60 yrs old. Two weeks ago I gave up my nightly bowl of ice cream. I can't believe the change. I am sleeping better feeling better & my energy level is way up. Now looking to remove more sugar from my eating habits.
Same results although I miss my nightly bowl of the cold, delicious serving of lactic acid, sugar and cream. The body definitely doesn't like it, but ahhhh, the taste buds have a different perspective.
I removed sugar and went very low carb Feb 1st and the first 20 days was absolutely horrible. I almost went to the ER 3 times because of the withdrawals and seen my doctor once. I had tremors, migraines, vertigo and body aches. Just to name a few symptoms. I literally felt like I was dying. Today is 23 days and I am so glad I did it. My head is so much more clearer. I have more energy and I’m not as irritable and a bonus, I’ve lost 8lbs.
What really pisses me off is the amount of chocolate bars and candy in every store across the country. You have to walk through a tunnel of sugar to pay for your fuel.
You're all missing the mark. 90% of the world's food is produced by sugar and candy corporations. A little hard to blame society for its health problems when they have been raised to eat garbage right from the start, and there are few options to choose from once people wake up.
@@Bell1cross america is in the worst spot though. other countries have much higher level quality of food. the food corporations' HQ are here and we are taking the burnt of it. all we can do is cut out sugar whenever possible, don't eat starch and grains, then exercise whenever possible.
Real wisdom. Giving up sugar and refined carbohydrates about 15 years ago was the best thing I ever did for myself. People don’t want to believe it’s true because you pretty much have to buy whole ingredients and cook for yourself to truly get away from it. And stop eating out all the time. Processed food is garbage. People need to really start learning how to read a food label and they will see. Fast food restaurants and grocery stores are deadly. It all adds up in a day and they’re slipping little amounts into everything.
@@daisy1441 I did it progressively but I did it wrong in hindsight and would have done it differently knowing what I know now. I would get “sugar free” things to eat to satisfy urges but later learned that’s another hustle all in itself. Most things labeled that aren’t your friend either and are just labeled to look like they are. Full of sucralose, sugar alcohols, etc. which you can find studies on these that link them to killing healthy gut/intestinal flora and causing digestive and other eating disorders. Over time I just finally gave up my sweet tooth because I don’t really have the cravings anymore but if I was going to do it again I would have gotten creative in the kitchen with sweeteners like stevia extract or monk fruit, and almond flour if I was baking. I haven’t read negative health information about these sweeteners.
My favorite thing is he initially asked a question without a greeting to his guest like...thanks for being here blah blah blah. He gets straight to the point.
💯 agree. My mother started walking at 50 of age and has not stopped. She is 79 yrs of age, still walks and her mind is sharper then mine. No medication! Amazing!! She walks for 2 hrs every single morning and rest day is Sunday. Of course eating well. She is my idol. I am 53 of age now, been following her steps for 2 yrs now and I kid you not, not only the weight falls off but it just does so many other amazing things to your body and yes, your brain. Just amazing ♥️
Years ago, but due to the running, which he thought was helpful for his body, and after he was told that it would damage his knees, he finally had to get a knee operation.
You know, it's true. We've always said it's good to eat healthy and move, but thanks to this Dr., we finally know WHY, on a very real and biological level : the incredible importance of THE GUT . Our lifestyle habits and especially our intake of substances - foods, liquids, drugs, - whatever - go a long way to determining how long and how well we will live !
@@gigipizzuto4068 Still he obv knows what he's talking about to a fairly impressive level. I'm fairly sure you wouldn't know half of the details on each of those questions, as I didn't.
sometimes we go overboard ... we become obsessed with health issues ... and we end up spending our day measuring levels of everything. Daily exercise and a healthy low carb, no sugar diet is all we need to live a good healthy life. I am not going to spend my day terrified of higher levels of this and that.
The devil is in the details, and the details are important! Also, what gets measured gets done. You may not need to get into weeds, but many other people need to do so.
I'm very grateful for learning the benefits of MCT oil. I'm someone who loves sweets and it's my main enemy in losing weight although I'm not obese, I am over the normal weight. Did keto and had a hard time losing weight. Took MCT oil and Boom! No more cravings especially for junk food!!! Even smelling the food doesn't make me crave for it at all. I no longer crave for sugar.
Ive learned that sugar has been the root to most of my problems. Im willing to try anything to curb my sweet tooth. How has MCT helped you? Im going to by some off amazon off the strength of this comment

