I think you're onto something about him being entirely confused. Remember that he had already taken off his helmet before he even got the dark saber. Perhaps, after that point, he considered himself an apostate and no longer a real Mandalorian. I feel like that's the real reason why he can't wield it correctly.
He doesn't really want to be a leader though. I think that's a big part of the problem, because he accepts Bo as a Mandalorian without her helmet. He doesn't want to be stuck in one place playing politics as leader. He didn't even want to be a sheriff.

Finally! Someone sees it right! I often come across a statement that Bo is worthy of Darksaber because you can see that it is light for her. Bo has no problem using Darksaber because, as you said, she is focused, her mind and body are in harmony. Such perception of this scene, that Bo is worthy and Din is not, may result from a certain logical error that if a character says something, the viewer considers the words to be a fact and here is the problem. When Armorer says someone worthy can wield the Darksaber it's not a fact it's just information, information that is distorted by HER perception of the world and by what SHE believes, not the fact of how it really is. The fact is that the Darksaber is just a lightsaber, nothing more, and like any lightsaber has a crystal that senses its user to some extent exactly as you said in the video, it shows its true nature, being worthy is just something the mandalorians believe in and nothing else, it's a belief, and we know that fact does not equal faith because if something is a fact then it is a fact and no amount of belief or unbelief will change that. Worthy or not, if you achieve peace of mind and body and you are focused, you can wield the Darksaber whether you won it in battle or stole it from someone. I'm also convinced that after Din has been purified in Living Waters, the Darksaber will become much lighter, of course he won't swing it like a Jedi Master or Bo right away, but he'll be able to at least start training with it or use it more often without fear.
For sure. The main thing is being firm in your emotions/ beliefs. You have to let the darksaber function as an extension of yourself. I think we will will see that in the next few episodes.
Honestly I'm curious to see where they take him and bo. Bo seems to have grown in a lot of ways and if she gets her spirit back through Din she would make a great ruler on her own. She also could be a great counselor for Din. Also seems like they may be getting set up as a couple which I'm willing to ship.
Lol my following post was made before watching the vid. Been seeing alot of vids on this subject and few of them were not wrong, but got near the same idea as this vid. its about self confidence. When you are accepting of yourself, all of yourself and at balance, that is when the blade will respond to you. It is how almost all lightsabers react. When a bleed lightsaber crystal is near a Sith that is pure about being sith, it will empower him. When a Jedi is in balance with the Light side of the Force, their lightsaber will reflect this, and empower them. Moff Gideon had not problems with whom he was, and though he is evil, he is in balance with himself. Bo Katan has accepted herself, and trained with the blade, so seeing her wield it as well as a none force user can, made me so happy to see. Din Jharin has a ways to go, but when he reaches that peak, he will be unstoppable.
I think the Dark Saber requires focus. Focus on a singular goal vs worry and confusion. He had a sigular goal in S1 after he rejects the blade his focus became diverse(Grogu, Other mandos, etc)
Probably has issues with his family Legacy, he's from an honorable line that he wants to live up to but he also needs to deal with Pre Vizla's legacy in the death watch.
Star Wars Rebels also covered similar issues with Sabine learning to use it. She struggled with it until she started dealing with the issues around The Duchess and her banishment. In this season although Din is seeking redemption by Children of The Watch standards, his exposure to Mandalorians that believe differently such a The Night Owls and Boba Fett has caused him to start questioning his beliefs. Whether he realizes it or not he has started asking what does it mean to be a Mandalorian and The Mandalore, what is the importance of The Creed. I'm not sure this is going completely resolve his issues with the Khyber Crystal within the Dark Saber. He needs to find his own Way for the Mudhorns, himself and Grogu, to truly understand for himself what it means to be Mandalorian as opposed to just what others say and teach. Once he comes to that realization is also when he will be able to start reuniting the different factions of Mandalorians despite their differences in doctrine and belief. It would also be amusing if in the process of self discovery Din Djarin stumbles upon The Mask of The First Mandalore hidden millennia ago by a man both Jedi and Sith.
