Tongans weren't disrespectful, the rule for hakas is you can't cross the half way line or you get fined but the kiwis walked right past it lol It was warranted because the Tonga's best Player Jason Taumalolo turned down the Kiwis to play for Tonga at this Rugby League World Cup, he was also the one who led Tongas Sipi Tau(Haka).
The 10 metre separation rule was imposed by the International Rugby Board, the international ruling body for Rugby Union. This is Rugby League, so the IRB has no power to make any ruling on anything.

Most of the players in the Tongan team are NZers and Australians. For many years both NZ and Australia have used the Pacific players and our Pacific teams have never been competitive. When the superstars from Australia and NZ decided to play for Tonga this shocked them. They turned their backs on Money and played for their little island courage playing respect to their heritage. Tonga beat NZ then a year later beat Australia. Tonga has the best fans ever!!

Every Polynesian islands have their own version of war dances per se. Maori’s of New Zealand 🇳🇿 have the Haka, Cook island’s 🇨🇰have their own version of Haka adapted from Maori’s migrating there, Tongan’s of Tonga 🇹🇴 have the Sipi Tau, Samoan’s of Samoa 🇼🇸 have the Siva Tau, etc.

All of Polynesia have their own versions of a war dance, even native Hawaiians once did too. Unsure if they still do. For example, Haka is Māori, Sipi Tau is Tongan , Siva Tau is Samoan etc.
Also, Māori are the first people of Aotearoa (New Zealand). Kiwis are a native bird or what the world has called non-Māori people of NZ.
The haka in war was to intimidate (the uglier the pūkana the better) and challenge the opposition and incite their warriors to battle. Applying that to rugby, Tonga dealt with it as to be expected. Besides, Polynesians are still very closely related in language, genealogy, culture and traditions. :)

In this clip, 2 indigenous ppls challenging one another and the crowd is going wild with anticipation. This haka is a challenge to the opposing team.
When the Tongan team move forward, they're answering the challenge. Neither team is willing to back down which is what you want from you're team.

Its not disrespectful at all, as years past, they used to do the walk up, but because it may cause confrontation to either side, they then put in the rule of not crossing over, but who knows, the Kiwis may have gotten permission from the Tongan side to be allowed to cross over to complete their challenge, then you see the Tongan side cross slightly over, and the Tongans may have also ask for permission to the kiwis. Of 2 pacific nations playing together on the field, it's mind blowing passionate emotions that come in2 play for both, but we got to highlight the point of these players, they probs started playing in NZ anyway, but it's like a 2nd home for the Tongans as well, as I am sure they have a lot of whanau living here in Aotearoa....There was no black lash about the crossing at all from the hierarchy's, so that to me seems like permission was asked and permission given...My opinion only....

No it was never rude or disrepectful, thats what we called challenging... they Kiwi team laid down their challenge and the Tongans MMT heartily accepted it by that challenge, the kiwis crossed over to the tongan's territory thus, since this was war between the 2 teams the Tongans were reacted , by crossing over to stop the Kiwi from invading their territory!!! this is a battle in the rugby league field... thus No the Kiwis was never offended and so as the tongans... this is how a challenge is accepted and if you cross over their boundary than you must face consequences, the other team will react to you!!..... it is common in the Pacific, it happen in the High School rugby field too, the challenges!!!

The biggest dude on the field Nelson Asofa-Solomona for NZ who went right up touching faces is a Melbourne Storm Star and my favorite player 6'7" 130kg and he believes in freedom of choice with what we put in our bodies!