My eyes turned teary when I saw Dr's eyes turned red when he was talking about the video sent by the kids mother. He could help the kid and many future kids...what a touching moment. He chocked. So do I , realization of having such a wonderful people on this earth. Thank you , Doc...we need doctors like you. 🤗
I'm in my 60s and have exercised every day all my life. We practically lived outside as kids. On a recent beautiful day, I noticed as I was walking that there wasn't one child at the playground, and I know there's lots of kids in that area. Way too much screen time obviously and maybe that includes the parents who are too busy on their computer to take their child to the park. So sad. Thank you for having one of my fav. health practitioners as a guest. I always learn something new. Dr. P mentions DHA being good for increasing BDNF - great to take a good quality cod liver oil (refrigerated) for that as well as some nuts. Pecans are my fav. since they have the best omega ratio (not so much omega 6 like in almonds and almond flour - I thiink people go overboard with this).
This is crazy! I worked in dementia care settings for 25 years of my life. I’m shocked at how true this is in regards to dementia and exercise. Once a patient gets placed in care after disease decline is no longer manageable at home. I see the rapid I mean RAPID decline in cognitive function that may be due to placement. Once your in that jail you no longer have adequate access to exercise in placement. I have seen stroke patients develop secondary dementia and now have a greater understanding of why the risk of developing probably doubles after stoke and other conditions that leave patients in a sedentary state whom at prior would not have any other biological or hereditary risk for this disease. Also depression. We know the factors between exercise and depression. 90 % of all my new residents in care within 6 months of placement end up on anti depressants. Oh I could go on. I’ve been fascinated with the topic of dementia for nearly 30 years. I’m Canadian west coast. I could carry on about how TOXIC the diets are in long term care as well. Lots of horror stories to share.
But yet cutting out ALL sources of sugar certainly isn't good! Fruit in particular has sugar, obviously, but (certain) fruit also fights inflammation. Basically, if you stick more to sugar in fruit but also exercise you should be in great shape.
I’m addicted to Impact/Health theory. What’s awesome is not only do these guests add value to your life, and inspire you, each episode has applicable information that we can all use. This is the channel to watch in 2019 if you’re set on self-improvement. Thank you, Tom!

Being in the medical profession I can vouch that this great man's teachings challenge the average GP's thinking. What an extraordinarily interesting time spent with this doctor. Many thanks.
OMG, talk about a tear-jerker moment! My nephew has Aspbergers and hearing that story about the FMT and the boy with autism totally made me cry. So happy for him and his family and all those children that are being healed.
I got my dad off his statins 5 years ago after nearly 10 years of usage, He's 72 now and in a much better shape than when he was prescribed for his statins. He's over the moon and I'm glad my kids has a chance to spend time with a man I love and admire.
My husband has been off Coumadin for 12 years after 10 years taking it. He got a dog and walks him twice a day everyday. He claims he feels good and no more muscle aches.
@RusaForever no your wrong. Vegans can't survive on that diet. You literally have to eat multiple bowls for one serving. Also you cannot sustain body without supplements of vitamins, fish, eggs, and meat. Your d@m brain is literally made up of cholesterol, so yeah we need it and your focus on cholesterol is wrong. It is the lack of vitamin C&D that regulate the body ability to absorb calcium properly, which is why without vitamins you will calcify your arteries with plaque and also our bodies are very lacking in magnesium wich balance the other minerals and the human body cannot store, so it needs magnesium all the time. There are few vegetarian foods that are actually having nutrients, which is spinach.
Tom. Thanks for letting Dr. Perlmutter ramble on. He is incredibly interesting and knowledgeable. I've just recently discovered your show and am mesmerized. Great job and thanks again!
Perlmutter is so wonderfully clear, articulate, and cogent. So many interviewees drop a thread of thought when they get distracted by a question or a tangent. This guy does not. His brain is an example of a well-working one. Great interview.
He mutters forth Perls!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 Just a joke. But seriously, excellent information. I have really limited my sugar intake for decades now but I still eat my eggs! He vindicated me! Thx Doc!

