I can only imagine how different my financial situation would be if I had these kinds of conversations with my parents growing up...hopefully these wonderful girls realize how blessed they are for having parents like these!
This is beyond dope to see, a black family building generational wealth with real conversations for other families to learn from what works. God bless you guys, you've helped change my life and I'll use this with my kids as well. Keep growing, serving, and enjoying your journey!
I have been following y’all for years and we are on our journey. As an educator, mother and individual on the FIRE journey, I will definitely show this to my students. My children watch it and chime in when y’all say “Join the journey” lol Your videos are such a blessing and we are grateful for the value you AND your children give. Peace and blessings to you!!! 🙏🏾
I seriously love this conversation. It feels so organic. I wish older adults would have sat me down and started conversations about money like this. Great video. Please consider including them more.
omg! this is absolutely awesome! this should be part of school programs and also part of every parent agenda that would like to guide their kids to financial independence. Bravo Mom and Dad!
Amon & Christina, what you’ve been doing and sharing has been life changing for so many people, including myself. THIS, sharing with us how simple it is to have these conversations with young people, the ones who will come after us, is nothing short of groundbreaking! You have a lifetime follower in me. Thank you.
I am a single parent. My co worker told me about you guys over a year ago. I wish I would have listened. I love how the girls are so humble. I love how you as parents are so positive
Because of your channel I started an investment account for my nephews a few years back! I add $50 a month and bump up on the contributions during their birth month (I even reach out to other family members to contribute $25-$50 for their birthday). This account has grown to over $5k in just a few years and they still have 7 years until they are 18! Thank you for sharing with us how to create generational wealth!
@@Justchantel There are "529 accounts" that many people will open for a child which go toward college savings - I didn't want to do that in case my nephews don't go to college. If the child is able to earn an income, there are custodial Roth IRAs - my nephews are too young for that bc they do not earn an income. I decided to open up a regular brokerage account in my name, but with all of the money in that account dedicated toward them. My investments are separated from that so I know everything that grows in it is for them. I do receive tax paperwork for the dividends only which annually are only like $25 at this point so it has no implication on my taxes. You are able to "gift" stocks without paying any capital gains tax. The child (or young adult at the time) can sell the stocks with little to no tax depending on their income or continue to invest that money - eventually paying taxes on it down the line. You could also sell the stocks yourself and then pay the taxes on it yourself (could just take the money out of the money you gift for taxes). Lots of different ways to do this where the taxes can fall on the kid or you depending on how you do it.
One of your best vids ever. Totally unscripted questions with super excellent advice. Not only helping your kids but alot of young kids out there (wish I had this advice 40 years ago). Keep up the great work!
What a treat that we could play "fly on the wall." Thank you for giving us this opportunity and for Sunoa and Malea to being so open to sharing this publicly! And how funny that they didn't remember the $8,000 each back in 2020! 😂 It's great that you didn't cut this out but showed how they are teenagers with certainly other pressing topics in their lives. It's great that they can have both - being teenagers and also that they can grow into responsible adults bit by bit. And it's sooo generous how you match what they invest! Again I said this before: Please adopt me! 😂 You all have a great Sunday night! xox Kati
Loved this conversation. Thanks for sharing. I also opened custodial accounts for my kids after watching your initial video from 2020. Hearing the dialogue is very helpful.
One of the best financial videos on youtube...please make more....amon you have beautiful family...so inspiring...love your communication together as a team
I will be watching your videos with my sons. Thank you for suggesting families do these strategies together and kiddos are never too young to begin learning ❤❤❤
The love, patience, care, support and attention, wow, what a great conversation! Thank you for sharing. The open conversation alone is breaking many systemic cultural norms. I hope you are proud of yourselves. The Howard family sure are!
This is an inspiring update to watch. I remember that video and completely forgot it was 2020. I'm an auntie that loves my family so much. I want to share with my nieces and nephews my financial journey and why they should start now as young adults. The matching incentive is brilliant. Maybe I can figure out a way to help my little ones like this too. Thanks for the transparency and sharing this brilliant skill. Congratulations family for ensuring generational curses will not exist financially! Cheers!
I love this new video. I sometimes put your videos on while my grandson is at my house. Hoping that some of the info subconsciously will sink in. This is definitely going to be playing next weekend while he is here. He knows he has a UTMA so he will be interested.
This video is awesome. I have a 15 yr old and will watch this with him to start the conversation. We hope to have his first job soon and would love for him to save for the future. Often times parents don't know how to incorporate conversations like this, so this video helps. Keep making them, please. Thank you! 😊
Congratulations, Melea and Sunoa! You are showing the world how to achieve Coast FI in real time. And shout out to mom and dad for passing on the knowledge. This type of inheritance is PRICELESS and more valuable than money. I love to see it!
Enjoyed the video with the girls! Yes, please continue filming and sharing your family's conversations about investing for the younger generation. As grandparents, we look forward to learning more about different ways to talk to our grandchildren about investing. Keep up the good work!
Loved it- thank you for providing a blueprint on how to have these types of conversations. And thank you to your lovely girls for being open and honest. I only wish them the best with their future plans ❤
These kinds of family financial talks are so casual yet so sensible and sound. We, as a family always look to hearing your financial journey experiences. Very inspiring and true. Can't believe the real and unbelievable financial progress we have achieved in our own financial journey in the last 4 years on our way to true financial independence following your informational YT videos. This one with your kids just can't be overstated. Do more! Live better! Help others!
One of your best video! Greatly appreciated the candor (honest and non scripted) of your children. My kids - 16 & 14 - understand the importance of basic financial knowledge but would rather do just about anything than sit down and talk about it. It's clear from your discussion with yours that it takes patience, repetition, and engagement. Loved the back and forth with them and how you seeded nuggets of wisdom. Also helpful to get their perspective of what they find motivating. 🙏
