The presence of the jeep/people is what caused the lion not to kill the calf. They don't know how to react when an unknown source like this is present, so they become confused and just toy with the prey. I saw this exact same scenario in another video with a lioness and a baby gazelle I believe, and she looked like she was about to kill it until she noticed the humans following and recording her.
But there are plenty of videos with people recording lions who kill and start eating normally. I'm sure those lions don't know what the jeep full of people are either but as long as its not bothering them, they don't seem to care.
+kemi Are you talking about scenes from nature documentaries? Because those photographers camp out for days and are careful to hide themselves as well as possible.
+CowLunch There´s hunting/eating footage of safaris as these not just of documentaries and lions don´t really mind much...also the animals are used to that, it´s not like it´s the only safari to ever have happened in that lions territory. :p Letting calves alive is a tactic lions use to lure in bigger animals (a calf has a mother which has a herd, its screams lures the mother, win). It´s a young lion though, he doesn´t necessarily want to lure bigger prey, may just play with the food, or ate already and wants to preserve for later...many possibilities, that the safari has anything to do with is unlikely though since there´s no connection to if a lion eats or not if there´s people present or not, they simply don´t give a fuck.

Yeah. God bless all of the smaller and more innocent animals that get harmed and brutally killed, the way such poor animals like lambs and sheep, pigs and piglets, cows and calves, and others are so innocent and deserve to be saved, but sadly aren't, and many of them don't even go in a quick painless way. This is misleading people to believe the lion was trying to save the calf. What the lion was doing was keeping the calf alive and letting it yell as loud as it can in hopes that the mother would have the courage to return to save the calf. The lion does this because the grown adult mother is more of a meal than a calf. But if the mother doesn't return soon they just eat the calf.

okasha61 it's not a she it's a young male lion
kevin mucyo nah idk :pp
the lion lost its cub and know it is looking for a new one this is why there are so many vids like this it gives the lions something to love
Lion was like why are you running i just need you as my good friend
its cute apparently the lion was also hugging the baby calf
Aysha Brew cute
Let’s see how cute it will be to you when you stop believing everything you hear and realize that the lion is going to eat that calf
Letting calves alive is a tactic lions use to lure in bigger animals (a calf has a mother which has a herd, its screams lures the mother, win).
See man this is a love and friendship between Lioness and cute little Calf.
LOLOLOL Lion DIDN'T protect it are you kiddin.... I mean sure it did....... Protected it's meal it didn't want to share that is....
yep it saved its meal.
lions dont head boop meals. its a cat thing. she, at least at the time, had no intention of eating it.
dave yesiam Yeah.. Like I find dead mice all over my yard.... my cat plays with them until they are dead... she rarely eats them... maybe never..
She was testing to make sure she could eat it without the humans doing anything.
+brian griffin you find dead mice your cat plays with them until they are dead. lol. you need to learn to write.
the lioness is saving the food for later. She's full now

Lion : ugh guess not
This is absolutely Amazing.
Usually it's the other way around. Lioness saving an Antelope's baby from male Lions and, here we have a young Male Lion saving it from a Lioness.
Looks liks someone deliberately put that calf there to make a video. What a cruelty😠
That's one of the first things that ran across my mind.

Excellent acting by Lion..!!! He knows that people are coming to safari with cameras....

This is clearly a rare sight where we should a predator protecting a young prey animal
This shows that predator and prey kinda do get along pretty incredible
No animal exepte bugs and humans are cold blode killer....they do that to survive.......whan lions are not hungry 100 deers can be around them they would kill 0 of them....

W Rodrigues exactly, he didn't wanna share his food.

@@anandhapadmanabanm2980 Lion stomach was full, but lion wanted snack for later. Lion has no fridge. Best way to conservate meat is to hold it alive. Humans also do this.
@@bluepanda3020 Seems more this is due to the fact this was a young male who still has to learn how to properly hunt and kill, that got confused when the calf started to try to bond, mixed with him protecting his potential meal.
I hope I can save someone life like this I love that energy which is protective which cares about others.......

Calf should've hid under the vehicle or tried to jump in it. Seals have been seen jumping into boats to escape Orca. Doesn't always work, but its an effort to survive.
No
Calf: You saved me!
Lion: ehh i wouldn’t say saved more like saved in my tummy
Woman: He protected him
Lion: She really doesn't understand how this works, does she!
The woman at the end of the video said: "secondo me è sadico, ci vuole prima giocare e poi se lo magna". In italian it means: "i think he is savage, he wants to play with him at first and then he eats him"
What a shame the tourists seem to be enjoying this brutality !
This is a lesson for us whom says I'm human. But human with out humanity not qualified to be called human. These two lions should treat this baby as there food. But the lion turned as angel.
3:30 The girl said in Italian: "In my opinion the lion is just sadic, firstly he's going to play with it and then he will devour it".
When will humans stop shooting the shit all over the surrounding wildlife and start admiring it in silence?
Thanks for the translation. At least we know somebody actually understands that this is how teenage male lions train whether it’s before or after they’re kicked out
Baby Calf : C'mon eat me if you dare ?
Lion : Hold on, it's not dinner time yet.
that was hard to watch, especially when the calf was head butting it. Broke my heart.

God bless this baby calf. It's gut wrenching to see this video.
Yeah. God bless all of the smaller and more innocent animals that get harmed and brutally killed, the way such poor animals like lambs and sheep, pigs and piglets, cows and calves, and others are so innocent and deserve to be saved, but sadly aren't, and many of them don't even go in a quick painless way. I wish there was less violence and suffering in this world

He wasn’t saving that Calf he was protecting his food 😂😂
This is misleading people to believe the lion was trying to save the calf. What the lion was doing was keeping the calf alive and letting it yell as loud as it can in hopes that the mother would have the courage to return to save the calf. The lion does this because the grown adult mother is more of a meal than a calf. But if the mother doesn't return soon they just eat the calf.
Interesting method.
Genius
Nah or maybe because he's Young and was just testing
In the full video ,he let the calf go after 5 hours. The calf was even much stronger and faster than he is in this short clip when the lion let her go
