficulty of use? I definitely get maintaining the grid but I would hope that they’re maintaining the grid on microlocs clients too so I still don’t see so much of a difference lol