I too quit sugar 3 days ago, it was like an epiphany. I've been wanting to do it for years. I remember watching Sharny and Julius(training program) talking about the biggest culprits when it came to sabotaging a diet and training and sugar of course was one of them. They then said, they couldn't afford to do that cheat day or cheat meal, they simply couldn't and had been much happier since they didn't allow themselves that cheat. It made the following days harder to stay focused on the goals, cravings were back etc. And it hit me. I decided to quit sugar like a smoker quits smoking, like an alcoholic quits drinking. I can't have just one and I know it. I cried on Thursday, I felt scared and at the same time resolute. It's for the best. I wish you success and health. It won't be easy all the time but so worth it. Take care! ❤
My dear friend was old enough to be my mother. She was the poster person for seniors at an athletic Bootcamp in our local paper for years. We constantly battled about using artificial sweeteners and diet sodas for years. It was not until her memory was really bad that I went to her kitchen and realized she was living off of muffins and cookies along with her diet drinks. I also know she did not sleep well. I am convinced it is a clean diet, exercise, and sleep that saves the brain.
Dr. Perlmutter is way ahead of other physicians in practice. The Grain Brain- a must-read! We're only going to get sicker unless we change our ways, but we are totally in charge! Thank you, Tom and Impact Theory.

Lots of lies and nonsense to sell products and books. And people believe him!!!! Ugh. This was great. Absolutely loved it. You ever heard the phrase "Listen to your gut". Yes, do listen to your gut. The gut is 100% connected with our brain. We truly are what we eat. When we were created we didn't have refrigerators full of food and fast food restaurants in every corner. The truth is, now days we eat too much and exercise very little. There were no cars, or any form of transportation when we were created. We are meant to look for our food, therefore, we had to exercise while looking for our food. We need to change the way we eat and need to exercise much more. Most importantly, we need to love each other. We are all one race. The Human Race.....
This doctor is amazing. Thank you so much for posting. My brother died in June with dementia and one of the problems I've noticed with him and sadly a couple of other people I know with dementia is they are addicted to sugar. When he was still living on his own he pretty much would only buy cookies, ice cream, sodas. Once he even tried to walk to the store to buy junk food and fell and was lucky one of his neighbors found him and took him home. I can't believe how they put sugar in everything, it's like they want everyone to be sick.
@@AmyLeeAngelLove Fruits are not healthy, yes they have more vitamins and minerals sure, but they are loaded with natural sugar, your body doesn't know the difference between fructose from a fruit or corn syrup from a soda, both cause blood sugar to shoot up and then body has to dump insulin, leave the fruit alone or have just a very small amount of berrries here and there.
I doubt it was the sugar and more likely to be the "fortified" flour and all of the canola oil and high fructose corn syrup in those things you mentioned. Sugar gets a bad rap for what other nefarious food stuffs are doing
Yes Ernest, from my perspective all of this matches what I have learned in 64 years of life, living, and watching people not live well. AND, when I myself have felt better than other times. Exercise: if you don't use it you lose it; and, what you keep nourished "well" is different for each person. That is why the saying, Physician heal thyself, is relevant, because we are the only ones that can monitor on a daily, hourly, basis what makes us feel well, and what does not. Being able to measure all of these things can be mimicked with journaling, and speaking with a skilled nutritionist, MD who has studied nutrition (because they all have not), or other informed healthcare provider. Did not mean to come in and speak this long. It is just a very important aspect for whether or not all the Coaching I give people is sustainable is whether or not they are well enough to commit to being able to achieve their goals....ergo, support groups. Be well everyone.
The last two year, I had become greatly addicted to sugar. I decided one month ago to go raw vegan since I had already done it for a few years and it did good to my body. I was aiming to heal my body. More so the fact that I had severe acid reflux and it had done so much damage that I now had asthma symptoms, ear pain, sore throat, and was basically very sick for more than one month. This scared me so much knowing I was responsible for this just by eating so much sugar! I now see a huge difference by eating good food. My brain is thanking me every day. I feel vibrant, no longer in a daze, the acid reflux is almost gone and the coughing is rare and no longer constant. Food can be our friend or our enemy and the addiction to sugar or bad fat is so destructive.
sugar is excellent for your health. I promise. look into the work of Dr. Ray Peat. If you don't eat sugar your body is going to take it from wherever it can get it =bones, muscles... Your brain and liver function on glucose. What you feel when going vegan is a major cortisol spike and a reduction in symptoms due to your immune system being shut down by the abundance of polyunsaturated fats that are prevalent in a vegan diet. I don't mean to rain on your parade but for whatever reason, I felt compelled to write you this. Remember sugar and high fructose corn syrup act pretty differently in the body. If you want to listen to some podcasts about all of this look up Danny Roddy. He interviewed Dr. Peat a lot. Also, you can read a lot of Peat's articles by just looking him up. Anyway, I wish you the best.
i am addicted to sugar but i just can't get off it with the withdrawal symptoms, i can only reduce it but never completely take out added sugar. I found quitting caffeine to be easier.

