I've always loved this piece, since I was a kid. Very much a concerto for orchestra. It's very interesting to compare this piece with the last symphony he wrote, the 15th. Aside from Wagner's fate motif, which is handled very differently in the two pieces, there are many other intersections that describe an entire life in an amazing musical way. Superb playing and so fun watching Alain work with this amazing orchestra. Thank you, Frankfurt!!

Another great performance from this wonderful orchestra (firing on all cylinders!). But again, most of all, what wonderful wonderful music from the symphonic master himself.

Here's another fun fact: he wrote this as an exam in his conservatory basically just to prove that he know how to write symphonies. The examiner thought it was so good that it had to be played in the Leningrad philharmonic hall

A world class performance by a world class orchestra. Don't they give standing ovations in Frankfurt? You could go 50 years and not hear a performance that good.

Astoundingly mature and original creation from a 19 year old composer. Brilliant performance all around from this group of musicians.

    Hello!
Congratulations on an incredible performance, as always!
I come to suggest the presentation and recording of Symphony No. 1, "The Bells of Zlonice", by Antonín Dvořák. Unfortunately, there is no full recording on RUclips.
I'm sure your performance will be an excellent record of this incredible work, as well as a gift for us listeners of good music and a memorable tribute to Dvořák.
    Please consider my suggestion.
I thank you for your attention!

I really gotta say...this orchestra has the most wonderful 2nd Clarinetist. Magdalena Faust really has the technique and cleanliness in the 4th movement duo solos that you don't hear often in this piece (25:11). There's also the Dvorak 9 that she plays very well in the 3rd movement in another vod. BRAVO!