Yeah....no, this is the Bokatan show this season. Where even the armorer said she is to unify all mandalorians. I just hate that they have been skimping on the story and making pretty much all other mandalorians look like idiots just to prop her up.
I know we are talking in-universe lore, etc... but I think the real reason that Moff Gideon could wield the saber is that they had not yet decided that the Dark Saber would be unique in the way it's weight increases by the wielder, etc. I know in Rebels Kanaan mentions how deceptively heavy it is, but that's a bit different than what is going on now.
I really hope we will get a scene of both Djin Djarin with the Darksaber & Grogu using a long stick both practicing doing the Jedi lightsaber offensive/Defensive fighting techniques. Maybe after the next memory flashback for Grogu he will remember those techniques he has been learning. Especially with Luke. Alongside getting any tips from Bo Katan instructing him on how she learned to wield the blade herself
Mando becomes the next mandalore Boba takes the darksaber as the second leader Bo katan becomes the next dutchess finally accepting her real role all along
Or it’s actually because Bo-Katan spent over half a decade wielding and training with the Darksaber. It’s not like she picked up some unfamiliar weapon and used it like a champ randomly. Kanan perfectly explains in Rebels why it’s hard to wield. It also doesn’t help Din has it, but only uses it as a last resort and never trains with it.
Season 1 and 2, Mando is a bounty hunter, expert in his craft... Season 3 he's weak, incompetent, and is constantly needing rescue, by much stronger, smarter, woman... sound familiar? The Force is Female - Kathleen Kennedy
I'm leaning towards Bo-Katan taming the mythosaur and eventually earning the darksaber precisely because of her birth and sense of destiny. I can't see Din Djarin being happy on a throne as he's the classic wandering warrior type. What would turn the story into a predictable tragedy is if Bo-Katan dies and Din becomes a reluctant king. (Imagine if Geralt of Rivia did that... brrr! Bo-Katan would be like Ciri in this story - a woman destined for a throne, but maybe she dies instead.)
There is a small chance that the roles reversed now. Because Din now focused and didn’t have major internal conflict. But Bo-Katan after seeing mythosaur maybe starts rethinking her live choices and beliefs
Maybe we will see a tiny force using foundling with a history of taming huge beasts and perhaps the ability to handle the Dark Sabre become the new Mandalore.
Bingo! He removed his helmet before he acquired the saber. I imagine as zealous as he is, he considered himself an apostate. No way that's conducive to wielding the dark saber.
I believe they are showing us the Din isn't the intended owner of the Dark saber. Or maybe that once he leaves to weild it properly, he will be an immensely strong character
I'd like to point out that Bo Katan never really swings the sabre. When the sabre moves, she uses her entire body to move the sabre. Its as though she knows its heavy so she uses as much momentum to get the sabre to go where she wanted. Did she swing the sabre under the greivous bot. NO. She ran with the sabre, using her body to brace the sabre as it made its cuts. Also when she stabs the greivous bot, she utilizes it like a spear. I don't think the sabre is light for her. I think she knows how to use a heavy weapon unlike Din Djarin.
A great idea would be for Mando to get contacted by Luke Skywalker after he asks for help wielding the Darksaber. Then Luke finds him and says "I have the holycron made by Tar Vizla. That could be how Dinn masters the Darksaber.
I just assumed it was the magnetic pull the dark saber creates, like it's constantly pulling itself towards his beskar plates whenever the blade is drawn.
He’s going to end up going back to the creed, they’re going to reunite with Bo-Katan, fall out and Dins going to side randomly take his helmet back off again to show a truce between both clans
I don't know where all this is going...there are so many variables it's mind boggling! I have a general idea but the next episode can't come fast enough. I think it's also going to be a head turner. Season 1 and 2 was great but damn season 3 started with a Bang!
Fans often forget the fact that Kyber Crystal's are living entities with their own connection to the force, they can feel and given how all beings are connected to the force through the midichlorians it's needless to say that the crystal is attuned to those that use them. To quote Jedi Knight Caleb Dume "Energy constantly flows through the crystal, you are not fighting with a simple blade as you are directing a current of power. Your thoughts, your actions they become energy, they flow through the crystal as well and become a part of the blade".