Thank you guys for not coaching them ahead of the video. it was great to get their authentic answers. i also looooove the fact that you guys are teaching them. I wish I had that as a child. I try to teach my son what I pick up. Also guys, I have traveled a good deal and visited Portugal in 2015. For some reason, it has been on my list of possible places to retire. I hope to join one of your classes and visit Portugal again.
I’m sending this to my teen. We have very similar talks, but never considered the incentive of “matching.” I think this would be a huge motivator for our wildling to be more mindful of their mindset about money in general.
Wonderful to see such open lines of communication, support , and exchange of ideas between loving family members. Wishing each and everyone of you nothing but the best👍
Wow I absolutely LOVED this inside look into your family conversations around money! My husband and I don't have kids yet and we're at the early stages of our own rich journey. Its really helpful to see because we didn't have conversations like this with our parents, but we want to be parents like this ourselves. So its is beyond valuable to have examples like you guys! Would love more of these types of videos. You guys are awesome! Thank you for all that you share!!! :)
This is my favorite video so far. Thank you for teaching your girls and letting us see the conversations so that we know what to teach our own children.
Congratulations on the convo. My kids are 9 and 11 and I have them investing already but I hadn't thought of the matching. Keep these videos going. Thanks
I really like this style of conversation with the kids. Although my kids are only 11 and 6, I’ll definitely use this as a guide to talk to them! Thank you for posting!
Being around Amon in Portugal has allowed me to get some great insight. One thing he told me was this pursuit of FIRE and financial freedom you can do it alone, but with your partner its even better, and when we did it we had our kids(our team) which makes it even better! This hit home for me. I have been someone that has always had the "I can do it myself" mentality, but in this life we really cant do anything alone, you only go as far as your team! This is a perfect example. Again, thank you for all your weekly knowledge!
AMEN! 🙌 DROPPING GEMS 💎!!! Thank you guys this was awesome! If only MORE parents would take this level of care! “PATIENCE” is the word I came up with! Sunoa & Malia, most parents don’t have the patience to train and teach their kids to “fish”, to have them THINK thru alongside their parents about their own futures. This is a true love & care for their children… think training wheels! At the same time, many kids would just be “checked out” on a conversation like this and choose not to apply patience to sit, listen, learn eagerly and ask questions and think of options…. Who hoo! I also loved the Die with Zero reference! Makes sense! Assuming they are good stewards, Why wait until the children are 60-70? I can’t wait to see where your futures are headed! 👏 👏
Thanks for posting this video! I was just talking to our 12 year old while on holiday about how it's time to open his custodial account. I can't wait to share this video with him and here's to the kids starting young! Wish we had this growing up.
You guys are exemplary parents 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏your girls are on the path to financial freedom thanks to your love and diligence. So impressed by you all 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I followed tour advice and started a custodial account for my niece 3 years ago, best decision I ever made for her. Followed up with my son when he was born as well
Loved this! I have so many questions from the family aspect of these kinds of conversations (and the marriage!). I would love to hear from the girls how they create boundaries around their spending. Clearly, they know how to earn, but as a young person, there is so much temptation to buy, buy, buy. How do they balance this, especially at the ages they are now?
I appreciate how authentic you guys are. It's evident the girls also show similar characteristics. Very wise family that teaches the world for free. God bless you
I would LOVE to see more of these videos with the girls and discuss possible investment opportunities and just how you guys talk about money as a family. I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old and I have a book I'm planning on buying for my 5 year old, but she's already starting to say things like "can you buy me...." "can I borrow your money to buy...." so I can use some better ideas on how to discuss money to help my kids be smart investors as they get older. Thank you Amon and Christina so much for all of your work! It has been really helpful and incredibly inspiring!
Yes, please do more of these types of videos. You are modeling healthy conversations/brainstorming about money and investments for kids. Really appreciate it.
Congratulations girls! Did they start with $8000 each and just leave it alone or did they contribute monthly? I'll be turning 44 next month and I just reached my first $100k in retirement, I'm glad to see you two ladies will get to first first million much sooner 😁
If you invested $10,000 in a Vanguard s&p 500 ETF in July 2020 without reinvesting dividends it would only be worth around $14,900. You would have to reinvest dividends and top up with additional capital to get to 32k.
Congrats on $100k! I've heard that the growth in your account after you reach that first $100k in insane so I know you'll see some great gains now. Working toward that number myself!
This was an amazing conversation. I wish I was exposed to financial information when I was younger. I would’ve avoided so many money mistakes that impede wealth building. I’m sharing this video with my family.
Love this family and the representation they give We have two young sons at home and are doing the same things and this is where we will be in under a decade
Love this, I'm investing on behalf of my son (he's 1) the same way through fidelity with their index fund. Can't wait for him to take over and learn the ropes. Been following you guys for a while and you really changed the way I think about + approach money. Love the match incentive too 😁👍🏾 setting the bar high is the journey I'm on too. Taking action was what motivated me.
I don't have my own children but their videos inspired me to start an account for my nephews. They were already 8 at the time but at least a full decade of growth is great. You're doing an amazing thing for your son by investing for him so early! Setting up the next generation!
Thank you for this video. Thank for the knowledge, love and unity you guys share and shared. Thank you for allowing your girls to participate in this video. This will encourage my little ones to watch this video because it’s relatable to them by seeing kids in the video. Thank you
Hey family. First I would like to say thank you for putting content like this out. I wanted to know if they are invested in a custodial account or a kids roth custodial account and why one or the other?
This is wonderful. The amount of education a you two are providing your young ladies is awesome. Definitely some tactics I'll utilize when I have some children.
I started an UTMA for my 7 year old when she was 5 because of you. I have encouraged my brothers to do the same for my nieces and nephews but that has been an uphill battle.
I love everything about this video! The family conversation format is very relatable. I love the lesson that you took from Die with Zero as well as the trading time for money lesson from Your Money or Your Life! 🤗
You all should be really proud of your girls and the questions they were asking. So phenomenal that they already have this financial literacy so young. I’m just learning myself and trying to teach my kid who is 17 so that he can be financially set 10 years. Thanks for sharing your girls with us :-)