This is the most sensible, interesting, and informative video that I believe I have ever seen. I always since a child believed food is the true medicine and that the gut is very much connected to the operation of the brain. I loved his idea of connection in all arenas. Fascinating.

Perlmutter is a physician from Naples, as I am, and when he first started talking about this the entire medical community of “dinosaur” doctors here said he was crazy. Because of his courage to be a medical heretic, I am going to be pursuing a similar path to help patients break free from the ignorance they are being sold by conventional doctors.
When I keto and get used to it, I walk into convenient stores or walk in to Walmart and it feels like I get hit with a bag of sugar. It's crazy how sensitive you can get to it.

It's difficult for people to get off of sugar. 15 days cold turkey is required. Check every label. Restaurants put it in everything. I'd cook at home for the 2 weeks.
Incredible interview, really thought provoking. I have experienced the negative effects of sugar recently and I can't believe how quickly I felt the effects. Been eating very healthily for about six months now. Cut out sugar and gluten and mostly eating wholefoods. I went on holiday and lapsed a little, figuring that a few treats wouldn't harm. Wow, within a few hours I was grumpy, foggy headed, and lethargic. Taught me a lesson for certain. Sugar is NOT a treat.
You know...if everyone in the news and talk shows wore hoodies like you they’d be a bit more fun to watch. I love your casual yet interested style of approaching your guests ... always a pleasure to sit down and watch these interviews shortly before bedtime. Cheers!
I guess you did not watch it to the end. He is using this to promote the exploitation of animals, not to mention the negative health effects to the sucker that purchase it.