I like your take the best, good work! The only thing I’ll add is Bolatan didn’t take her helmet off at the end. Her eyes are opened after seeing the Mythosaur. Now I’m wondering if she’s gonna take her helmet off or does she want to take the creed? This is the way!
I theorize a different reason for Din Djarin's inner conflict. I think Din is resisting against the weight of the responsibilities of wielding the Darksaber. He's resisting against the weight of the destiny the Darksaber is burdening him with. He's so desperate to be accepted again by his clan, because they're the only Mandos who may accept him as he is. Everyone else? They see the Darksaber. Everyone can see - whatever Din Djarin is supposed to be doing with the Darksaber, he isn't doing it. I think Bo has a more complex journey to deal with, next trying to convince Din to take up the mantle, thinking she has utterly failed and that Din is the only chance for reuniting Mandalore. And then she's going to have a crazy shock to find out her destined role to be co-leader of Mandalore alongside Din. I think that Bo will try to help Din tame the Mythosaur, but they will fail. There's only one person who can ride the Mythosaur, and that's its mommy. The first person it saw. Bo-Katan. It was completely random, or it was completely fate. Either way, the only reason Bo was there was her purely selfless act of helping Din in his quest - even if she didn't believe in the quest herself. But that's the key that opens up her path to her true destiny. She must overcome her selfishness ... even her justifiable need for redemption for all the things she has done or let happen. Din unwittingly won the Darksaber because his motivation was a pure selfless act to help Grogu. Bo-Katan unwittingly "tamed" the Mythosaur because her motivation was a pure selfless act to help Din.
Idk if anybody reviewing the show has noticed or talked about the fact that Din lost the darksaber in combat against that cyborg guy and Bo won it back by defeating him. Twice.
@@LukiKruki no, I got it, the dictionary says a duel has to be consensual between the two parties so like I said you might be in the right. It'd be a trip if Grogu ended up with the saber and the Mithosaur one day

I think they have made it subtle but also obvious that it's dins uncertainty with where he stands in his clan, his emotional baggage he has yet to fully work out that all contributes in weighing down the darksaber...bo has trained with the darksaber n has had plenty of time to work out her personal baggage if any pertaining to the darksaber use..din on the other hand has this "darksaber obligation" hanging over his head that he never wanted n got by accident, he still hadn't decided how he wants to move foward with that obligation, and on top of that he is stressed out about being a "apostate" so all those things are weighing the saber down! now that he has addressed the apostate situation, he now has to decide how he wants to deal with the whole "darksaber bearer" delimma and until he has accepted his place as the holder of the darksaber and embrace it as its "daddy" among other fatherly responsibilities, the darksaber is gonna stay stubborn n he won't be able to wield it properly. he's gotta embrace it as his own the same way embraced grogu after fighting it for so long!
I think it works less like being sound of mind and body, and more of knowing what it is you want to DO with the darksaber, and how strongly you're focused and dedicated to that purpose. If it was the former, then someone like the Armourer, who is soundly committed in her care of the Watch members and her craft, wouldn't have any issues, yet we see in BoBF that she finds the darksaber to be quite heavy as well, probably because she has no need or want for it, so it rejects her. Another example would be Paz Vizsla, who wanted the saber purely to reclaim the history of his clan and spite Din, and could barely get it off the ground. Bo-katan can wield the saber properly because she knows it's history and capability and exactly what she would do with it if it once again came into her possession. She has clear goals, and even though her army and supporters abandoned her and she claims to have given up, she still has a deep conviction to retake and rebuild her homeworld, and knows what a rallying sign the darksaber is. Right now, Din has no clear path. He wants to be redeemed and to return to serving the CotW, and to care and teach Grogu, but that's about it. This might be a product of his profession as a bounty hunter, where every target is a new challenge and you're essentially living paycheck to paycheck. I hope we'll get to see him figure out his life, maybe as Grogu becomes stronger and independent and Din doesn't have to helicopter parent him all the time. So yeah, I don't think the ability to use the darksaber is linked to soundness of mind or anything like that. It's knowing the blade, and knowing what you want to do with it, either as a weapon, symbol, whatever.
