That’s amazing me too. In this day in age it’s all about learning how to live on your own terms and being financially independent. It’s not worth it to live on your job income alone. You have to start building an asset outside of your job income. I am actually be mentored by a financially independent couple at 28 years old. If you are interested in knowing more let me know. I might be able to connect you to them.

Just a small piece of advice. If you debt has interest rates higher than 4-5% don't invest yet, pay off that debt asap, and then start investing.

WOW, I had an epiphany watching this inspiring video because I am so happy to see a beautiful BLACK family on their FIRE journey. I am 54 and single and earn over $100K working multiple jobs and side hustles. I live on less than 25% of my income and save the remaining 75% in savings. This video has opened my mind to a couple of things such as finishing college, learning real estate investing, and investing in stocks. There is so much I want to say because I am so proud of you both so I will keep it short. I will be taking your stock course and any other courses you have. Thank you both so much for this video and for giving me a new perspective on life. I will now start planning my FIRE journey.

M - LOVE that you are a family pursuing FIRE! We actually wanted to keep our exact FIRE number private because it's so unique for each person/family. Our number is a 7-digit number. But you could have a much smaller or larger number than us. In any case, we love that you're on the journey!

M I am going to guess it is somewhere in the 1,250,000 range based on their budget and something they said about income they were living on. I am amazed at how they saved that up. I have my fire number, but sadly half of it is tied up in my 401k so I can’t touch it until actually retirement age.

You didn't come from money, didn't have high income jobs, but you're smart and worked hard and reach FIRE! I saved a lot too but living rent free and mortgage free?! (Whaaaa?!) Im nearly 30 and I want to retire in 3-4 years. Granted my version of "retirement" is to retire from being a wage slave. Congrats... Lisbon is great. If you don't already know, Ryan Air is a great cheap way to travel. That's how we traveled from Germany to Portugal for our vacation
Germell - Yes - We LOVE Ryan Air! We went to Spain and Portugal last year and zipped between the two on RyanAir. The year before, we went to Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy using Ryan Air! It's incredibly cheap!
They are cheap because they financially abuse their employees. Many many lawsuits against them..
I just spoke with a govt employee and he said they make "average" salaries of around 100k!! I was like, that's average?!
Taj Mahal - LOL! We definitely wouldn't say 100K is average. The salary of a gov't employee depends on the employee's grade and where they work.
Taj Mahal it also depends on the area cost of living. 100k in the Bay Area is like 50k in Atlanta
With pension, healthcare, 100k sounds correct.
sp123 - You're exactly right! The federal government lists salaries online per pay grade and they list it by location - Bay Area definitely pays more than Atlanta! :)

I'm finding that I can hear a lot of words in Portuguese and know what they mean simply because I learned Spanish. Have not been to Portugal but have heard it's a great geoarbitrage place for FIRE. I'm so close to FIRE but as a single/no kids I'm over saving for future possibilities. Wish I had your home remodeling skills (I'm a wizard at plumbing and electrical, but finishing/design are my weakness). Keep up the great content!

I came across your video because I am investigating places to retire. The website was using your video. I liked your energy and I know nothing about finances so I subscribed. It may be too late for me as I am 57 and the economy is trash, but I hope to be able to pass this knowledge on to my grown kids. Most YT channels I come across give me the milking subscribers for money vibe. I did not get that from you guys so thank you for that. That's quite ambitious. I'm 31 & have $180,000 saved but I don't foresee that as being enough to retire in my 40s. If it's your ultimate goal though, I'm sure you'll make it work.
I'm 18, also have 30k saved but I don't see myself retiring until I have at least like 800.000, which probably won't happen until my early late 30s/early 40s...