I’ve been on the ketogenic diet for 191 days now , I did this because I have fatty liver and learned that the keto diet allows your body to burn fat for fuel instead of glucose and in doing so it will reverse fatty liver . Since then my blood sugar went from 177 to 91 ( measured at 1 hr after dinner), my A1c from 6.1 to 5.5 , my liver enzymes from AST =69 and ALT =121 down to AST= 27 and ALT =33 , my total cholesterol was 191 and now 174 , my BP is now at 124/80 without my BP meds ( I was hypertension165/96) ( I’m supper excited to get off those drugs! 😁) also my weight is down from 209 to 179 all this and I’m 55 years old and drank alcohol most my life . Recently I noticed getting light headed during work and was concerned so I switched up some foods, drinks etc to no relief, then I noticed my BP lower than normal so I decided to skip days then I noticed I was only light headed when I took my meds . So while monitoring my BP twice a day I stopped taking my BP meds and my light headedness hasn’t returned and my BP is 121/74 so I will continue with what is working, I will tell my Dr what I did my next visit as it seems he wouldn’t believe the ketogenic diet is what really helping me even though my blood work is stellar after 5 months of ketosis 😁 Please don’t take advice from me , I’m no dr ! Super interesting watch. I’m 48 and in perimenopause and my body definitely can’t process sugar with ease anymore. That alone has made me reduce my sugar consumption and I’m no longer as susceptible to the spikes/crashes.
I started a KETO diet a while back where I eat a great deal more Fats in my diet and virtually zero Breads. Most of my chronic conditions have been cleared up thru my diet. I have also lost 23 pounds so far, and I have been doing this for only a month.
Most doctors are pharmaceutical salespeople lacking curiosity. They are largely non-healers. I’m not sure why anyone not after root causes would want to become a physician.

@@matty6878 70% chocolate is a gateway drug for me unfortunately :(
You're all missing the mark.

I cook most my food for the very same reasons..
Did you cut down your sugar intake or cut it out and sub another sweetener? If so what sweetness? TKS. ☺️🌸

Been telling my patients this since 2012. Food is life! Inflammation is the source of most health issues. Thank you Doc!
Hi
Dr. Barry Sears talked about inflammation after his Zone Diet fame.

Human evolution is too slow, society changes too fast, this is the problem
I know of someone who suffered with Alzheimer's/Dementia and ate a very healthy diet his whole life with minimal sugar.
It's because he is buying junk food... not eating healthy fruit. High fat diets and heavy metals comes into play as well.

Dr Perlmutter is the most amazing man in the healthcare on social media! Thank you for this interview!!
Best interview ever. I'll be looking at Dr Perlmutter more. Tom, you are by far the best interviewer ever.
This talk with this gentleman is a huge gift to every single American. Please unwrap the gift and take it to heart
You know...if everyone in the news and talk shows wore hoodies like you they’d be a bit more fun to watch.
I love your casual yet interested style of approaching your guests ... always a pleasure to sit down and watch these interviews shortly before bedtime.
Cheers!
Wow this content is free... let that sink in for a minute...

I guess you did not watch it to the end. He is using this to promote the exploitation of animals, not to mention the negative health effects to the sucker that purchase it.

He gets paid alot of money from RUclips...