I think Din’s undeveloped skill with the Dark Saber represents his refusal to accept the hero’s journey. At the moment Din’s focus is on restoring his place among his creed. But he hasn’t accepted his journey as Mandalore’s leader. Once he accepts this destiny he will become one with the Dark Saber. But the Dark Saber’s history has done more to divide the Mandalorian people rather than uniting them. It almost as if the Dark Saber has the power to corrupt the wielder. Bo-Katan herself seem to be more obsessed with the power that the Dark Saber represents. Rather than uniting her people. I believe there’s a reason the Dark Saber was stored away by the Jedi thousands of years ago. Is because it’s powered by a Dark crystal that gives it the appearance that it has. Tarre Vizsla full history has yet to be revealed. We may find that the Mandalorian version of Tarre Vizsla’s history is maybe romanticized to fit their warrior culture. The reality maybe that Tarre Vizsla’s history is one of corruption and betrayal of the Jedi Order of the old republic. One that would create a war against the Jedi and Mandalorians.
could it be that its heavy for din bc he is conflicted bc he believes he isnt worthy bc he removed his helmet and is an outcast. and now that he has been in the water of life his mind will be more at ease making if easier for him to use it.
Knowing the true reason for Mando's struggle when wielding the Darksaber, it's possible that back in Season 2, Din Djarin did not struggle to wield it after when he defeated Moff Gideon, despite not getting any action from Mando using it back then. That's probably because the fact that he had a singular focus (that being rescuing Grogu). The only proof I can think of is that Din managed to hold the Darksaber with one hand as he took Gideon to Bo Katan. It was after when he removed his helmet in front of Grogu, that he began to struggle with the Darksaber, as he was worried of not only that he removed his helmet, but also possibly his concerns for Grogu.
The bug creature won it in battle from Mando, did he not? Then Bo won it in battle from the bug creature, did he not? Bo Katan has right to the Darksaber.
The dark saber is like Excalibur, its the sword of a king or a supreme leader , its not the tool a loyal soldier who wishes to serve a good leader, the of purpose of the dark saber is to rule, and anyone that uses it must be focused on that same end .
From a story point of view, its heavy so that the show can bring Ahsoka into an episode to train him, just like Sabine was with Kanan, Bo will probably suggest that he finds Ahsoka knowing how Sabine Wren learned... Two things I could see happening in the show are - 1) the Armourer in the future will craft a new heavier armor for Dinn once the children of the watch support him as the new Mandalore, as his current armour is for someone of his station in the watch. 2) Bo-Katan will become a supporter of his rise to becoming Mandalore and feature more in the show..
I think the point of this episode was that Din’s commitment to the creed was self destructive. Every time he tries to pursue his “redemption”, he gets almost killed and then needs to be rescued by Bo Katan. It’s a pretty solid theme about how harmful devotion to arbitrary beliefs is.
There is another aspect here. Light sabers are kyber crystal weapons. They are sentient crystals in canon. If they are silicon life forms with force powers the crystal is actually telekinetically wielding itself. If Din wants to hold it or position it wrong it will push/pull in the other direction. He would perceive that as weight. If he wants to hold the blade too lower to close it will seem uncontrollably light and prone to over swing. This is the same as your psychological points. The Jedi is not just using precognition to anticipate attacks but to communicate with the saber so they are in synch. In the hands of a Mandalorian the Saber is a little more in charge. Bo Katan trained with a Jedi in the room. Mando has not. Grogu doesn't count until he can talk.
Din doesn’t feel worthy. The responsibility that comes with weighs it down. Bo feels worthy of the responsibilities that come with the darksaber. It does not weigh her down.
The Armorer didn't really know how to use it though. Watch Star Wars Rebels again, Ezra and Kanaan teach Sabine how to use the Lightsaber. Bo Katan either was taught by Jedi, or by Sabine how to use it. Use of a Lightsaber is more about being in tune with yourself. Sabine had huge troubles using the Dark Saber until she revealed all the weight she held on her own shoulders.
I think the talk of Din getting the Dark Sabre back is ridiculous !!! Bo has it legitimately ... She is the rightful leader ... Din has always supported Bo in her quest !!!

