Auckland used to be the capital at one stage back in da day, but to be more centralized it was move to Wellington. You algud you gave it a go. Auckland is the Largest city though. Love how you Rep Aotearoa New Zealand!!!

New Zealand was named after dutch explorer abel tasman landed there in 1642 zeeland means sea land in dutch and there was a province named zeeland in holland. Captain James Cook landed in NZ in 1769 and claimed it for Britain he anglicised the name to New Zealand. The Maori were the first people to land in NZ in the late 13th century naming it Aotearoa which translates to land of the long white cloud.offical languages are maori, english and deaf sign language.There was a vote on a changing the flag in 2016 and majority voted to keep it. Wellington is capital because it was in the middle of the country, safe harbour and geographical suitability.

As a kiwi (a New Zealander) you know the basics but not the things in nz also the capital is Wellington even tho auckland has 1/5 of the population of the whole country. We are the first country in the world to see sunlight I’m a day ahead of most people, Gisborne is the first place ever to see sunlight which is in New Zealand😅 I am very proud to live in aotearoa New Zealand. New Zealand is the name the british officially gave it when we signed the treaty of waitangi and were colonized, but the original name given by the maori is
"Aoetearoa" pronounced ow - te - ah - row - ah
which translates to "land of the long white cloud" because when maori first discovered NZ all they saw was a giant white cloud that spanned as far as they could see across the land so they named it accordingly.

First capital of NZ was Russell and then Auckland before they moved it to Wellington. Reason being that in the old days, it'll take politicians about a month of travel to get to meetings in Russell and 2 weeks to get to Auckland from the bottom of the south island. So dead bang in the middle seem perfect for everyone is my understanding from school lol.
To be fair, Auckland was the capital from 1840-1865. The reason Wellington was chosen for the capital was because its central location, and that if the capital remained in Auckland there was fears that the south island would break away and become its own colony.

English Maori is the Native language. Wellington does have a airport but flights from over seas go to Auckland and then they can fly around New Zealand or take a bus or train around the north island. Then if you are in Wellington there is a ferry boat the Blue Bridge that you can get on to go to the South Island.