I’ve been on the ketogenic diet for 191 days now , I did this because I have fatty liver and learned that the keto diet allows your body to burn fat for fuel instead of glucose and in doing so it will reverse fatty liver . Since then my blood sugar went from 177 to 91 ( measured at 1 hr after dinner), my A1c from 6.1 to 5.5 , my liver enzymes from AST =69 and ALT =121 down to AST= 27 and ALT =33 , my total cholesterol was 191 and now 174 , my BP is now at 124/80 without my BP meds ( I was hypertension165/96)
( I’m supper excited to get off those drugs! 😁) also my weight is down from 209 to 179 all this and I’m 55 years old and drank alcohol most my life . I decided to let alcohol go and life a healthy vibrant life from here on . Keto may not be for everyone but it damn sure works for people with insulin resistance and high blood glucose or are pre-diabetic like I was .
Great video , thank you Dr ! 😁✌️🇺🇸
How did you go off your BP meds? I am losing a lot of weight IF/keto but afraid to stop taking the BP meds.
@@dmmcmah1 I took a chance , I didn’t tell my Dr as he rolls his eyes at my decision to embrace a ketogenic diet for my health. I am currently prescribed two BP meds ( lasartan and norvasc) I have a BP machine to check my BP daily I have been wanting to get off all meds however in the past they surly helped drop my BP . Recently I noticed getting light headed during work and was concerned so I switched up some foods, drinks etc to no relief, then I noticed my BP lower than normal so I decided to skip days then I noticed I was only light headed when I took my meds . So while monitoring my BP twice a day I stopped taking my BP meds and my light headedness hasn’t returned and my BP is 121/74 so I will continue with what is working, I will tell my Dr what I did my next visit as it seems he wouldn’t believe the ketogenic diet is what really helping me even though my blood work is stellar after 5 months of ketosis 😁
Please don’t take advice from me , I’m no dr ! I’m just sharing what worked for me 😁
@@buddyringo21 "he rolls his eyes at my decision to embrace a ketogenic diet " Yes that is very common, I get the same reaction.
@@dmmcmah1 MD Dr’s are into giving meds and I don’t like that . The only Dr I trusted for years is the mortician! At least that guy’s mistakes don’t matter! 😝. Then I stumbled across Dr Eric Burg and Dr EcBurg and several others including “ low carb down under” and since then I have a restored faith in Doctors 😁 I will continue to rub my primary Dr’s nose in my ketogenic diet metabolic success 😜
Once again - another amazingly informative interview Tom. Thank you bringing this info to the masses!!!
This is absolutely fascinating! I really hope the mainstream start waking up and realize we can’t just eat anything we want and expect our bodies to take care of us. Such an eye opener!
I’ve already commented once but this is some of the most amazing information I have heard. I love this guy! He is so full of knowledge and is basically telling us how we can avoid chronic disease and live a longer life without poor health. I can’t get enough of Dr. Perlmutter and his brain hahaha! Phenomenal!
This guy is great!!! Thank you for having him on your show
you love this guy so much why dont you give him a BJ!
The statin issues was the final straw into my journey to discover all of these wonderful insights, esp. the impact of lectins on gut walls. After a year of statins I became nearly disabled from myalgia. Lying on the table with massage therapist it hurt just for my muscles to hang from my rib cage.
When I was a kid I always wondered why nobody spoke or promoted Sugar and their brands. Never a story, never a word or a peep about where sugar came from. It just came. Now I know the reason.
Great Tom! Enjoyed your interview very much again.
An amazing, fascinating interview. Dr Perlmutter is in my top 3 favourites. Tom, great questions and thank you for listening so well, you are the best.
I found this interview extremely interesting, an eye opener and encouraging. I was born with a genetic disposition to psoriatic arthritis and anxiety and depression. All these things began at a very young age and have been treated with the latest conventional medical treatments for which I’m grateful. However, I would like to be healed and live a fuller life. My husband has diabetes and we are both overweight. Thank you for your desire to help others and your hard work. Thank you for the information in this interview.
Absolutely extraordinario Dr. Davd Perlmutter, great Interview.
I have have 9 9 9 9 and o and I have o oo oo and oo7
I am so so impressed with the amazing questions you come up with Tom. You are one of THE BEST interviewers I've ever watched!! Thank you to you and your amazing team!!!
Interviewing on the next level. This was not only informative and challenging (in terms of content and opinion) but also an absolute pleasure to watch. Bravo!
Great content and interview Tom. I've read Dr Perlmutter's book, Grain Brain, and it was good to hear him speak on other important health issues.
I love this man; having read Grain Brain, I have made my brain amazingly faster.
I have experienced a great deal of the effects this man is describing I had already experienced in my diet change before watching this video.
Most of my chronic conditions have been cleared up thru my diet.
I have also lost 23 pounds so far, and I have been doing this for only a month.
Huge thank you Tom. I watch many of your interviews and think for me, this one with Dr Perlmutter one of best.
Most doctors are pharmaceutical salespeople lacking curiosity. They are largely non-healers. I’m not sure why anyone not after root causes would want to become a physician. I love it when I see physicians break from the mainstream medical community and the hospitals training them. The ones that can’t be bought are worth gold.
That's why I hate hospitals and dentists too. If I go in, I end up coming out in worse condition.
I love the lower border where you track the big points that will be covered! Great idea!!!
Me, too!