For sure. The main thing is being firm in your emotions/ beliefs. You have to let the darksaber function as an extension of yourself. I think we will will see that in the next few episodes.
Agreed. I think Din lacks the inner peace and focus because he had already taken off his helmet before he got the saber.
Honestly I'm curious to see where they take him and bo. Bo seems to have grown in a lot of ways and if she gets her spirit back through Din she would make a great ruler on her own. She also could be a great counselor for Din. Also seems like they may be getting set up as a couple which I'm willing to ship.
Good way to unite the Mandalorian factions. Din could argue to the watch that they are all children of Mandalore.
What about vizla? He used the dark Saber for a little in his fight with Mando and he was weighed down
vizla knows the weight of its purpose too and does not rest in his own purpose
This comment right here ☝️
Husband: Where did he get that dark saber from?
Wife: He went to Djarin
Yeah....no, this is the Bokatan show this season. Where even the armorer said she is to unify all mandalorians. I just hate that they have been skimping on the story and making pretty much all other mandalorians look like idiots just to prop her up.
Din doesnt even have the dark saber anymore 💀
Because she's a disney princess now
Also
Because he's a supporting character now and it's all about bo now
I bet there will be an episode where Din will be forced to use the darksaber to protect grogu, and there he will use it flawlessly
Not anymore, he doesnt own the saber anymore
I think its simply that bo-katan is more connected to the weapon than din-jarin is on a force level
*Beavis and Butthead voices* "she uses the darksaber better than Din huh huh huh huh!"
I just love *LOVE* the darksaber this is definitely my favorite lightsaber varient and I can't wait to see more of it
By this reasoning, now that he has redeemed himself by creed, he should now be able to wield the Darksaber effectively.
Doesn't matter now, he gave the Dark Saber back to Bo Katan
You were right about one thing for sure. It was the last moment we seen him struggle with dark saber. LOL
This is really good, and hopefully in episode 3 we see him wield the Darksaber more easy now that he bathed in the water
I don't even think Ezra had a hard time with it.
He already gone through with his Darkseid issue at the time.
The jedi dont have problem to use it because of the force.Normal people cant wield ot wothout training
damn it’s like maybe he’s a jedi or something idk
@@ChiliSainz I know right.
I wanna see him do some proper training with dark saber 🙏
Mando becomes the next mandalore
Boba takes the darksaber as the second leader
Bo katan becomes the next dutchess finally accepting her real role all along
Aaaaaaand then we have the next episode 😅
These Star Wars RUclipsrs need to learn the damn lore
Or it’s actually because Bo-Katan spent over half a decade wielding and training with the Darksaber. It’s not like she picked up some unfamiliar weapon and used it like a champ randomly.
Kanan perfectly explains in Rebels why it’s hard to wield. It also doesn’t help Din has it, but only uses it as a last resort and never trains with it.
Anyone else hate that they're treating the darksaber as some sort of sentient magical item instead of the piece of tech that it is?
Mandalorian use all and anything at there disposal to win there's no glory in death btw love the videos
Stuff like this makes me want a Mandalorian crusade movie series even more
I would love to see the mandalorian use the darksaber perfectly in the end of season 3
Maybe we will see a tiny force using foundling with a history of taming huge beasts and perhaps the ability to handle the Dark Sabre become the new Mandalore.
After his baptism he'll probably be able to use it because everything he's used the darksaber was after he removed his helmet
Bingo! He removed his helmet before he acquired the saber. I imagine as zealous as he is, he considered himself an apostate. No way that's conducive to wielding the dark saber.
Now that he knows where the waters are he can just go bathe everytime he needs to remove it
Din will ride the Mythosaur. Grogu will mind soothe it and the two of them will ride off into the sunset.
John Wick would definitely be able to use the Dark Saber cos he's a man of focus, commitment and sheer f*cking will
I believe they are showing us the Din isn't the intended owner of the Dark saber. Or maybe that once he leaves to weild it properly, he will be an immensely strong character
Wahmen stronk
On Jin siso with the Obi-Wan Kenobi. He says that the enemies respond when they leave the location.