I love this type of conversation. Kudos to you as a family.

I don't even have kids but this is exactly the type of conversations I want to have with them!
The same here. When God blesses me with children, I will have these conversations with them.
I am a single parent. My co worker told me about you guys over a year ago. I wish I would have listened. I love how the girls are so humble. I love how you as parents are so positive

LOVE That You Are having this CONVO with the Kids. Most families don't do this

This is amazing Amon and Christina! Thank you for sharing this example. Noted and will do this in my future marriage and parenthood.
It's amazing how fast kids grow up. Nice to see a family setting up for generational success!
Thank you all so
Much! You are an inspiration ! ❤ hope to
Meet you someday!
I followed tour advice and started a custodial account for my niece 3 years ago, best decision I ever made for her. Followed up with my son when he was born as well

Hey family. First I would like to say thank you for putting content like this out. I wanted to know if they are invested in a custodial account or a kids roth custodial account and why one or the other?
Thank you so much. This video was life changing for me. I'm gonna talk to my husband so we can take your master class too. God bless you guys!

This is wonderful. The amount of education a you two are providing your young ladies is awesome. Definitely some tactics I'll utilize when I have some children.
Great video. My daughter will be 13 soon. She will open a custodial account. I will show her this video.
I started an UTMA for my 7 year old when she was 5 because of you. I have encouraged my brothers to do the same for my nieces and nephews but that has been an uphill battle.
I'm impressed at the discipline you daughters have with managing their money.
What a fantastic video. Thank you all for sharing.
I love everything about this video! The family conversation format is very relatable. I love the lesson that you took from Die with Zero as well as the trading time for money lesson from Your Money or Your Life! 🤗

Watching you guys is a gift! Thanks for not being gate keepers. So much wisdom in your videos. 😊
You all should be really proud of your girls and the questions they were asking. So phenomenal that they already have this financial literacy so young. I’m just learning myself and trying to teach my kid who is 17 so that he can be financially set 10 years. Thanks for sharing your girls with us :-)