I half expected Grogu to force grab the Darksaber and do some slicing and dicing, but he really doesn't like violence.
He doesn't want what comes with the Darksaber. Ounce, he believes that he is worthy and that it will become effortless. You must believe.
He might need a Jedi to train him how to use it properly or Bo katan herself
Moff and Bo-Katan have used it before, and for a long time. So they know how to use it, they’ve had more time to perfect and learn how to use it.
People people don't worry Mando will soon use darksaber perfectly
I don't know where all this is going...there are so many variables it's mind boggling! I have a general idea but the next episode can't come fast enough. I think it's also going to be a head turner. Season 1 and 2 was great but damn season 3 started with a Bang!
Because she's a girlboss that can girlboss harder than anyone has ever girlbossed.
Bo-Katan unwittingly "tamed" the Mythosaur because her motivation was a pure selfless act to help Din.
i loved how the show evolve from Western Samurai to full blown religion . I'm excited for the rest of the season
Can someone help clear this up… did Din trip/slip or did the mythosaur pull him down ?
based on how many times he was saved I'd say he slipped... I presume cuz disney cant handle virtuous masculinity he has to be incompetent xdd
The dark saber’s weight is symbolic of the weight of rule. In many ways it’s the Star Wars equivalent of the sword of Damocles.
Idk if anybody reviewing the show has noticed or talked about the fact that Din lost the darksaber in combat against that cyborg guy and Bo won it back by defeating him. Twice.
It's not a duel.
Ok I looked it up, you might be right. I really appreciated the action in the ep. tho. No 'duel of fates' but still epic
@@reyvilla8501 I meant it needs to be duel between 2 people to transfer ownership of darksaber.
@@LukiKruki no, I got it, the dictionary says a duel has to be consensual between the two parties so like I said you might be in the right. It'd be a trip if Grogu ended up with the saber and the Mithosaur one day
@@LukiKruki oh I see what you're saying, you think the thing Bo fought was a droid? Naw, it had organic parts(the eye and probably the brain) it counts.Greivous and Vader were cyborgs. And come to think of it the duel with Gideon wasn't exactly a formal duel either
Mando riding a mythosuar holding the dark saber
[Edit] or bby yoga in mando armor next to the mythosaur holding the dark saber
I think it’s because of dinn feels confliction on his transgressions.
That sword looks for leaders. It must not sense that on him.
I did not look heavy for Din Jarin immediately after he took it from Moff Gideon ... only *after* he tried to give it away ... it became heavier?
Bo-Katan just earned herself a spin-off series...
Moff Gideon didn’t care about bringing back the empire. He wanted an army of force using clones so HE COULD CONQUER THE GALAXY
I suspect we're going to get Din consulting with Luke, Ashoka, or Ezra on how to wield it effectively this season.
Thank you for this video.
Sabin even had trouble with the darksaber.
Id love to see Grogu force tame the mythosaur, ride up and force pull the dark saber right out of Din's hand.
The bug creature won it in battle from Mando, did he not? Then Bo won it in battle from the bug creature, did he not? Bo Katan has right to the Darksaber.
It's all about your connection to the force know or unknown
The dark saber is like Excalibur, its the sword of a king or a supreme leader , its not the tool a loyal soldier who wishes to serve a good leader, the of purpose of the dark saber is to rule, and anyone that uses it must be focused on that same end .
THE KING OF MANDALORE!!!
Truly don't know why. But I just wanna see little Grogu in his helmet and beskarmail shirt with Yoda's lightsaber all the more now 🥺
Because it's Disney and they're all about elevating women, by tearing down men.
Simple she has more experience with it.
That still remimds me of "his shwartz is bigger then mine"
It doesn’t surprise me that she can use it. She used to wield it herself.
The Taxhi was my first Japanese sword love!
Din doesn’t feel worthy. The responsibility that comes with weighs it down. Bo feels worthy of the responsibilities that come with the darksaber. It does not weigh her down.
girl boss... thee end
Even Paz Visla struggled with the saber. Pherhaps he he feels ashamed of himself, not living up to his lineage of sorts.
